Stance Super Sports Coilover Noises

So I just installed my Stance Coilovers the other day and the ride is pretty good and the install went fairly easy. I used ill rollers install write up and set everything close to the same as his. Next day driving it I'm hearing little clunks from the rear and front (more so on the passenger side). Barely noticable and only at lower speeds and over rough roads/parking lots. Took the wheels off and checked all the bolts and everything was tight on all corners. Figured it was noisy pillow balls and kept driving. Flash forward a few more days and now I'm getting a pretty loud clunk from the right front when ever I come to a stop. Any idea what these noises might be before I jack it up and inspect? I've used coils before so this isnt the first time having a set up like this but the first time I had noises like this. One other thing, when I turn the wheel left or right while the car is going very slow or sitting there I get a small pop sound right before it goes full lock. Maybe coilbind? Any help on these noises is appreciated!

More spring preload. You should BARELY be able to spin the spring on the perch when the car is lifted off the ground. Raise the perches up to get more spring preload. Then drive around. Should be gone after that

Thanks! Checked the front and found a lock ring loose on the front which was causing the noise from stopping hard. Added more pre load and adjusted the dampinging and now its way better.

UPDATE: Added correct amount of preload to all four corners and was still getting noise from right front and a little from the left front. Turns out the adjustable sway bar links were junk. Cut the stock links and welded them, now NO NOISES.

I have a set of Stance SS Coilovers that I have yet to install. What was the issue with the adjustable end links?

TylerLieberman 07-21-2013 07:03 PM

I'm still using stock endlinks on mine. Not changing until I upgrade sway bars.

I have zero issues at all

I just installed mine yesterday. What settings are you running for rebound? Ive tried everything but I still can't seem to find a good soft ride.

Full stiff rear. 4 from full stiff front.

It's not soft at all. It isn't terrible for the streets though and it works extremely well on the track. When it comes to street ride quality on coilovers, KWs are the better choice.

I didn't care though and Stance products work very well so I went with them.

How do you know which one is for the rear and which is for the front?

They look completely different from each other. You'll know when you look at them.

Sorry for digging this thread from the grave but I installed my Stance SS coils about 2-3 weeks ago. I am experiencing the same noises from the front.

I used the endlinks they provided since they were longer but someone here said the Stance endlinks were crap? I'm just curious on how/what made them so bad and should I purchase new ones such as the Whitelines or Hotchkis?

I still have to try to add more spring preload because I can move the springs fairly easily and I also sprayed WD40 on the pillow bearings. Is WD-40 bad? I heard to grease them but I didn't know exactly what grease to get.

I installed mine a few weeks ago too and had a lot of noise.

Here's how I fixed MOST of the noise.

Check the top nut on the front coilovers, it's a 22mm.

Check the top nut on the rears, I think it's a 17mm.

Make sure your preload is set correctly.

Make sure all of your collars are locked tight.

Check all the mounting bolts.

Check your camber plates! The bolts on mine were loose and for a day or so it seems that I had a variable alignment. lol

If you are still getting noises, then it's probably your front sway bar and endlinks.

I am having interference issues with my Whiteline links and the LCA. The links could be binding or interfering with the LCAs.

( I broke a Stance one and had to order a new set. No it did not break from being on the car. Long story.)

The noises I have now are related only to the swaybar and endlinks. No unusual noise from the actual coilovers.

although im running BC Extreme Lows, i was also getting noises from the swaybar links.

You have any issues with you endinks hitting the lower control arm? How'd you fix it? Teach me your sorcery!!! Lol

Not that i know of , if anything i had issues the the upper end link hitting the wheel well from too much negative camber.

I experienced the same problems with my stances on my evo. They are pretty good coilovers and i am happy. but my first couple days i had the same noise problems. It was adjusting the preload that helped a lot.

KW's are known to be very soft. I prefer Stance setup for realistic track use and occasional daily driving.

Prooks 09-26-2013 01:55 PM

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm gonna try adjust the preload tomorrow because top hats and collars are all tight. One collar was loose and that explains some of the noise but I think most of it is because of the preload.

Had my stance coilovers and stance LCA installed by @SpeedElement last week, no noises so far (dunno how long that will last, I assume eventually they will make noises)

hey man, met you at dublin meet once.
i bought myself a stance coilovers and I do get the clunking/knocking noise

how much did you pay for labor?

brianlo622 10-29-2013 07:25 PM

Yo, SE charged me $200 for the install :)

if yours are already installed and making noises, I would assume an alignment place can take a look while you are getting an alignment.

From my research, the most common issues with noises are:

1.) preload
2.) endlink length/sway bar

Hope that helps!

I had the same problem. but I fixed it by putting the washers that stance provided on each side on top of the endlinks that is connecting to the coilovers. No noise after that.
