BRZ antenna options

Hey guys.
I was just wondering if there are any shark fin / bulb covering options for the BRZ besides that halfassed beatsonic brz one.

i know theres perrin stubby and a whole bunch of frs only ones.

just wondering if you guys found any others

KelvinBRZ 06-23-2013 02:49 AM

There's a VG one that I've been trying to get my hands on... so far no luck because my group buy vendor is being sketchy and not responding to messages after a month from purchase.

For the time being I simply removed the stock antenna stick and just let it sit there without it on, radio signals & XM seem fine. I'm interested too to see what other antenna options there are; I obviously removed mine cause it looks cheaper than anything that you would find at thrift shops. :barf:

I think I am going with a Perrin stubby. Not feeling the shark fin on these cars.

Thats what I did, think it looks much cleaner.

BRZJonny 06-24-2013 03:05 AM

beat sonic looks/works great...why the hate?

wrb 06-24-2013 03:11 AM

Would changing of antenna to aftermarket make any difference in connectivity?

Burrcold 06-24-2013 03:13 AM

I think the Beat Sonic looks awesome on these cars. If anything, the regular black job looks out of place.

I agree with the OP. I see you're from Canada. You guys get the better looking Beatsonic antenna that isn't compatible with the US models. The US one they offer looks weak and isn't even an exact color match.

I too am wanting an aggresive looking, color matched, full functioning US one.

Umm..I'm in the U.S. and I got one for my Satin White...works perfect and is an EXACT color match. Where are you getting your info?

The359 06-25-2013 12:42 AM

Beatsonic's page for the BRZ specifies that the only color they matched is World Rally Blue. All the other colors are listed under "Similar Alternate Color".

Unfortunately Beatsonic must have sold out of their Grey color because it is pictured but not listed as an option for ordering. :(

Can't speak for the others, but the Satin White matches perfectly.

The left is the car color, the right is their "alternate color" for the white. It's a much closer alternate than some of the other colors they offer.

switchlanez 06-25-2013 05:57 AM

I've got a Cusco antenna on order. Here are @mechaghost's pics of it (not mine):

Only because I wanted the JDM antenna for its similar shortness til I realized it's it tilts/folds requiring a different base that won't support sat radio which the USDM base does.

I don't know about anyone else, but I hate the satellite antenna. I had an aftermarket satellite radio in my old 3 series, and that thing never dropped it's signal on the way to work (I drive through heavily wooded areas of I-5). Now this thing consistently drops signal in several spots, any time the South/South East has any serious tree obstruction.

I work with satcom at work, there is almost no reason for it to be dropping the signal as often as it is, I think it's mainly because they integrated it with the FM antenna or because the housing is poor. I really can't wait to try another option when it comes out, or I'm just going to drop satellite radio.

Have you had the TSB performed on your unit? They replace the antenna and housing. Mine has worked great since this was done.

I got this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scion-FRS-To...55da52&vxp=mtr

White64Goat 06-25-2013 10:40 PM

Look in the radio section of the forums. I've tried several antennas and the FM reception is less than stellar with all the ones I tried. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ht=White64Goat

Yup. Twist off, twist on the new one. Even the fins are easy. Just twist off stock, twist/screw on the connector for the fin, wipe down the area the fin will sit on with IPA, line it up the way you want and then peel and stick.

I actually used some blue painters tape to line up the fin with the center of the car, then mounted it as you mentioned. Took me all of 10 minutes.

I should have specified, I'm having a problem with the Sirius XM antenna, not the GPS antenna. Mine was produced after the fix. Or is there a TSB for the Sirius antenna too?

Mine was also produced after the problem was supposedly fixed. When I took it in for a service, I told the tech about my intermittent problems with reception etc. when they checked it, they discovered that the upgrade had NOT been performed on my car even though the vin# was after the problem range. Subaru authorized the fix and since then everything works perfect.

Him and I are still waiting for them if he got them from the same place I did, which I am 98% sure.

What I was saying is that I have no GPS antenna issues. Are you referring to the SiriusXM antenna, which is separate form the GPS antenna?

Scooby South 07-02-2013 10:17 PM

sooo educate me a bit.. With the Beat Sonic..Do we loose any capability??? XM/HD/NAV ????
An option I am checking on right now is a new Legacy Sharkfin..in Factory Colors.. I just have to see if it is compatible with our connections... I sure hope so as that would be a great mod... as long as it would work. :) Will keep you advised

It bolts up but is non-functional. If function is a priority then you'll want a cover or short mast instead.

A modified Nissan antenna apparently works but XM is gone and radio reception is likely an issue.

I'm sure I can find a picture somewhere, but I've had the VG antenna since August of last year and it's definitely still holding up. Paint match is perfect versus the Beat-Sonic and I've noticed no loss in reception versus the stock antenna listening to XM radio daily. GPS is still terrible but no antenna change will fix that.
