Charge the batt or get a jump, or push start if its manual?

dirtbike250x 07-04-2013 11:08 AM

Not to change the subject of the thread, since I think the given question was answered, but I think opening the door to the car when the battery is dead would be even more of a problem. Go in through the trunk to pop the hood to get a jump?

Tromatic 07-04-2013 12:33 PM

I wonder how much less the car would be if it did not include that thick owners manual.

There was a time when car trunks would only open with a key, and we had to roll the windows down with this handle that rotated.

The driver side door has a keyhole to open it up manually with the key.
Not sure if you can still open up the trunk with the push button though when the battery is dead however.

But the trunk also has a keyhole underneath the trunk lip next to license plate.

Haha yeah, not that there is anything wrong with it. It just makes me feel old. I work in the local school system, and a kid brought his laptop up to me with a question. He had microsoft word open and wanted to know what the square next to the save button was. It was the little floppy disk image. Then I had to explain what it was.

:sigh: Just put me in a home with a dial-up modem and cheers reruns.

velin86 07-04-2013 01:57 PM

This thread makes me sad...I can't believe this question had to be asked.

Hahah well I'm 26 for a few more days and I know all these things.. So don't feel too old! Just be concerned that it won't be long before these kids are your coworkers...

They'll learn in a hurry in 5 years when their car is a shit box because they didn't take care of it!

5th 86 07-04-2013 05:53 PM

Get a buddy to start pushing your car down the road, then start turning the key or push on the start button... Hmm someone said it should work lol

I'm glad this site is full of helpful members who can answer a question and leave it go rather than each taking a shot at putting others down.

Guys I think what he meant was since the car has a dead battery the keyless entry system is not working which means he can't open the hood because the release is inside the car. So, the trunk trick will do this for you OP.

eh, we weren't all born with all the knowledge of the Cosmos already embedded in our brains. I'll bet someone, some where once had to explain something to you that you didn't know before. Something they may have even thought was pretty obvious.

I'll admit I knew about the keyhole only because the interior button was pressed and the release didn't work. That was the day I bought the car (though I did look it up in the manual). Three months later I had completely forgotten about it and spent a good five minutes hunting after the dumb button got pushed again! :D

NOHOME 07-05-2013 04:20 PM

Got to admit that the location of the key had me looking for a bit when I went looking

I have not actually tried to engage the key in that awkward spot. Looks like it would be more convenient to just get a crow-bar and pry the damn thing open.

The things you can learn about the gear you own while sitting on the shitter and reading the manual are amazing. Perhaps it's the Jarhead in me. I don't care if you fuck it up, but you better know what page of the manual you were supposed to be on when you did.

pcporo 07-06-2013 10:14 PM

Perhaps he can get it towed to the local fire station where they could jaws of life that bitch open. I'm sure they would love it as a training exercise.

Only 17 year old car nuts like myself ;). My friends Honda Hurricane died in the lower school parking lot so all my fellow car friends, one owns an E36 M3, wanted to jump it stupidly not knowing the contacts on the jumper cables won't fit or line up correctly, not to mention we had no clue if it would be dangerous. So I casually suggested push it in neutral then drop it in gear. Most now more than you think.
