MR2 winter progress

this winter i decided to get some major work done on the MR2. :happyanim: i can't wait to autocross it again and run it at the local road course. here's the brief list of items:

full urethane suspension bushing kit
aeromotive stealth 340 fuel pump
retuned for E85 on 18psi
front and rear strut tower braces
KW V3 coilovers w/ Tein camber plates (on order)
93 MR2 turbo front and rear brakes with carbotech XP8 pads all around (on order)

i might need to put a larger master cylinder on after the brakes, but i'll see how they feel. i'll get it on a dyno fairly soon to get some numbers, but i don't expect the power to be much more than 250whp, *maybe* 260whp, with a bit more torque.

oh, and i'll get some pictures up soon. :)

Sounding sick Mike, can't wait to see it!

bambbrose 03-09-2012 09:21 AM

t-top, hardtop? I had a 91 hardtop that I loved. It was a great car.

ZetaVI 03-09-2012 11:08 AM

I love MR2's. I can't wait to see some pics.

Bad ass as a former SW20 owner I wish I still had mine

SkullWorks 03-09-2012 05:59 PM

I see your sig sys High Compression, and you say E85 so why only 260WHP? What turbo are you using?

My SR20DET is apart on my bench becoming a SR20VET im raising the comp from 9:1 to 10.4:1 and running E85 this time around, power before was 341WHP (dyno jet SAE correction No driveline compensation) at 19PSI at 6K where it hit boost cut (it gets a V-band housing and a proper wastegate this time) I'm expecting no less that 400WHP on a GT2868 (FP compressor wheel on a gt28RS hot side & CHRA)

right now i'm on a ceramic CT26. the compressor can flow more, but the turbine is very restrictive, hence the low numbers. most people struggle to get 230whp out of a CT26, so for that turbo, i'm not doing too bad. at some point i plan on upgrading to a GT3076 or maybe one of the new Borg Warner EFR turbos.

i'm also on stock cams, so there's definitely some room to improve VE at higher engine speeds (actually probably at all engine speeds, haha).

waiting for the camber plates...

ZetaVI 03-18-2012 06:20 PM

Those are nice. Updates w/ pics when there is more.

NESW20 03-19-2012 06:38 PM

found out what's taking so long with the camber plates. they shipped them from one of their locations to another one of their locations. should be shipped to me today, and hopefully i'll see them on wednesday to do the install. then alignment friday or saturday, and autocross on sunday. :D

More MR2 goodness please. :coolpics:

NESW20.

That is a gorgeous t-top.

MiguelAE86 03-24-2012 09:42 PM

This may be my next car until i wait for a used BRZ/FR-S ! I'm currently 17, do you recommend? Anyone? Suggestions? Alternatives?

done and done.

after a fresh wash & wax:

full tank of E85 (also after that fresh wax):

i also flushed out my brake fluid, since it's been way too long since i've done that maintenance task. i'll be swapping to 93 Turbo brakes sometime soon, once i order the carbotech pads, but figure i'll do an autocross or two and maybe a track day on the current setup. might also need a larger-bore master cylinder when i do the brake swap.

i honestly don't recommend a turbo for a 17 year old. however, i will fully 100% endorse you getting an n/a. take it to your local autocross and learn how to drive a mid-engine car in a safe environment. learn what you need to do to maintain the vehicle (5SFE doesn't take much, good place to start).

get on www.mr2oc.com and browse around. there is a TON of information on there. check out the classifieds section, too. good luck, and let us know if you end up with one. :)

ZetaVI 03-25-2012 04:16 PM

The red is pretty gorgeous.

speed-wiz 03-25-2012 05:07 PM

Some very nice MR2s!!

Lost 03-25-2012 05:29 PM

Very cool!

NESW20 03-25-2012 10:44 PM

had a local autocross today. i'll post some pictures when they're available, but basically i'm INCREDIBLY PLEASED with the new suspension setup and extra torque from the E85 tune (and the increase in boost pressure it allows). the car is super balanced and stable, very controllable and easy to rotate with throttle and/or trail braking.

with my 205 front and 225 rear Toyo T1Rs i was way under-tired today, but it made it fun dancing with the car. i had to be extremely gentle with the throttle and careful with the brakes, which just made it that much more fun. i made an impression on a few people, who commented that the car looked quick, and very fun to watch. :burnrubber:

dyno'd it today. pretty impressed for being on a plain-jane CT26. the torque is fun...

suprachica79 03-29-2012 08:36 AM

That is one beautiful dyno chart Mike!

NESW20 03-29-2012 11:29 PM

thanks! thought you might like it, haha. i'm really happy with my tuner. that curve was 100% street tuned so far. :) it makes the car super fun to drive on the street. can't wait to get it out on the road course!

SkullWorks 03-30-2012 12:01 AM

Very nice looking Graph, that is an incredible torque curve for a 4 cylinder

taken at the autocross last sunday by Aaron J Photography. once i order brake pads for the 93Turbo brakes it'll be ready for the road course.

ZetaVI 04-01-2012 12:53 PM

Nice photos doing autocross. Keep it up!

NESW20 04-06-2012 12:10 AM

thanks! i'm going to autocross it as much as possible this year. i'll be ordering brake pads for my larger brakes once i return from my travels, and then it'll be ready to go to putnam park, just outside of indy.

[u2b]SbsThp6QzvM[/u2b]

this is not me or my car, just an example of the track. i believe i should be able to hit 120mph on the front straight...

Bristecom 04-06-2012 12:18 AM

That's a beautiful car. My uncle used to have one. The only thing I don't like about them (and the Porsche Boxsters) is that they have MacPherson strut suspension all the way round. :/

NESW20 04-06-2012 12:29 AM

thanks! ideally it would have a more advanced suspension setup, but it works well enough. come out to the next autocross/track day and come for a ride! :)

Thanks, I may do that. I've never been to Putnam Park. I'd like to go with my Eclipse but I don't really trust it for racing reliability-wise. Maybe after I get an FR-S I can risk tracking it a few times.

NESW20 04-06-2012 09:16 PM

1" bore master cylinder acquired

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25...-01-48_865.jpg

my 91n/a master cylinder has a bore size of 7/8". the 93T master cylinder is 15/16". this should provide a nice, firm pedal once i swap the 93T brakes onto the car.

membersonly 03-13-2013 10:22 PM

Any updates?! :)

I'm thinking about getting the KW's for my mr2. Would like some feedback please!

Turbowned 03-19-2013 04:26 PM

Nice MR2, nice numbers for CT26, too! Is that exhaust an A'PEXi GT Spec by any chance? Looks like the one I had on my '94T... never shoulda sold my SW20 :(

nothing really new lately. had a busy winter and unfortunately an expensive one, so no new parts for the 2. i'll likely do a cooling system refresh soon, and get it back out on track. the KW's are excellent, and for the price, i think they're extremely hard to beat!

thanks. :) it's actually the apexi N1, but it's similar enough, i don't think i'll upgrade to the gt spec. selling an MR2 (especially a 94T) is always a regrettable decision. :(
