difference between Ark exhausts

Can anyone tell me the difference between the ark dt-s and ark grip exhaust sytems for the brz? looking at purchasing one but cant tell the difference other than 4 more horsepower in the dt-s. they also both cost the same.

Mild2Wild 07-07-2013 04:27 PM

The design of the resonators is different between the two. The Grip is supposed to be generally a bit quieter than the Dt-S

jdmblood 07-07-2013 04:31 PM

is that the only difference?

UnOvertime 07-07-2013 04:57 PM

Yes the GRiP is quieter than the DT-S.

jdmblood 07-07-2013 05:09 PM

ok thank you guys for the quick response. gonna go with the dts system then.

do yourself a favor and get the test pipe too. trust me.

Mild2Wild 07-07-2013 07:39 PM

I like the tone of my Grip system much more with the test pipe; I certainly agree with the above.

ARK GRiP + Test Pipe = Sex to my ears

Absolutely agree. I can't get over how nice it sounds.

Propaganda 07-07-2013 10:54 PM

heres a video of my friends FRS with the ARK DT-S exhaust with the ARK test pipe as well.

a little comparison for you guys

Kevin at ARK was also good at explaining this when my friend purchased his exhaust. Tell him Brian sent you!

RT87 07-09-2013 06:10 PM

Just to let you guys know, I messaged Ark on facebook about 2 weeks ago asking if they were developing a header and they said they were, but no ETA as of yet.

jdmblood 07-09-2013 07:05 PM

the price went up on the exhaust 300 bucks over night...

I know a vendor selling it for 999.99!

Here's a picture of the GRIP with some info:

All depends on personal preference, but we do get more GRIP orders than DT-S at the moment. GRIP with a test pipe is indeed one of the best sounds I've heard in a long while from this car, I'd go that route if I had to choose for you. Let me know if I can help!

Propaganda 07-09-2013 08:30 PM

After hearing the dts with test pipe, I still like the grip more... But what can I say, I'm biased :D

And I'm curious about the header, especially if it will be catted or not

jdmblood 07-09-2013 10:06 PM

is there a difference in power between the two?

Propaganda 07-09-2013 10:20 PM

Barely... But the small amount it is, is pretty much negligible (unless you're in a 90s miata, where every pound and horsepower makes a larger difference because it's such a light car)

IIRC, the dts makes a little more, but it's only like 2-3, if that?

deedz 07-09-2013 11:05 PM

by far my favorite exhaust I have owned for this car

i'm in close contact with lerry about this. i keep bugging him about it. they are working on the m3 stuff first.

TheSlickOne17 07-10-2013 04:02 AM

I have the grip and borla UEL with stock everything else. I'm heading up to ARK headquarters sometime within the next few weeks to shoot there videos for show casing...

Trust people and myself when we say ARK is one of the best design and sounding exhaust systems for our frs/brz... The "helmholtz" resonators truely are a blessing

crazyprac 07-10-2013 05:16 AM

So its true that with the test pipe u have to cut to make it fit?

Mild2Wild 07-10-2013 08:35 AM

Yes unfortunately. Had to cut up the shield underneath quite a bit to fit the test pipe, but I did leave the hole to line up the fastener.

Propaganda 07-10-2013 10:16 AM

How much did you cut? I only had to cut off a small portion near the resonantor for it to fit.

Oh awesome. I didn't ask any further than that. Do you know whether the header is EL or UEL? And if they're also making a catted front pipe? I'd like to go with a full ark system but keep one cat if possible.

there are no definiteness, but i can say that it should be EL and it may be non catted. again this is nothing to quote my by and just couple things i've heard here and there, but no set in stone death star plans. i did mention an over pipe and i hope they make one as well. i'd like a full ark exhaust system if possible. my BIG issue now is the fitment of the header with my koyo radiator and vortech .

chuchutrain 07-11-2013 10:20 AM

theres A LOT of piping... how much do these weigh?

Ah thanks. I'm hoping for UEL to keep the boxer rumble, it just sounds meaner.

We have 1 DTS and 4 Grip Exhausts left-$999 a piece shipped.

xxscaxx 07-11-2013 01:09 PM

I love my DT-S but still wish I picked up the grip.

I wanted to go with their test pipe but i'm already eliminating the cat out of the header and I don't want a raspy loud car lol.

Not that much in comparison to the total area, but probably about 12 sq in or so. Just enough so the the pipe to the Helmholtz resonator would fit.

mikemcberty 07-12-2013 03:34 PM

I run the DTS-Test Pipe setup and love it.
