Sunday July 14th CV/Palomares/Sunol Drive
Start at Bodi's Java in Castro Valley. Meet between 9 and 10:00am. Leave at 10:05am, taking East Castro Valley Blvd to Palo Verde then right onto Palomares. Cruise casual because there will probably be lots of idiots on bicycles. Palomares to Niles Canyon. Left on Niles Canyon. Careful, it's a dangerous left. Niles Canyon to 680 South. Stay right at the stop sign in Sunol. 680 South one exit and off at Andrade. Left over the freeway to Sunol Super Stop for some race gas. There are only one 2-sided pump, but you can carry the pump over the car. There's also E85. Then we go our separate ways or return along Palomares back to Castro Valley.

Sounds like a nice little drive down Palomares (taking it down to Fremont tonight). Usually like to take my Sunday drives earlier specifically because of the cyclists (plus I get back in time for brunch with the wife). Put me down as a maybe

Love the start time. I'm writing this down on my calendar and hope to be there...
|
LOL it's the perfect route, but I might just decide to do it one time in the early morning to enjoy the clear road, then meet up with you guys, and then do it again. :D

Or stay up late. I often drive miles without seeing a soul, late at night.
|
I'll be there!!
|
want to go! But this is MOD weekend.
|
Protip: The cash/debit price is .10 cents/gal less, but the pump (especially the left side one for our cars) can be finicky. Best to take your debit card inside and let them hang onto it and open the pump up for you, pump your desired amount, and then go in and complete the transaction.
This way you are guaranteed to get the "cash price"! Quote:

Sunday... darn. Can't.

ill think about it, you down @mou??

the one nice thing I've noticed at the Sunol Super Station, is that while the price of 87 fluctuates everyday, the race gas prices all stay the same. I have a photo of the pump from 7 months ago and the prices were the same for the 94-100. So when the price goes up on 87/91, you're getting a better deal on the 94.
Well, we've had prior discussions about how the car prefers 94 octane and takes a performance hit when running 91. (Before anyone questions it once again, it's in the BRZ owner's manual.) Has anyone though done the calculations and figured out what is most cost effective... i.e. buy 8 gallons of 91 and then add 2 gallons of 100 (that was roughly what Robispec recommended to me in LV), or a full tank of 94, or other variations... like buy 5 gallons of 87 and 5 gallons of 100? Math makes my head hurt. :iono: |
I did the math. 94 was cheaper on the day I did it. It's also way easier to just put the 94 in. Usually I don't bother going all the way out there, instead just using 91. I definitely feel a difference with 94, but I'm not sure it's worth the money on a stock tune. With mods, I'd go for E85 anyway since we have the option.

One time I pumped an entire tank of 100 and it was glorious!
Butt dyno and placebo effect be damned, I was flying! :burnrubber::D |

That's for 92, though. For 91, you need twice as many gallons of 91 as 100 to get 94 octane, a 2:1 ratio. $4.20 x 2 + $7.80 x 2 = $16.20, or $5.40 per gallon To get 93 octane, you need a 3.5:1 ratio of 91 to 100. $4.20 x 7 + $7.80 x 2 = $45, or $5 per gallon $5.60 is the 94 price. Looks like mixing is cheaper. |
Anybody else thinking? Looks like we've got:

This is a drive I can actually do for certain! Sundays are cleared out usually. Added it to my calendar.
:happyanim: |
added to my calendar too :D

FYI, this will have to be a cruise drive, not a high-speed blast. I'm not saying I'm going to exactly drive the limit, but there are too many bicyclists on the road on a typical Sunday morning to make going quickly a safe proposition. I suggest night driving if you want to go fast. I will, however, point out the fun places and dangerous corners. We had a motorcyclist die recently. Also, a Viper moron plunged his car into a power pole, knocking our power out for a day. Remember, don't be stupid.
|
Going to SF to see my daughter that weekend, daughter and I are looking forward to driving the cruise with all of you

I'm off that day so ill see you guys there 😁

I'm very interested! Gonna try and make this and the Canepa drive the day before, but if I only make one, I think I want to make this one.
|
I think I'm in!! Kinda dialed in the dampening and spring rates on the Zero 3s's. Plus I have that FT86 SpeedFactory exhaust from Vegas to put to the test.
|
35 hours to go. Hope to see you guys there! PM me if you need a cell number.
|
Sorry I can't make this run, daughter has other plans....have fun
|
I'll see you in the morning! Guess I'll bring the BRZ after all... even ran the tank down a little so it'll be ready for a fillup of the sweet 94 nectar at Sunol.
|
Thanks for organizing... it was a nice drive :)
|
yep fun drive with you guys, good to see familiar faces and also meet a few new ones. I'll have some pics and video to share a little later when I get them off my phone.
|

Sorry I left so quick, guys. That breakfast did not treat my stomach well. From pretty much half-way through the first hour, I was feeling blech. Hope you guys are OK. I'm blaming the salmon. |
