my turn with the "curse"

So me and another guy were backing into the same spot. Me from the left, him from the right. I look over and see this happening and stop. Unfortunately the other guy did not see me, and ran into my right rear. Of course this guy was driving a lifted chevy truck, but this was on Ft. lewis, and if you ever been on Ft. lewis, you will understand that it is mandatory to own a lifted truck in most units. So needless to say the military police showed up and said we did NOT have to call them. But what the hell they gave us both citations of "improper backing" and sent us on our way. Now, i am not a police officer or anything of the type, but uhhh.....I was stopped!!! and someone backed into me. I get a ticket...and a smashed frs.....

The "military police" pretty much only has jurisdiction on their particular base whether it be a fort naval base air force base camp etc... but in the military world they are just as much law enforcement as say your local police department. Depending on the situation on hand it can go towards your record i.e. Domestic Violance, drugs etc.. sometimes it takes the help from the local PD. Regarding the traffic violations that occur on military installations they operate on their own set of rules/system/points. You can accumulate points for citations on base just like you would in the "real world" however like i stated on base it's their own system so whatever points you accumulate doesnt really apply towards your civilian drivers license. In other words hypothetically speaking say I accumulate 12 points against my records on XXXX Base. 12 points=no driving on base for 1 year. I can still drive anywhere/everywhere off base just not on base b/c it doesnt really count towards my record. Most that will come out of it is a good ass chewing from your supervisor/1st sergeant/commander/Chain of command depending on how much you F'd up

sorry i do not have a bigger picture, i only had my crappy phone. e46toft86 explains it well. No police agency will no about that, but my first sergeant, commander, everyone else in the army will know. The gas cap still opens, and i have full coverage so i am not too worried. I am taking it to court and fighting the ticket. I am very confident i will get it dropped. I dont really care for the 75 dollar charge, i just want to make sure i get no fault on the insurance claim.

I had a similar issue happen to me years ago when I was driving my Tiburon on MacDill AFB. I was at the shopette and backing up, and someone in an NA Miata was too. I stopped, but he kept going and hit me, bent his fender in.

Neither of us were ticketed for anything; however, somehow I was found at fault by my insurance.

Wo6M 06-28-2013 04:40 PM

Sure you can't just put sine spakel and blue spray paint?

Joking

Report it to your insurance, at worst they are going to do 50/50 liability. mention that you saw him and stopped. This might put you 0% at fault.

thanks for the picture resize. The guy was cool and apologized. And i will make it very clear that i stopped. All i need is 49% fault and its covered.

cjdriiiiift 06-28-2013 07:19 PM

NOPE, 50/50 responsibility. smashed car, 75$ ticket....

cjdriiiiift 06-28-2013 08:32 PM

well if anybody is still paying attention, sudden twist of events. The military police called me and voided the ticket. Also the insurance company of the truck driver called and gave me 30% liability, so i will have 70% covered. :party0030:

That's it, I'm getting one of those dual camera car dvr things... I've already been rear ended once in my FR-S (dumb lady said her foot slipped off the brake at a stop light)
