In-N-Out Burger vs. Five Guys?
Been to Five Guys for the first time the other day. From my experience with In-N-Out, I would say they have the better burgers and Five Guys has the better fries. What do you guys think?
|
in-n-out is quality but fries never were their strong point. they're freshly cut but they're so thin they taste more like potato chips. five guys, sonic, and all these out-of-staters need to get the heck out of california lol
|
Said goodbye to fast food a long time ago.
Unless its a spicy chicken sandwich from Wendy's. |
I agree with Cyde. In-n-out's fries taste like potato chips. Five guys is too expensive for me and the meat tastes eh... But I like their Cajun fries.
In n out burgers don't make me feel like I should commit seppeku from eating terrible. lol |
I dunno I kinda like Five guys because you can wait for the burgers by eating the peanut they have for you at the waiting area. But I like in and out because it's all the way out west where I can't get it LOL.... I like FIve Guys Hot Dogs too :D
|
^ Yeah I forgot about the free peanuts. It is a nice touch.
|
Five Guys for me. I know why In N Out is named what it is...
|
Only been to In and Out twice and it wasn't bad but did not live up to the hype
there a five guys in bc and its in the area I work so I've been there a couple times pretty decent burger and little known fact they are Obamas fav place lol Tho I've been told I need to learn how to order off the secret menu of In and out whatever that means |
Yea In N Out doesn't make good fries because they're too fresh! :bellyroll: Seriously, when you have frozen ones, the surface gets cooked differently.
But glad to hear you tried the California classic (in n out). |

Five Guys is ridiculously expensive. In my opinion, you don't get what you pay for. It wasn't fast food either; I waited forever. In the end, I didn't really enjoy the meal that much. I could go to Chili's or TGIF's and get a better burger for around the same price.
In-N-Out is fast food - at least at the location nearest to me. A nice alternative to Wendy's or Jack in the Box, but no longer the awesome burger you just gotta have. I think Burger King has better fries now. In-N-Out's burgers are decent, but not really any better than other fast food joints, just different. I'd rather go to Fatburger or, locally, The Chuckbox. As for the original match of Five Guys vs. In-N-Out? I'm going In-N-Out, because when I'm eating, I don't want to feel like I just got raped, and that's how I felt eating at Five Guys. |

I used to be all about In N Out 3x3 Animal Style but haven't been there in years. In n Out is popular b/c for the younger crowd who don't have much but want a meal customized! It's all about that secret menu!
I heard about 5 guys and not worth the drive to the only 2 in San Diego. To me, In n Out fries are only good when you order them "well done" so they are crispier. Order a neapolitan shake and dip the fries in there... money!! |
im all about in n out...i actually like there fries but it is true they do taste like potato chips...but five guys has some niiiiice fries and burgers are okay....i rather have in n out burgers with five guys fries lol and of course the free peanuts lol
|
Five Guys only because there isn't In-N-Out where I live.
|
5 guys all the way since we don't have In-N-Out here :(
|
.... I hate to admit it but I've never had a Five Guy Burger... I've always had their hot dog ....
|
Five Guys Burgers no doubt! In & Out is tasteless and bland.
|
in n out is good but 5 guys has bacon
|
Before moving to the States last autumn I did not know of either, but after trying them both a few times since, definitely 5 Guys. I can only manage a Jr. Bacon Burger with fries, that is more than enough for me in one sitting.
|
In N Out doesn't have much variety admittedly, but it's a sort of classic that at the same time is a bit different. I like their portions, and I haven't gotten sick of it yet. We'll see how that goes though lol.
|
In n Out...but I do enjoy a 5 guys burger every now and then
|
Is it even fair to compare In N Out to Five guys?
I see Five Guys http://tdhurst.com/wp-content/upload.../Five-guys.jpg and for the price of Five Guys ($6), something like Rocky's would be a better match. http://aht.seriouseats.com/images/20...kys-burger.jpg |
Well, I think I can speak to this subject with some authority since I grew up in Cali' but was living on the East Coast when 5 Guys started. To start off, my heart will always have a place for In N Out just because I have so many memories (especially from my college days in L.A.) going to In N Out. With that being said, I do believe 5 Guys has the edge on the quality of food. The big drawback to 5 Guys is the price. I can get a double double with fries and a drink for a little over $6 where at 5 Guys that would cost me $10+. Not sure if that price difference makes 5 Guys worth it, especially as someone else mentioned that for those kind of prices you could eat at a sit down restaurant and get a better meal for the same price and even have a beer while doing so. :happy0180:

I'm from Miami, and I don't know what any of these places are..
Our most popular chains are.... Pollo Tropical Latin America La Carreta and some more I don't remember @ Pollo Tropical we get this for ~6 bucks maybe less http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_vvMawdRNe...en_medium.jpeg @ La Carreta is like a Cuban Denny's/Chilies/Applebee's http://j.cdn.yipit.com/cache/deal/50...play_image.jpg etc too many pics |
This thread is going to make me get some Five Guys burger. Mmmmmm
It does seem like my friends & family from the west coast prefer In & Out over Five Guys. The taste buds have a different preference I suppose. Not saying In & Out is bad, I just don't taste anything when I have it. |

That's the thing with InO, they don't need to spread across the US, keep it exclusive, keep it West Coast. One thing's for sure is that given we have so much diversity here, there is so much more to eat where In N Out become more of the "whats open and I only have 4 bucks... Jack n Crack or In N Out!?!" But if you're from SoCal, you'll know Carne Asada fries is the business for under 10 bucks!! http://s3-media2.ak.yelpcdn.com/bpho...PGRWRYJA/l.jpg |

The carne asada around CA is arrachera (flank meat) which is marinated in agave tequila, salt, black pepper, fresh lime, pepper flakes. The carne asada and adobada tacos are so good that even asian people like it!! I google'd Tacos el Gordo and found this funny pic! http://sillylynnie.files.wordpress.c...4/img_0334.jpg |

Mmmm...carne asada...

lol, I just had some In N Out! Got a double double w/extra veggie, and a protein style hamburger...extra veggies. I felt like a rabbit munching at that second one...
|
In n out >>>>>>>>>>
Had five guys once. It was decent but overpriced. |

I have regularly wrestled grizzly bears, de-antlered moose, and clubbed baby seals in my yoof ;) Actually there is a great burger place in Quebec City - where I lived for a couple years - called Chez Victor. They were awesome 'gourmet burgers' and they had cheapish pints of Boreale to go with it! Regardless of the decent quality of places like 5 guys and In/Out they still have the meh taint of fast food to me, so I don't go all out... save room for more pints afterwards that way too :) http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2274/2...63c8d9cda8.jpg Burger méditéranéen chez Victor by Mlauz ::, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/mlauz/2512988833/ |
I've only ever eaten at Five Guys twice. It's way too greasy for my tastes.
In-n-Out wins on the quality of their veggies (and the free chili peppers). But really, my preferred guilty pleasure is Mexican food from the local 24/7 taco stand. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7165/6...08ab71da09.jpg |
Wait, what free chili peppers?
It's been quite a while since I've gotten Mexican, but this Mexican place near my high school was rather good. |

No In N Out's in New York :(, but Five Guys is pretty Godlike.
But you know what beats both? 53rd and 6th Halal in New York City http://farm1.static.flickr.com/178/4...86893306_b.jpg |
