11k miles and I still....

Love every second I drive this car.
Stare at it every time I walk away from it.
Park absurdly far away judging the shade to potential pollen and pine cones ratio (lol).
Get super excited when I see another twin.
Give a thumbs up to other car enthusiasts ESPECIALLY American muscle cars as I think that import v muscle feud is moronic.
Will talk someone's ear off if they ask anything about my car.
Refresh the tracking information when I order mods about 15 times an hour.
And best of all I'm still learning how to drive this car better.
Have a good day my fellow 86ers!
Brandon

I'm in the same boat as you. This car is nearly perfect.

:thumbsup:I'll see you at work Brandon haha , we should all park in a row like once a week to announce are presence seeing as 3 different FRS of different colors are there.
Anyways glad your enjoying it man!

I'm about 1900 miles in and I still have mixed feelings on it. I love it but there are a couple small things that are to my disliking. But, that's how it will always be no matter what car you buy.

Honestly, a header and ecu tune to lose that torque dip would make me pretty content with the power on it. It's not bad, but that dead spot just gets annoying to me after a while. After that, I think the car will have me 100% sold on keeping it for a really long time.

It has it's little issues here and there. Overall though, I'm happy with it. It's a good car.

Same here, the fr-s is such a fun car to drive. Always look forward to spending time behind the wheel of mine. The only downside is it's made my GTI feel a bit dull and top-heavy.

The torque "dip" is the beginning of its second wind.. where the fun begins..
you would think with continuous VVT , 2 fuel systems, ECU sophistication and all.. that this issue shouldnt exist. It adds character, I guess. You just need to be aware its there and grab the right gear to put you in the revs above it. Its hasnt been an issue for me.. its not a dip in feel.. more like a plateau in power for a few hundred rpms.. makes it feel like its "winding" up for its torque peak..

reeves 06-17-2013 02:28 PM

23K miles & still feel the same way.

thill 06-17-2013 02:38 PM

Also keep in mind the twins make like 90% of their torque below 3K rpms. Pros and cons to everything, having just from from a turbocharged car, I also appreciate the N/A engine quite a bit. Throttle response is quite good and of course no lag.

It's dumb. The car already doesn't make much torque, then it loses like 15% of what it does have for 1,000rpms. It's just annoying being in first gear and pinning the throttle, then get a small surge of power, then lose it, then gain it back while going through a single gear. I'd rather it be linear throughout-as most others on here do.

Some of the courses I drive are mid 3rd gear courses. Can't go into 2nd cause then you've already run out of gear and 4th isn't possible cause 160whp isn't all that much to begin with. Having that mid range torque back would make the car feel so much faster, even though, it wouldn't really be.

install a uel header brah

Don't like the sound. I prefer the Equal length sound. HKS equal length and full exhaust gives that sick, rasp tone similar to an SR.

I only like boxer sounding motors when there's a turbo bolted to it.

forzajuve 06-17-2013 03:35 PM

Yeah that has actually been my toss up for a while. I can't decide between EL or UEL. I like the EL sound, but sometimes it sounds a little to high pitched. If I could find an EL coupled with a throaty exhaust that would be nice.

The way it sounds when it pops the limiter makes me pop a chub

Agreed.. Especially painful for those who track the car.. Not being able to use a certain gear due to rpm rape.. Understandable..
It doesn't affect me too badly in daily driving.. Hopefully they develop a fix for it from the OEM.

BadMoon 06-17-2013 09:21 PM

Nothing I enjoy more right now than grabbing a beer when the family is sleeping and going out to the garage to wipe her down. The only problem with that is I find a new paint chip daily. :laughabove:

My understanding is that an Ecutek tune and some minor mods to exhaust will fix the torque dip issue and make the car more responsive.

this car really shines on the backroads.

bdanisi 06-19-2013 01:44 PM
