Should i trade my fr-s for.......

Now i love this car VERY much. everything is absolutely perfect.....except power. After 13 months, 30000 miles, i want more power. I am considering a trade for a 2010 Camaro SS with 9000 miles. Turbo or S/C the fr-s you say. Well i can turbo or s/c the camaro for about the same price. Fr-s is a amazing car, but i want PPOOOOWWWWEEEEERRRRRR!!! im 50/50 on the trade. So i need input!!! thanks.

sevi21 06-21-2013 10:03 PM

More power!? Buy a used M6, BOOM power. Mission accomplished.

TylerLieberman 06-21-2013 10:04 PM

....No. What else does a Camaro have besides power?

BadMoon 06-21-2013 10:09 PM

You're on a forum, filled with a bunch of people that are fans of a car, that you are asking whether you should trade in. What do you think the answer is going to be? :iono:

i know, probably not the best place to ask, but hopefully find someone who also owns or has owned a camaro ss.

Have you driven the Camaro? It's got some pretty bad blind spots and it's a boat compared to the FRS. I will agree it's fast but that's about all it's got going for it in an FRS vs. SS comparison.

TennisHsu 06-21-2013 10:17 PM

Buy a motorcycle, save tons of money, and smoke everything with 4 wheels.

i wouldnt. i do think that power changes what the car is going to feel like. if you want a car that has power, and can handle it while maintaining composure, its hard to look at pretty much any corvette of the last decade or so. imo (which means pretty much nothing) the camaro is really impressive for what it does. not so much for how it does it.

Lol !:laughabove:

That is so true.

If you want an honest opinion, here i like the frs, i owned a few 500+ before. I will say it here.

1/ talk about power (balls) there is always car better than your. A honda cdivic may have 1000hp built who know.
2/ talk about reliability, there is no one to beat Toyota, and a brand new, un modded car
3/ talk about practicality. What do you need from your car ?
4/ what are you going to do with the power your car have ?

Me, i personally think any car with 300+ hp and light on it feets are good. I was originally hoping for the FRS to be 275+ Atleast. But....it is not, that is why i dont have one.

I drove a civic before, corolla, camry i4.

It sucks when you dont have passing power, and worse when a CUV pass you. I dont care how good you are in the corner and arches..,but if you are not racing your car in the track....it is unpractical.

I had my vr4 450 awhp. S2000 400rwhp. Drove a friend rx8 425.... Passing power is crazily good. But why need so much when u can get into trouble fast, especially cops....

Now into the Camaro...to be honest dude, their number is good, but they are heavy...and they feel heavy too! Their interior suck...and their visibility is shitty. Many people call them a driving coffin....next you need a hole!

Camaro is just a chevrolet...and their reliability is shitty!

Conclusion, if you want passing power, you are spot on that FRS is under powered....if you dont enjoy drifting, and cutting corner....the car is not for you. There are much better car than Camaro...

mashal 06-21-2013 10:36 PM

Like everyone else said, this a vague question.. More power ?
Like you said yourself turbo'ing either car would cost the same .. Do the FRS and smoke camaro's all day long

marky 06-21-2013 10:37 PM

why ask when its your for your needs and already know what you really want :iono: :bellyroll:

i say you should....... hmmmm do whats best for you:bellyroll:

or you can do this

If you wanted more power, then I question whether you did your homework on this car before spending your hard earned money. Was this an impulse purchase?

hanabie 06-21-2013 10:40 PM

GO FUCKING TRADE THE CAR! THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE KNOW HOW TO APPRECIATE THE CAR.

Luis_GT 06-21-2013 10:46 PM

If you think power makes a better car... I have some very sad news for you...

I traded a 300HP mustang for my 225HP bimmer and have yet to miss the power

I was just about to say the exact same thing. Yeah, it's fun to stomp the go pedal but it drives like crap...

Jond63 06-21-2013 10:56 PM

I would turbo or SC your current car -- had a Corvette that would break the national speed limit in 1st gear under 5 seconds -- so stupid fast and not so fun when it wasn't (low speed = boring). Bad gas mileage, and even worse reliability. Will be a cold day in hell before I buy another Chevy, and really do love the Vettes, just wish someone else made them. Camaro shares similar electronics/parts quality, so I say no.

If you want a camaro to replace this car.. Then you bought the wrong car to begin with.. You really want 1100 more lbs of mass to push around in corners?
My nephew has one.. SS version.. It's a tank.. Sorry.. No disrespect intended..
Look for a 2004 Z06 owned by some old guy who babied it.. You can thank me later...

cjdriiiiift 06-21-2013 11:04 PM

thanks for the input guys. But you all should understand ive put 30000 miles on this car. thats the most i put on any car, i would probably get bored of a F40 after 30000 miles. (ok prob not) i do not have much confidence in american car quality. Just the LS motors are so strong and unlimited power capabilities. Im just looking for the next best thing. I do appreciate this car, i do drift the car at events, and i do throw it into corners on a regular basis. After the input i might just wait for the power and just turbo the fr-s.

Grey 06-21-2013 11:05 PM

You should do what makes you happy.

Following that, the people who shop for a Camaro and the people who shop for an FR-S are not the same market. I'm curious how you ended up buying an FR-S. Did you not realize what you were getting into when you bought the car? Don't you think that short-sightedness is going to end up doing something similar when you trade it for another car? I'm not trying to be your dad or anything here, but it sounds like you're not making the most well-thought out decisions.

Also: you put so much mileage on it in one year that you've set yourself up to get the least possible amount back for it. The Chevy dealership is going to screw you when you show up wanting to get rid of a brand new car.

Mr.Jay 06-21-2013 11:20 PM

Friend has a Camaro SS and only thing it has over the FRS is power imo

I say get a 240z with a LS engine. Always wanted to do this.

mush 06-21-2013 11:21 PM

Ls motor in frs

Demandred7 06-21-2013 11:28 PM

Want more from Toyota, the next Chairman wants a "Supra like" car to be their next sports car. Wait about two years. Albeit for a few more clams than the FR-S.

BRZPDX 06-21-2013 11:29 PM

FI the FR-S, have fun with it for now. This car is just a teaser for the new Supra.

radroach 06-21-2013 11:38 PM

Only think I'd hold my breath for is the NSX Sport AWD hybrid concept [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJLQsQyBQOw"]Next Evolution Honda NSX Concept - YouTube[/ame] but again not in the same class as an FR-S or a camaro, the idea of having a SH-AWD sport car with hybrid emissions for city driving sounds awesome

Here's the question you need to ask yourself:

Will you be happy downgrading the surgical precise handling, fun factor, outstanding driving position, responsiveness, several thousand dollars on the trade-in and purchase of a new vehicle etc in order to get more power?

thill 06-21-2013 11:54 PM

It will cost you a lot of money to get the type of power at the wheel of a twin. I would go test drive a Mustang GT and then add mods to it if you still crave power. Get a Mustang GT with the track pack and you should be under $30K. I would take one over a Camaro anyday.

that is the question i am asking. Im a big guy, the camaro had a better driving position for me. Although you make the question sound a little worse, even though it means the same :bonk:

LOL. If he owns or has owned a Camaro and now has a FR-S what does that tell you? Perhaps it says there's more pleasure to be taken from driving a slow car quickly than there is driving a fast car slowly.
:burnrubber:

cplabaunza 06-22-2013 02:52 AM

I've owned a 2010 Camaro 2SS and then bought a used C6 for $25k a year later...the Camaro sat and I sold it. If you want power less 600lbs get a used C6 and slap an A&A supercharger on it. To me the Camaro suspension felt sloppy and to get the suspension right it would cost over $4k...my C6 with Z51 suspension package felt perfect for me...just my $.02

Gixxersixxerman 06-22-2013 03:24 AM

Well I think people need 500whp in a daily driver like people need busa's and ZX14's on The street..

Like the guy who said unless your on a race track or drifting around every corner the FRS isn't practical.. Well if your not drag racing at every light then why do you need "passing" power.. This car has as much power as 4cyl non turbo charged sporty car that's been out for the last 10 years or so.. About 200 and for me it's more then enough.. But that me.. I get close to 40 mpg on the highway back and forth to Victorville Cali and Vegas.. I get 34-35 in city..

That said there are times I wouldn't mind extra power.. But not enough that I'm trading or selling just yet.. I am waiting for the new Nissan to come out.. Rumors say 250+ and six speed and limited slip diff.. Just as light as the Twins..who knows.. But I've driven 400-500 WHP cars and its just to much.. But alas it's just my opinion.. I think people getting things like that, are the same as the ones that get the big bore bike.. To win the war of who's ****s bigger..

suaveflooder 06-22-2013 03:29 AM

I think you should absolutely get another car if you want more power, just not a camaro. They are slow fat pigs. There are just so many better options out there. A Mustang will at least keep somewhat in a car that can handle. The camaros look cool, but I have a friends husband who sells them and doesn't like them at all. I get nothing but negative comments from them, but with mustangs, I get very few.

If you are willing to pay for a little maintenance and wanna keep the price about the same as an FRS, but with more power and similar handling, get an E46 M3.

humfrz 06-22-2013 03:34 AM

Oh, heavens sake, cjdriiiiift, you gave your car a good go and had some fun.

It might be time "for a change" and the Camero is a good car.

So, I'd recommend you go for it!

EAGLE5 06-22-2013 04:26 AM

Love this thread. Whatever floats your boat. I think the Camaro SS does look badass in black. I, however, just came from a boat and don't want to go back to one. I'd rather get a used Corvette like a C5Z. In the meantime, I'm waiting for Innovative and Vortech to get CARB. Then I'll think seriously about power.

Low&Slow 06-22-2013 04:32 AM

If you don't mind giving up great handling, then go for it!
