Fun roads near San Diego
I'm having some trouble finding some fun roads to drive around here as I've never had a car that made it worth while to go out of my way to find a fun winding road to drive.
Would any of you mind giving me some insight on the most fun canyon type winding roads? Thanks! |
Drive from the 15&76 to top of Palimar mtn to a place called Mother's Kitchen. There is a winding road leading up to the top called S Grade. Like the touge in japan. With more curves. :)

are you visiting from up north?

the 74 is okay, but there's nothing too intense, but its frequently busy with traffic and commuters. Makes for a great cruise though, just dont expect to really attack the corners, cause you usually get stuck behind a truck/yaris/other slow vehicle.

clinton keith becomes a bunch of different roads. Google map it and you will see what I mean.

If you need to get from the 15 frwy to the 5 frwy(coast) try taking the Del Dios Hway run, I do after 3pm because the 56 is BS and the 78 is a long drive (and usually just as bad).
Its not a crazy run, but it sure beats sitting in traffic :) .. http://goo.gl/ZY6Ok |
I must be the only person to not find Palomar mountain not fun, its got too many closely connected curves to build up any speed.

Just got back from highland valley, it was a blast!

Highland valley is a little sketch especially at night because of how many blind curves there are and how skinny the lanes can get. Try to do that run with someone who has done it before or run it several times at a lower speed.
Palomar is plenty of fun. If you could compare it to anything, its almost like Irohazaka on Initial D. Lot's of curves but you can't really build that much speed. SD86 did a run for it during the last full moon and it was plenty of fun with minimal close calls. Besides that sheriff at the bottom of the mountain. |
