NorCal GT5 online

I know @PMok plays, but does anyone else race GT5?

If so put your PSN name here so we can get some racing going. Mine is the same as my forum name.

:burnrubber:

PMok 06-25-2013 04:11 PM

I think @overlookedx plays sometimes.

It would be awesome if we could get a group of drivers together virtually... lol track days at Laguna Seca, Spa Francorchamps, Nurburgring...

yeah my PSN name is PMok.

MyRx 06-25-2013 04:17 PM

I'm interested. Let me get mine together, err get the wheel and mount out of storage, and play again.

Bach415 06-25-2013 04:27 PM

interested. My psn is my username

BigFatFlip 06-25-2013 04:41 PM

WHAT A BUNCH OF NERDS! lol, j/k, sounds like fun, name is the same: bigfatflip (both on PSN and XBL)

Haven't touched GT5 is a really long time, but would be nice to play with people I know (instead of trash talking 13 year olds). Need to dust off my G25 set-up, sure I'll get alot of eyerolls from my wife when I do.

Also play the dirt series (PSN) and Forza (on XBL) once in a while, if anybody is into that.

overlookedx 06-25-2013 04:45 PM

I don't play much, even less online. I've got the racing wheel setup. Mostly I use it for F1 2010 though (yes, I never upgraded).

I'm definitely down for Laguna Seca. It's the only track I drive on GT5, literally.

PSN s/n is thingswecarry

MyRx 06-25-2013 04:47 PM

Haha B, I'm into that...racing cars and motogp! Only thing, all my games are in storage and the ps3 and xb are currently full of shooting games my boys play. I don't play his games, too violent lol

RC51ed 06-25-2013 04:55 PM

Lol, I'd be down for that. I don't play any racing games. I only have a violent shooting game and Netflix. But I can pick up a used copy and play with the big boys.

Clipdat 06-25-2013 04:57 PM

Oh man, you are going to get addicted!

Must play with a wheel though, not the controller! This at the bare minimum: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-PlayStation-Driving-Force-Racing-3/dp/B0015HYPOO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1372193828&sr=8-2&keywords=logitech+wheel"]Amazon.com: Logitech PlayStation 3 Driving Force GT Racing Wheel: Video Games[/ame]

G27 if you're a big spender/baller: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-941-000045-G27-Racing-Wheel/dp/B001NT9TK4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372193828&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+wheel"]Amazon.com: Logitech G27 Racing Wheel: Electronics[/ame]

RC51ed 06-25-2013 05:16 PM

Damn, looks like I'll be spending more money than I thought. Lol

Clipdat 06-25-2013 05:22 PM

I mean technically you don't have to have a wheel and pedals, it just makes it a lot more fun.

That being said I realize it's hard to spend money for equipment for racing virtual cars instead of for FR-S mods!

PMok 06-25-2013 05:40 PM

I have the older wheel and pedals set, 1 gen behind the Driving Force GT, the Driving Force Pro. Works great with GT5 though it may not be 100% compatible with other PS3 games, I had it since GT4/PS2. Probably <$100 for one now on Amazon. Bet you could find one cheap on craigslist as well, lots of guys "grow up" and don't have time to play anymore so they gather dust in the closet haha.

I have a dedicated "game room" so if anyone ever wants to come over and bring their console/wheel/monitor (I have a small 25" widescreen monitor to lend if that is sufficient for you) we can do some serious wheel to wheel gaming haha.

I also have the DFPro and I NEVER use mine. If someone wants it, It tried selling it for like $75 before and got a bunch of craiglist lowballer replies as well as some "wanna trade for a remote control car" BS. So if someone wants that let me know. It also comes with the "crotch buster" lower attachment.

PSN name is Denkigrve but I hardly play GT any longer.

Check out craigslist or ebay, you can always find G25's for cheap (maybe even G27's now). Got mine for cheap a long time ago, back in my sim racing days, I would think you'd find these even cheaper by now.

MyRx 06-25-2013 08:29 PM

I have a wheel and pedals you can have. Text me later for pics and details. It's for ps or ps1 or ps2...I don't remember.

Clipdat 06-26-2013 06:05 PM

Might jump on for some Laguna Seca hot laps tonight if anyone is interested!

ok cool see you then. Do you have a headset? I better go charge mine...

Clipdat 06-26-2013 07:40 PM

Of course I have one, it's required like a wheel and pedals! :D

overlookedx 06-26-2013 09:03 PM

I'm already putting in some laps at Laguna Seca! Where's everyone else?

Clipdat 06-26-2013 10:47 PM

Looks like those practice laps paid off! Great stock FR-S race on Laguna Seca!

Do you have BT headset? If not, I have a spare that you are welcome to have.

PMok 06-26-2013 11:21 PM

yep that was fun... I am certainly a bit off the pace though.
time to practice more... let's try to make this a regular thing! say maybe Weds or Thurs nights?

I'd like to suggest an agenda for the racing sessions.

I would propose default of Racing Soft tires. Though for particular races we can change the requirements to say, Comfort Hard for real fun slip n' slide racing.

1. Laguna Seca. BRZ/FRS/86 only, stock or very mild tuning. Say 450PP limit to accommodate what we probably each have, a mildly tuned car to reflect our own actual cars.

2. Laguna Seca. Showroom Stock BRZ/FRS/86, Sport Hard tires, basically car as how you bought it, no performance mods. (oil change OK) (cosmetic mods like paint/wheels OK)

2. Laguna Seca. 500PP limit any car.

3. Other tracks. We can discuss PP limits or go free for all. My favorites are real tracks like Nurburgring, Spa, Cote d'Azur, Sarthe 2009.

of course this is open for discussion/change...

Clipdat 06-26-2013 11:53 PM

Sounds good! Thursday nights work best for me. I like the idea of honing my skills on Laguna Seca since I don't race it as often.

As far as other tracks, I love Spa, but I believe that was a DLC track, so not everyone will have it with just the game itself.

overlookedx 06-27-2013 12:09 AM

Good racing! I have a headset, I just have to find it. Haven't used it in quite awhile. I couldn't hear you guys so I just went to a stock frs on sport hard tires. Hope that's what everyone else was running.

I'm free pretty much whenever to play, just have to figure out when I can bust out the racing wheel. Around 6pm will work for me.

Sorry I had to bail after the race, had to eat dinner.

PMok 06-27-2013 12:20 AM

oh haha then that worked out pretty well considering you couldn't hear us. We thought you could at least hear us. We were trying to guess how many PP your first race car was, assuming it is modded to match your own car (ours were as well that first race) it was much faster than ours... though that might be a question of tire choice as well as power adders. Then we saw you switched to an FR-S with sports hards so we assumed you had gone bone stock so that's what we did. And that turned out to be a good even race at least between you and Clipdat haha.

Next time if you (or anyone else who joins us) don't have headset you can at the least use the chat mode to send us text or you can even plug in a USB keyboard to the PS3 to type stuff.

denkigrve 06-27-2013 01:16 AM

What? You don't want me to bring my 2k horsepower Escudo Pikes Peak and just drive into the walls and still win?

Gran Turismo memories!

Actually can't you trade cars? Does anyone have an AE86 yet? I want one super bad, and the god damn used car dealership won't put out.

LOL I thought the Red Bull Racing X10 or X2011 was the car to have now.

I have the AE86 S. Shigeno version. You know, panda white with tuned up motor, only thing missing is the tofu sticker. Hmm I guess I should look to see how many PP it has, see if it is comparable enough to the 86 to be in same race class.

GAH! That's the one that I want! I'm an AE86 fanatic. I'm contemplating buying another one, but I have nowhere to store it. :(

Clipdat 06-27-2013 02:20 AM

Just gifted you one!

Fair warning, it's already heavily riced out.

Sweeeet. Thanks dude. I removed the wing and turbo and painted it blue. I think it's hilarious you're stuck with the panda coloring though. lol. I adjusted your suspension settings as well. Typically most AE86 tunes have stiffer front springs and softer rear springs as well as a 1 degree negative camber up front. The car definitely gets a tad tail happy at times, but it's what made those cars so much fun!

I also don't like how the wheel choices are setup. The FR-S only gets some pretty meh wheels, but I saw the RP03s for the AE86. I want to put those on the FR-S!

GT6 is coming soon though, and should rectify some of that. From what I was reading most cars can be modded. I think they're actually doing some proper wheel type stuff so you can do wider wheels, and I'm betting lots of cash that you will be able to do the rocket bunny setup. Apparently the demo is out next week on PSN.

BigFatFlip 06-27-2013 10:46 AM

Damn, totally missed this last night could have joined in, ended up just watching the giants lose instead. Might be able to join tonight if I dig up my wheel.

Anybody preordering GT6? You get like 20 cars from GameStop or $1M credits from Amazon.

denkigrve 06-27-2013 11:02 AM

One of the 20 cars is TRD 86 2008. Fuuuuuuuuu. It's either going to be a gt86 or ae86. I hate GameStop but I think they just got my preorder. Making 1 million credits shouldn't take long.

Also BFF, I was playing on my controller last night. I find the wheel more confusing since I can't feel the forces of the car. Plus the cables hanging in front of the TV are distracting as hell.

I need to find my BT headset. It's most definitely not charged.

Clipdat 06-27-2013 11:38 AM

Nice, glad you sorted it out. I just slapped a bunch of crap on it for fun like that wing.

BigFatFlip and anyone else who wants to race, planning on racing again tonight at 6.

That's pretty funny. I mean, I could hear you guys but just barely, especially above my exhaust. I stopped on track for a second to try to listen and I think I heard you trying to explain something to me but I couldn't tell what you were saying above the sound of my engine idling plus street noise from outside. That first car I used has every power adder (too bad you can't add a turbo hehe) you can buy for the car, and I'm on the softest race tires, so not exactly where I am in real life but a lot more fun to drive!

Funny on that second race when me and Clipdat got into it before the first turn even! I swear his must have been modded a little bit cause he was catching up to me from the start line which doesn't make sense with two bone stock cars. And I swear he was gonna overtake me right before the finish line on the final lap!

I'll be on again tonight, probably won't have to bail early either so we can get in a good amount of racing.

Clipdat 06-27-2013 11:45 AM

Yeah I looked later at the car config and what happened is that I switched back the air filter and exhaust to make it stock thinking those where the only two things I had changed to mimic my actual car, but realized I also added the 6-speed close ratio transmission and forgot to switch that back!

Ha now I don't feel as bad not being on pace lol.
I might not be on at 6 but if you guys will be on a while I might be able to join. But I'm actually supposed to meet up with Kamaka some point today.
