For those obsessed with shedding weight from car....

Whats your % of body fat? I see some people going to crazy extremes to drop a pound from the car's weight, isnt it easier to just diet then to gut your car?

Mr.Jay 07-05-2013 05:17 PM

Easier yes. Harder to maintain yes. Requires more work yes.

But I do agree ezpecially when the part is like a 2 pound savings

DownFracture 07-05-2013 05:18 PM

I bet a bunch of people could get a good 5 whp bump from a diet alone;)

Beyer Subaru 07-05-2013 05:19 PM

Depends on your size and weight. If I lost much more weight I'd prolly die.

thill 07-05-2013 05:19 PM

Lol, I was thinking this exact same thing the other day.. I could stand to lose 10lbs myself..

Samesies.

ntron1 07-05-2013 06:32 PM

You could donate a Kidney and Lung to shed a pound or 2... Of course if you drive a slush box you could give up one leg...

asia_minor 07-05-2013 06:39 PM

i'm skinny enough as is. more diet? LOL

xclusive_brett 07-05-2013 06:43 PM

is being fat kinda like form>function? lol

The359 07-05-2013 06:56 PM

I weigh under 150lbs. I'm not worried.

Mango22 07-05-2013 07:06 PM

For me to lose 19 pounds I would have to join a gym and pay $30 monthly and it would take about 6 months to possibly reach that goal, then I would have to go back to the gym to maintain my weight loss...ugh. I'd rather just replace my battery with one of this mini batteries and drop the 19lbs in one quick purchase.
I'll rather keep eating my Five Guys burgers, just nooooo fries.
I usually eat pretty healthy but once in a while I gotta pig out on some junk food.
As for a gym, I just can't do it. It goes against everything I believe in. I have two mountain bikes and a lake right by my home with several single track trails which makes more sense to me than running in place on a treadmill. Gyms are good for people but I just can't enjoy going to them.

radroach 07-05-2013 07:10 PM

I've got to cut milkshakes, cokes, and smoothie king and drink mostly water and I'll lose quite a bit of weight on my tires.

Mango22 07-05-2013 07:15 PM

Yeah, best to stay away from anything with high fructose corn syrup. That stuff will literally jack up your body. Water and green juices are best.

And yes the burgers are just as bad since the cows pretty much only eat GMO corn.

I can't fully understand where this is coming from. I don't think 86 enthusiasts are that hardcore about weight loss at all. We'll do simple things like remove the spare tire and tools or replace the battery but it's not much beyond that in regards to sprung weight.

Wake me up when people start removing badges strictly for weight loss purposes.

wrxgoose 07-05-2013 08:28 PM

if I cut out coke completely, as well as other unhealthy stuffs, I could probably lose 50lbs. well, if I exercised as well.

Mr. 07-05-2013 08:58 PM

Got the same issue bro, I was 120 at this height before i started lifting, got all the way up to 160 at one point but if i dont keep at it, i just shed weight #skinnypplproblems

Kayzer Soze 07-05-2013 10:52 PM

ya, if your a buck 20, better getting rid of your carpets instead of dieting.....question was more for those with 20% or more body fat that im sure go to extremes to shed car weight.

This isn't an either-or thing.

Personally, I've always had a tough time keeping my weight down. I'm a naturally big guy with a big appetite. But I recently started the Weight Watchers Online thing with the smartphone apps. It works really well and I don't feel like I'm stuck eating crap all the time. And the gamer in me likes the points system as a kind of mini-game for my life. :D

I highly recommend it.

Steve 07-05-2013 11:08 PM

i don't wear clothes when i drive to save weight

I have a friend who is a little over 300lbs and I got in his car and the cup holders were gone. When I asked why he said weight reduction and then asked where the nearest taco bell was...

Sent from my Q10

This. A couple of years ago when I was autocrossing my Miata, I lost 50 lbs in under a year, and got a little more than that out of my Miata, getting it down to just a few pounds over 2k lbs. Ten years ago I got really serious about weight reduction on my Neon, taking it from a curb weight of 2500 lbs, down to a race weight of 1986 lbs. Nothing terribly serious planned for my BRZ, but I have installed wheels that are 5-6 lbs each lighter than stock, and a muffler delete which saves 23 lbs.

Steve 07-06-2013 06:58 PM

remember guyz. muscle weighs more than fat.

thientai 07-07-2013 03:08 PM

Mine says I'm 4%... 5'7 105 pounds LOL teach me how to gain weight pls

BRZPDX 07-07-2013 03:16 PM

eating less, drinking water and running out side is free.

There is also a metal cover on the right side of the engine bay that is supposed to help the "cricket" noises down, which weighs about 5lbs. Rear seat delete that my friend did, I think got about 40lbs?

I say you can do about a 100lbs weight reduction on the car/own body with out sacrificing a lot.

bkblitzed 07-07-2013 11:23 PM

always remember, take a poop before racing!

enwave 07-08-2013 01:33 AM

6'1" 145 here... was trying to gain a little mass before I get married in a month, but this thread convinced me out of it.

I nearly spit my drink out when I read this.

And it was water, and not a high calorie soda....

I use to weight probably 5 pounds more then you, one year i decide i gotta fix my body and started working out... Now i am up 30 pounds and my bmi is in a decent range. If you are serious you gotta lift and lift heavy and drink tons of protein and try supplements from test boosters to pre/post workout, vitamins and whatever else you can afford/find. Most important are working out and lots of food, lots of protein a day. Buy a gym pass and a tub of whey protein, go 3x a week, more is not often better as you need time to repair and eat. Sleep at least 8 hours a day and try and increase your quality of sleep as better sleep equals more gh release. They say you should eat 1-1.5 grams of protien for each pound you weight or want to get to, so if you want to get to 140 you should be getting at least 140 grams of protein a day, 140 grams of protein is harWd to get to through real food so supplement with whey protien. If you tracked your protien a day i bet your not eating that much which is why your body cant hold more muscle mass, that and lack of muscle stimulation. Oh when i say lift heavy, that means for you... Proper form and 4-8 range for reps. Go youtube and watch how to do excercises with proper form and how to use machines. Anyways gl i have to battle my skinny asian genes and that sucks lol.

Anthony 07-08-2013 07:48 AM

Fat Lotus owners are the best.

I can't wait to get my 86 just so I can be the guy that debadges for weight savings. Except carbon fiber parts don't come with badges anyway, but still.

I'm a skinny guy and keep my head shaved. I guess I'm not really using these eyebrows though...

nalc 07-08-2013 08:25 AM

I like seeing the people who just throw money at aftermarket parts without even thinking about weight.

"Oh, there are gas-filled hood struts that makes it so I don't need to spend 0.7 seconds propping the hood up? Oh, you're making a strut tower brace, even though the car has one from the factory, and you're not doing any scientific testing to show that it actually even does anything besides increasing weight (forward and high, I might add)? Shut up and take my money!"

Half the time, weight reduction is centered around ricing out the car. "Oh, I'm going to delete my muffler, that's 6 pounds, it will almost make up for my JDM weighted shift knob".
