Do you get more thumbs up or dirty looks?

WRX's and STi's are abundant around my area, and I usually see at least one everytime I drive. Most of them give me thumbs up or head nods when they see/hear my car. But I have gotten some dirty looks from a few of them. Scion owners, mainly tC's tend to give me looks of jealousy. I would too if I saw my tC come up to an FR-S. To me, when I get some head nods from Subie owners, it generally means they understand the purpose of the car, knowing its power is inferior but handling is much better. It's fun to hear other Boxer rumbles and I can join them with my Scion.

Asphalt~86 06-23-2013 12:07 AM

I've gotten thumbs up for cars that are worth a billion times our value. Fuck the haters.

GT 86 Brah 06-23-2013 12:09 AM

i dont think ive had any dirty looks from anyone except truck drivers. they would pull up to red lights and floor their trucks then spit out their window almost everytime or toss a cigarette at my car after passing.

ive gotten thumbs ups, nods, and follow side by side from a GTR, maserati, and a GT3. recently had an aged guy pull up at a gas station and asked me if i think i can blow the doors off his car. he had a phantom! haha

Cade01 06-23-2013 12:16 AM

I had a horde of people walking laps around my car today as I ate lunch. One of the guys came in to track down the owner(me) and talked for a bit about the car and how much he and all the others outside liked it. It made my day :)

Calavera 06-23-2013 12:24 AM

No dirty looks but I did have a jerk in a Porsche hard lane check me then took off like a bat out of hell. Guess hoping I would chase him.

Carwhisperer 06-23-2013 01:11 AM

I've gotten 1 guy in a R35 to smile at me at a red light. I was just doing my own thing and then once the light turned green the idiot floored it and ended up wrecking the dealerships 2013 GTR into a concrete wall from getting the tail in the air somehow. I saw it all happen so quickly, I was still in the same intersection and laughed as I drove by.

And no he didn't appear to be hurt, he got right out of the car.

Lisa14914 06-23-2013 01:16 AM

For me it depends on if its a guy or girl haha girls tend to give me dirty looks when they realize that it's a girl driving it and guys typically give a thumbs up.

supra2nv 06-23-2013 01:20 AM

thumbs up. all the time.

m.wood0213 06-23-2013 01:27 AM

I received a friendly honk from an sti when i was waiting in a turning lane and it passed me. other than that just stares of wonder (wtf is that?).

Ryuu0u 06-23-2013 01:34 AM

Smiles and waves mostly.

Grey 06-23-2013 01:50 AM

I get shitty looks from "tuners" in things tacky Hondas and gen. 2 Eclipses. It's not my fault you drive an Eclipse, no need to get mad at me.

Everyone else is pretty genuinely interested. No real thumbs up, but I get into a lot of parking lot conversations with people who really like the car.

husker741 06-23-2013 02:10 AM

I've gotten thumbs up from import owners and muscle car owners. I've also gotten people giving me shit for how slow it is. Some people I think are just sincerely jealous haha. And yes, a lot of trucks are assholes. I was downshifting to switch lanes, and this F-350 heard me so he sped up and blocked me from getting over. No idea why. But I enjoy feeling the love from Subie owners.

Code:Red 06-23-2013 02:16 AM

See, this is another reason why I have 15% window tint...so I can see/sense other drivers checking out my car. I get stares of wonderment and points, too. I remember getting out of church one day on base and 2 dudes were taking cell phone pics of my car. The following Sunday, another 2 dudes walked by in amazement. I've seen a couple WRXs/STis checkin me out just because they know what I have and respect it. I get a lot of middle-aged guys in Mustangs and Camaros do double takes or rubber necking it. Oh, and there was a boyfriend/girlfriend in a tC Release Series keeping pace behind me checking my car out. (I was watching in the rear view) Other than that, no dirty looks from anyone.

Muaddib 06-23-2013 02:19 AM

Dirty look from older folks. But the ladies seen to like the car.

yeah what's with the trucks???

Mandy 06-23-2013 02:21 AM

I waved at an AE86 driver passing by me once, while smiling like an idiot. He kinda just stared at me with a "huh?"looking face.

This is great lol :laughabove:

Trucks need to quit it with the "Whyn'cha get a haircut" attitude.

Dirty looks from Mercedes E class drivers who are old , usually because their old and fragile bodies would never be able to sit in without breaking their hips, and their eyes are so broken they're trying to read the subaru logo but all conventional knowlege of prior subaru vehicles leaves them frowning and baffled. A young guy parking a CLK "mercez" yelled bullshit at me, classy as fuck. A CLK with auto dealer plates swerve-bombed me on the highway while I was in the slow lane, I nearly called the dealership to complain about the behavior. I however give a lot of room and respect to mercedes SL and SLS drivers, I think they are very nice cars with great body work that speaks quality.

I get some nice compliments from GTI drivers, and had nice conversation with a Bentley and Ferrari driver, the ferrari driver took it in stride when I claimed the car had "ferrari power", lol. Mazda drivers are always go for chatting up about high compression engines of course.

Some people that you wouldn't even think that would sniff in the direction of your car can be pretty nice to talk to about the car. I met a ford driver who drove a supercharged F-350 and a GT-500, obviously a piston/petrol-head, who was nice enough to see some footage of my car and understand where I was going to take it, or what the car can do modded. Remember that it's not the car, it's the driver. Where there are some who drive or act offensively because of your car, there are also some smart and friendly people out there who understand or are at least entertained by the FR-S.

marky 06-23-2013 02:25 AM

Got 4 of this today

switchlanez 06-23-2013 02:27 AM

Smiles, thumbs up, rubbernecking, signaling to roll down my window just so they can shout a compliment. I walk back to my car to see strangers standing there to ask questions. Common question is "How fast is it?" and I say "not that fast" and smile. I assume going around corners for fun is a foreign concept (literally) to the average person out here and don't feel like explaining.

That is kind of weird normally the dealerships do not allow people to test drive GT-Rs. Unless it was a mechanic doing the PDI and filling up the gas tank… That sucks to read that a car costing over 100k gets crashed before it can find a good owner.

I don't understand why anyone would floor one of the fastest 0-60 cars on the planet like that. :burnrubber:

Tromatic 06-23-2013 02:43 AM

Ricers and retards seem to notice it most.

wrxgoose 06-23-2013 03:25 AM

i get dirty looks, but only because it's louder than hell.

hey, it's not my fault you have your window down on the passenger side when i'm taking off from a light.

travelmonkey 06-23-2013 03:42 AM

thumbs up, waves and head nods quite often. I go to a particular Starbucks regularly and almost everyday someone is looking at my car and asks questions. My dad has a 55 Chevy and I have gone to various car shows in my FR-S and I get a lot of questions and positive remarks from "hot rodders" regarding the car.

j2digit 06-23-2013 04:29 AM

living here in the bay area , I've gotten mostly thumbs up than downs. U get the occasional dirty looks but not often, but then again i don't look to the sides much at the light( don't want them thinking i'm all that). I do get questioned , "what kind of car is that?" guess debadging the FRS to Toyota really throws them in a loop. What i dont get is the dirty look from TC owners, what's up with that? we're practically brothers and sisters i think:iono:

CamryDS 06-23-2013 04:47 AM

lots of thumbs up and nods. A lot of old civics that want to race, but have no idea how to maneuver through traffic safely and fast. A lot of older executives come up to me and ask me what car it is and where they can get one.

DIF 06-23-2013 05:38 AM

It's almost all positive for me. What I get the most actually is, "how do you like it"? My answer is always the same :happyanim:

that I don't understand. when i'm on the road, I don't even notice trucks or suvs as potential haters. they are just so far away from the sports coupe class that whats the point of hating one or the other?

the most hate ive had recently was actually a BRZ (i'm in an FRS) nasty looks and revving off ridiculously after cutting me off in traffic...

id338 06-23-2013 07:25 AM

I've had everything from the truck people mentioned earlier to a C6 Z06 or 993 give me a thumbs up. Definitely at least a few curious gazes every drive.

Lately I find more people don't recognize it or care. I imagine it's probably going to start blending in pretty soon. Not necessarily a bad thing.

headlikeahole 06-23-2013 08:37 AM

From what I've gathered so far:

Haters : Guys in newer full size trucks, riced honda civics, Acura rsx, moded dodge neons, Porsche Caymans always try to race me I dont know if they approve or not.

Thumbs up: Tc owners, wrx/sti, miatas, mitsu evos, guys on crotch rockets and the odd toyota celica.

Best experience I have had so far was a guy on a R1 cut through traffic at a red light just to stick his head in my passenger side window and ask me how I liked the car.

silvercar 06-23-2013 09:19 AM

all positives for me

I've had guys come up to me and offer to buy my car. People giving thumbs up, waving, nodding. I can pretty much tell who will react. Any teen guy driving a beater, another subby, a genesis coupe, or a sports motorcycle is a guaranteed reaction. My friends always say it's like I'm famous driving.
Now there's a lot more in my area so it rarely happens anymore. Last June was crazy.

Buddhalite 06-23-2013 10:11 AM

I live in a fairly affluent area with many seasonal snow birds driving expensive cars. I've had a number of old guys in Maserati's pull up, check out the car and give a thumbs up. I hardly even notice it when I'm by myself but my wife still gets a kick out of it when she notices people staring/pointing.

dem00n 06-23-2013 10:14 AM

I only get dirty looks from kids my age.

Ah, O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock

Guys give a thumbs up because a girl is driving it. Honestly. I have seen one girl driving one. She got a thumbs up from me. Haha

What about this reply? Justify it's existence.

Celica00 06-23-2013 04:01 PM

LOL was in the fast lane on freeway this morning. 2 cars behind me was a STI and the car right behind me was a C6 vette. no one was doing anything douche baggy but there was a motorcycle in the HOV lane that passed both the STI and vette w/o even looking at them, slowed down as he passed me and gave me a thumbs up then sped off. :bellyroll:

smbrm 06-23-2013 05:54 PM

Indifference from some TC's, thumbs up from other TC's, XB's. Generally, good response. Also been cut off twice by the same FJ cruiser in less than a mile!
