Toyota Boshoku Seat Story

Here is a kind of interesting article I found about the development/design of the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ seat by Toyota Boshoku:

Its definately one of the nicest stock sports seat ive seen in awhile (reminds me of Honda's Del Sol bucket seats)..the only things i dislike about it is the headrest and the seatbelt positioning

Heh, love this: "We had to devise a way to ensure the occupant's backside doesn't change shape even when experiencing high G-forces during cornering."

Now to explain to the wife that the 86 is so comfortable 'cos her a$$ doesn't change shape. :-D

I think the last time I was happy about factory seats like these, was sitting in a R34 GT-R.

For entry-level sports car, S15 Silvia comes to mind.

Yeah, it really is good. I still slightly prefer the Recaros from the Lancer Evolution 8/9 but these are some of the best seats overall. I am usually against cloth material but it's actually more of a suede and feels quite nice. The padding is firm but still cushy and comfortable so they got that just right. I also think they are the best looking seats without an integrated headrest. So yeah, they did a great job!

Oh for the love of Gawd, I hope it isn't discovered that these seats will bolt into a Civic. If that happens NOBODY'S CAR IS SAFE!

Just ask any S2000 owner. There's one question you can ask any S2k owner: "So how long did you have it before the seats were stolen?"

Don't worry, I totally 100% honestly just checked and measured it. They do not fit in at all. Not even close. Everyone don't even bother checking... I promise it doesn't fit. In fact, you better tell other people as well to save them some time.

Same here. I love those Recaro's. Also love a lot of other seats, but for a 25k car, the seats are pretty damn good. Much better than the seats in my '12 wrx I had. They look great but they were crap in my opinion.

I was gonna replace the driver seat with a BRIDE/Recaro bucket but the more I sit in it, the less sure I am about doing it.

I used to work for Toyota Boshoku.

Yeah, the Subaru seats have always been bad in my opinion. The Recaros they used in the Spec C looked really nice though. They should have used those for all the STI's.

Wow, in America? I know they have a lot of Japanese plants here in Indiana like Aisin.

YES!!! I was trying so hard to get a set for my WRX, but they were gonna run almost $2,000 per seat. For that, I'd rather just get some Recaro Sportster CS seats

Yes, although I guess they had carbon fiber backings or something. They should have just made a cheaper version like the Evo's had. But seriously, those STI/WRX seats had like a bulge in the middle so you'd roll around when you turned. They were terrible!

Yes, here in America, although I would travel to Japan occasionally. I was out of their corporate office. We worked with all the plants. Anywhere there is a Toyota plant there is a Toyota Boshoku plant within 50 miles of it. Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ontario, Canada.

Nice website, and yes these are GREAT seats.

These are impressive seats, and I think they feel great to drive in. These seats are like a great fitting pair of Levis. It's what makes this car something you put on, rather than something you get in. And they are even better when you re-skin them with leather. ;)
