1989 Turbo Trans Am
So my brother is a huge f-body enthusiast and just purchased his dream car... A 1989 turbo trans am. Kinda excited to get a peek at it and score some pics with the frs. He picks it up next week.
TTA Just a thread on the meguiars forum about a TTA meguiar's Not your typical dream car, but still rare and beautiful (imo). |
Cool cars w/ the Grand National V6.
Tell him to enjoy! |

The TTA, and GN(and GNX) were amazing sleepers for sure. It blows my mind the range of 0-60 times you'll find on the 89 TTA. Magazines are all over the place with it from mid 4s to low 6s. Regardless, those numbers in 1989 are just mind boggling -- especially considering the price new at the time. While not cheap(around 25k before adjusting for inflation i think?), it was one of the fastest cars produced that year.

off topic but a black Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has been my dream car since childhood....:w00t:

Shame about those automatics, i thought they sold more standards then autos?

Awesome! That's history right there. I used to own a '88 Chevy IROC Z. Loved doing donuts with the thing in parking lots all over SoCal. The T-tops would leak when it would rain and I could hold my breath longer than the fuel tank would stay full (can you say gas guzzler?), but loved the thing. :w00t:

Oh man nice car! Do you have any pics?
These are on my "own before you die" list, but they're getting harder to find for a decent price and in decent condition. |
I wanted one since K.I.I.T.

I swear they sucked power out of those 4th gen firebirds, which has a pretty good chassis and engine. |
You guys are right. Only autos on the turbos and 350's. The 305 could be had with a 5 speed. I had a 305 stick shift GTA back then. Fantastic auto cross car and pretty fun on the track, if underpowered. The turbos were rediculously fast for back then. I remember instructing at an auto cross after I switched to an LT1 Vette. A student asked me to drive his turbo TA and it was quicker in a straight line.
Gotta say, though, my TA was a total piece of crap. It was always at the dealership for something, and always a new thing every time. Needed a tow a couple times, power everything failed, engine drank coolant and on and on got tired of the crap after a little over a year and switched to Vettes. Same company but way better quality, at least on my specific cars. |

Took awhile, but I finally got around to detailing my brother's TTA. Unfortunately it looked like rain was coming (it didn't), so I only got 3 quick and uncool pics of my FRS and the TTA together. I think it came out great and it was awesome detailing such a rare car.

I love the TTAs...the '89s anyway. The earlier (around 1980 or so) TTAs were junk. The carb'd 301/4.9L in those cars couldn't get out of its own way, lol. Congrats to your brother...that's one of my dream cars as well. On looks alone, I've always preferred the look of the Formula Firebird over the Trans Am or GTA...all the good stuff with 1/2 the plastic.
