Bad Hail Damage, loud window; About ready to give up on the FR-S
First it was my car getting keyed, now it has hail damage all over the entire body and will most likely have to be totally re-painted. The driver's side window is also making a horrible creaking noise. I think I'm about over this car and I may just trade it in because I'm not sure how much I want a car that's been completely fucked and will no longer have a drop of OEM paint. It still has less than 10k miles too. I still don't know where to go at this point...but I think my days with the FR-S are going to be over soon.
|
I could see why you are frustrated, but outside of the creaky window, which has a warranty and should be able to get fixed, everything you described could have happened to any vehicle. It sounds more like you need to buy a lucky rabbits foot...
Just stay indoors during a lightning storm.. With your luck you would probably get hit on the way to your car... Sorry man, I hope things improve. |
Bye
|
That really sucks... Hopefully you'll find new light in the car and you'll start to enjoy it again. I'm sure you'll learn to love her again! Give her a chance!
|
Someone keyed your car? No reason I am sure...It continues to sicken me with the damage these cars are taking my envious shitheads. I would be in agreement if the chassis was bent or something from a wreck. Window will be fixed by warrant and insurance should cover hail damage. Keep us posted and never give up!
|
Shit happens. If you would have bought another car, the hail would still have happen. It sux, but you bought the car knowing it will attract attention, good and bad.
|
An act of god, an act of an idiot, and a noisy window (that can be fixed under warranty) are going to make you get rid of the car and take a huge financial hit...I thought I overreact when I'm frustrated
|
I have to say, and I don't mean to support your idea of just giving up on the FR-S, but I'm not sure the FR-S is the best vehicle for Boulder CO at such a high elevation and having less engine power, I would have chosen a WRX or some other turbocharged vehicle for living in the rockies.
|
dude its cursed , get rid of it before it gets rid of you. jk in all seriousness sorry for your troubles i know how you feel shortly after buying mine some lady tried to share the same space i was driving in. long story short all fixed up and now i love my car again
|
The paint job can't be any worse than the factory job.
Seriously I'm starting to hope mine gets all jacked up so I can talk my wife into letting me paint it yellow. |
i think it's time for you to move outta that horrible place and live somewhere else. It's not the car man... it's not the car...
|
On the bright side, its an excuse to get a new paint color since you need paint anyway and be different from everyone else, maybe a more vibrant and lively orange like an Lambo Aventador orange. Well hopefully things work out for you
|
Agree with Wes. Insurance / warranty should cover all this.
Paint is just paint. Where the car shines in the internals and engineering beneath it. Get some body work done, respray it, and enjoy. Sure it might not feel like brand new off the lot, but that will fade. |
You gotta be a man and focus on a solution. Venting on an internet forum and being emotional isn't going to fix things..

The hail thing does kind of worry me... I've driven through and let my cars sit out in many bad hail storms and never once got any damage. But this car seems like it will almost certainly be damaged in a hail storm. :(

I empathize with you OP. I have a '99 ZX-6R, and I loved it, but it got stolen once, and then vandalized on another occasion. Don't get me wrong, initially I loved that bike, but after having someone rip it from my grasp and take it for a joy ride and leave it on the side of the road, and then someone else marring it in a parking lot, it makes me feel sick to my stomach owning it. It's still sitting in my garage, but since i got the FR-S, I haven't ridden it, and it has been sitting on Craigslist.
Maybe people who haven't been as unfortunate as OP can't sympathize. Something within you changes emotionally when people act out with malice towards your belongings, it's just a psychological side-effect, and it's very difficult to cope with for some. The more I rode my bike, the more I learned to enjoy it again, but it was never the same as when I first got it. It's reassuring to rid oneself of the "cursed" vehicle, and have something else, and perhaps a new vehicle will change that string of luck for OP. I hope that this enlightens everyone else as to what goes on when this happens to someone. |

Sorry to hear what happened. I know how frustrating it is when shit happens to your car and it feels singled out and directly targeted -- even if it's an act of god.
Hope you find your resolve and maybe just trade it in for another decent car. I would just try to get all the warranty stuff fixed asap, should be better afterwards. |
I know how OP feelings. My Supra has been hit 3 times (none of them were my fault). I wanted to sale/trade it for something else. But in the end I couldn't do it. I love my car too much. And their insurance paid for the repairs. Shit happens in life, unless you're gonna keep your car locked up and never take it out. Anyways good luck to OP.

One thing with cars, no matter which model it is, they will all get damaged or have issues. When you stop caring about them as if they are some holy relic you can just drive them and just accept its just a giant slab of metal and plastic.
I have never seen so many people overly emotional about a car since the Tiburon. |

These cars will dent long before most others because the metal is quite thin. |

I was so pissed off about the whole situation and lost all interest in the car that I decided not to drive it for a bit over a month and just ride my bike to work instead. Anyways, I got an estimate on the damage today (finally) and it looks like it is going to cost around $2,500 to get fixed. Now insurance will cover all but my $250 deductible, but it still sucks. I just don't quite know what to do with the car. I have absolutely no attachment to the car anymore and I just don't feel like it's mine because of its effed up history. Nonetheless, I will get it fixed because I'm tried of driving around in a dented up 2013 car. That said, I think I'll throw it in the garage for a while and just ride my bike to work/errands as much as possible until I get some passion for it again.
Lame right? I know. |

That's fucked up man about your dents and having to pay bills and stuff, I guess shit happens (vandalism, weather) - don't look at this the wrong way but people are going to judge so get used to it- and possibly make the changes you want to see in your life to be the kind of car owner you want to be.
I've gone through my own personal dillemas and hardships, and peer judgement of owning a brand new BRZ in the city, downtown and even made considerations to trade for another car because I wasn't sure at the time if I was comfortable with long term ownership of the car, I couldn't decide if the car was right for me. I got some advice from someone just to be myself and not get thrown around or put down just by someone else's opinion of my car, so right now I'm making out fine, though I usually park the car almost all day at home, do my business walking around the city neighborhood, and only drive when necessary or at night, early morning when I have the driving spirit. |

Why wasn't it there in the first place?:bonk: No seriously, if you've lost your passion , then do what must be done. But if I was you, fix it up even better than what it was before:party0030: Maybe turbo kit, body kits etc. Good luck |

I'm curious to know what the statistics is for having our cars keyed, like what percentage of our cars have been keyed, which colors get keyed the most, and what kind of area/neighborhood this takes place.
I've parked and all over nyc streets and parking lots and I'm actually somewhat surprised nothings happened to my car yet... *knock on wood* |

HP LOSS = ([elevation in feet] x 0.03 x [HP at sea level]) / 1000 So (5300)x0.03(200)/1000 159x200/1000 31800/1000 = 31.8 hp loss at the wheels meaning I now have 168.2 hp at the crank...thus translating to roughly 15hp at the wheels. SHIT! However, let's not forget about the reduced air pressure and resistance due to said altitude. Well fuck it, I'm bad at life, I'll leave the forum now. |

and as far as the hp decrease because of altitude and elevation,..... well, that applies to any car in that area. It's all in the attitude. Really, if you think about it, its not that bad. So man up, dust yourself off and get back on that horse. |
