GT5 Stock GT86 Competition - March 2012

:burnrubber:

I. INTRODUCTION
This is a friendly GT5 "buy and drive" competition in which we race the GT86 (bone stock) on different tracks each month in GT practice mode.

It's just for fun, so even if your time isn't the fastest don't hesitate to join in (and feel free to ask for tips).

II. TRACKS
  1. Cote D'Azur
  2. Rome
Poll for next month's tracks

III. RULES
  1. Stock car (no mods, aftermarket rims, tuning, aero, or anything!)
  2. Traction Contol = Off
  3. ABS = 0 or 1
  4. Grip = Real
  5. Stock Sport Hard tires
  6. Driving line is allowed, but not recommended (it's a crutch with little-to-no advantages... and the game is more fun without it)
  7. No other aids
  8. Oil change, engine rebuild, and chassis restoration are allowed
  9. Valid lap times only
  10. No cheating!

IV. SUBMISSIONS
Attach/link a screenshot showing your time and please post your results in this format (so I can copy/paste):
[Track]
[Time] - [Name] - [Controller] - [Transmission]
Where:
Controller =
  • DS (PS3 dualshock 3 / SixAxis)
  • 6AXS (PS3 original SixAxis)
  • LDF (Logitech Driving Force)
  • DFGT (Logitech Driving Force GT)
  • G25 (Logitech G25)
  • G27 (Logitech G27)
  • 911GT2 (Fanatec Porsche 911 GT2)
  • 911TS (Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S)
  • CSRE (Fanatec CSR Elite)
  • T500 (Thrustmaster T500RS)
  • etc
Transmission =
  • AT
  • Clutch
  • Paddles
  • Sequential
  • Buttons (i.e. when shifting with a DS)
Example:
Top Gear
1:23.240 - Deslock - G27 - Clutch
Submissions will be accepted until midnight EST on the last day of the month. You can resubmit as you improve your laps, but only your best time per track per transmission will be listed (so if you want to submit for both paddles and clutch, you can).

Please PM me if I haven't added a time within a couple days (in case I missed it).

V. GHOST REPLAYS
This is optional, but feel free to attach your ghost replays. Post yours and ask for pointers. Or if you're good, help out the rest of us by showing us how it's done!

Just kidding, I can read it just fine. I hope to get in a few laps tonight.

Did a few laps @Monaco. No 'clean' laps to speak of, lol, but I'll be shooting for a low 1:54.x for now.

Can we get this moved to off topic please. Thanks.

For reals?

With the possible exception of GT5's Sport Hard tires probably being stickier than the real car's, this thread is about driving a realistic GT86 simulator. It makes more sense being in GT86 General than Off-topic (which is for BS unrelated to the FT86).

And since only 8 threads in GT86 General have been posted in today, it's not like the this forum is overloaded.

Why does this thread's presence bother you?

A) This thread has nothing to do with the real FRS
B) This is a post about a video game that fits perfectly within the confines of off topic
C) Look where the Forza 4 thread is located and ask yourself why this thread belongs here
D) nothing wrong with the thread, just doesn't belong in this section

switchlanez 03-03-2012 09:08 PM

My opinion: This thread is very relevant and should get stickied monthly in this section. When the FR-S is out and driven on tracks, enthusiasts can upload CAN-BUS data to GT5 threads like these.

dsgerbc 03-03-2012 09:59 PM

Meh, I don't care where this thread is. Long-term it's going to off-topic for sure, so might as well be moved there right away.

I find it amazing how some people feel the need to play forum admins. Why don't you report the thread or PM an admin to get it moved if it means that much to you...you know, something constructive?

Not saying I don't agree it belongs in the off topic section, but why act like Mr. Serious instead of reporting the issue to an admin?

Zaku 03-03-2012 11:56 PM

He's right you know it is kind of in the wrong place, that and it was quiet annoying that in the last couple of months you have to weed to the Section to find this thread.

I the future I think it might find a place up here.

The Forza one is pretty easy to get too, I do feel for those people though they just want to have fun but they don't have the 86 in their game yet.

Also... that GT5 sync thing.. yeah the car isn't even here it might not even be here till who knows when, with the delay on how long it took GT5 to come out I'm not going to count on the feature to be available till the cars are all over the place.

Bottom line is it's in the wrong place, and reported or not mods aren't around 24/7 the FRS section is a mess to begin with give em a break. They are working hard. They are only 3 people after all.

gt86mods 03-04-2012 12:01 AM

This forum clearly needs more admins. Between people talking trash constantly and threads popping up in the wrong places, it's way too much for them to handle. That and every day it's growing as demand for the cars grow & people find their way here.

Like I said, I agree it belongs in the off topic...I just find it amusing when people have such an attitude about something so small and insignificant.

00NissanNinja 03-04-2012 03:25 AM

meh, don't really care where it is it'll be around either way. I'm sure the moderators have seen these treads, there's been like 4 or 5 of them. Hell some of them even posted in the older ones.

  1. This is about a simulation providing (presumably) a somewhat lifelike feel for driving the real GT86.
  2. ditto
  3. The Forza 4 thread belongs in General Automotive because they're not racing the FT86.
  4. It makes more sense for it to be here than in Off Topic (which currently features threads about backpacking Thailand, 1990s cartoons, and the NBA).
Having written that, I agree with you somewhat: this thread would belong in an FT86 Racing sub-forum, if one existed. Whether or not there's enough traffic in GT86 General to warrant creating a FT86 Racing forum is up to the site admin, not us.

But I didn't start this GT5 GT86 competition originally, and never would've found out about it in Off-Topic.

Also.... this forum is pretty strange sometimes.

There is a ton of great information and good postings here, but at the same time it seams like a good number of people like to play moderator... If someone says something they don't like, or does anything other than praise the frs/brz, they are instantly labeled as "trolls". I find it odd that so many people who are not taking part in the monthly competition felt it necessary to post in this thread, just to say where they think the thread belongs. I personally don't care what section this thread is in; and do not find it worth arguing over. To that end however, I disagree with off topic. By very definition, off topic is for threads that do not relate to the brz/frs, and thus... are off topic. Since this thread does in fact relate to the frs/brz, it is not off topic....

So Mods, Put the thread wherever you want it....

Finally got a chance to play today. Not my fastest first sector, and it didn't help that I hit one wall and got sideways another time... I figure I can trim off another second or so.

Edit: Oops uploaded wrong replay. Will fix shortly.

Not uploading my Rome replay since it's not record breaking but I was wondering if the list toppers could share theirs? I'm stumped as to where I can trim any significant amount of time.

Yeah, I almost didn't post my Monaco replay because I knew it wouldn't remain the fastest for long (I decided to anyway because no one else had yet).

I won't be able to play again until next weekend, but I can fire it up for a replay. If you post yours, I'll take a look. No promises I'll be able to help as I haven't driven Rome in a couple months and never learned the track.

Sorry about that, was late for me after I did my run and was thinking of getting the replay the next time I turned on my PS3. I updated my original post with the replay file.

Yeah, Rome is a challenging course. I think the first right corner I can gain a little bit of time. Some time can also be gained for the right turn after the long back straight. The trick is not hit the left barrier coming out :-) but I think the most amount of time to be gained must be the last two right turns leading on to the front straight.
