brighter fog light bulb for BRZ?
can anyone recommend a brighter fog light bulb for the BRZ that i can just plug it in with minimal work required?
I put yellow overlay on my fog lens and noticed that the stalk light bulb doesn't shine through enough. I need a brighter bulb. thanks |
You're kinda out of luck with the stock housing. If you really want them functional, I'd recommend either upgrading to the Outback foglights which use real headlight bulbs, or Hella 3" aftermarket replacement fogs.

I went with this setup. Nice and bright
Bulbs http://www.ebay.com/itm/Narva-H11-12...item5895eaaf5f Fog assembly I'm using the 2010-2012 Outback fog lights, they have a glass front and use the H11 bulb. Wiring adapter for H11 so they are plug and play..no cutting. http://www.ebay.com/itm/111040380281...84.m1555.l2649 |
I'm surprised that Subaru took so little time to match the color of the fog lights to the other lights. Other other lights are bright white LED's and then we have very red looking (by comparison) 20th century technology for fogs. It's something I've noticed, made a mental note to change, but haven't taken any action.
I'm assuming that there aren't any drop-in LED replacements? |
LED Fog Light Bulb at Diode Dynamics. Just pick up their Stage 2 option and you should be good.

The Stage 2 bulbs are supposed to be much brighter than factory lights. They have a money back guarantee.

Yes, it is plug and play. The only thing that might mess up electrically when using LED bulbs is something called hyper blinking. This occurs when you replace the turn signals without also replacing the relay. Take a look at Diode Dynamics or any other LED light retailers web site on here and you will see installation instructions and videos.
I do not work for Diode Dynamics or am affiliated with them in any way. Just attempting to present you a reasonable cost solution. |
From Diode Dynamics website.
"Please note that LED fog lights are for cosmetic purposes only, and will not project light in the same way that the factory bulbs do. Your car will look great at night, but if you are looking for higher output, we strongly recommend using an HID conversion. These bulbs are made up of a quality plastic connector to slide right into the plug, as well as high durability terminals. A load resistor is embedded to prevent blowing the LEDs from voltage surge, and a diode is implanted to protect the LEDs from reverse polarity." |
I've been looking for a fog light solution as well and have just about decided that I'm just going to pull out the fogs and install brake ducts.

Noooooo, just bought h11 led's for my fogs. But I have stock. They won't fit will they :(??

Check with Kenneth with HID_Powerhouse. I got LED replacements from him. They will color match your HID headlights. If you want WAY brighter, you'll have to replace the fog units with the Outback units and H11 bulbs. Look in the Cosmetic forum under lighting. I believe OPIE did the conversion or has a listing on there with the part numbers needed.

At Diode Dynamics there are, in fact, LED "bulbs" in three brightness levels and several colors (several prices, too). If you want a super bright light that color matches our HID headlights, or a super bright true fog light in yellow, they are all there, ready to drop in. Forgive me for teaching an optical lesson here, but I'm an optician and I can't resist: Fog is made of tiny water droplets which split rays of light into their component colors like a prism. Light from our headlights travels to the vehicle in front of us and gets reflected back through the fog, not in visible rainbows, but split nonetheless by the fog into a less distinct image. Since yellow is right in the middle of our visible spectrum, and our eyes are most attuned to that color (because our Sun is yellow, naturally), yellow light will filter out all the split up rays in other colors and create a more accurate image of that vehicle, although in inaccurate color. You can opt for any bulb color you wish, but that, Virginia, is why for driving in our foggy Southern Highlands, I'm opting for nice super bright yellow fog lights on my BRZ. :eyebulge: |
