Removing Airbag Warning Stickers

Has anyone attempted to remove the horrid looking yellow red and black airbag warning stickers from their sun visors? I heard that a heat gun and some goo-gone afterwards has potential, but these suckers really seem to be tacked on there well. Just looking into whether its possible or not before I end up with some terrible looking visors or something.

Also, I have read that this is actually not illegal. Manufacturers are required to put them on and I think you might actually need them if you want to resell the vehicle at some point, but definitely not the same as cutting the tag on your mattress :w00t:

i plastidipped mine - easy and completely reversible. I think they're part of the visor itself, not stickers.

Oh, cool. What color did you plastidip them? Did you do anything else in the cabin?

When I checked the other day it seemed to me like they were similar to like an iron on sticker. Maybe not though.

Jimp 06-14-2013 05:44 PM

ouch, those replacements are pricey...

CBR600RR 06-14-2013 05:48 PM

I just used flat black vinyl to cover them

Cade01 06-14-2013 08:40 PM

People have removed them but not with good results. You are better off to just recover the whole visor, there is a DIY on how to properly take them apart to re-wrap them.

FRiSson 06-15-2013 12:52 AM

I don't notice them... you can too.

Same here. I used a sticky on one side, thin, flat black, wanna be felt on the other side piece to cover them up. It can be found at most craft stores.

DIY:Wrapping sun visors

I find this equivalent to a girl buying a brand new designer handbag just so she can hang it up in the closet, look at it every day in admiration, and use it practically never. AKA makes no sense to me.

To each his own, I suppose.

Do you feel this way because you don't use your visors or because its not an important piece?

I do use my visors, and I do see them as a (relatively) important and functional piece, but my comment above was specifically directed at the $200+ JPM coachworks set. For what it offers and what it costs, it is pretty extreme eye candy. Not doubting that it's made of quality materials or that the construction quality isn't superb.

I agree on cost vs. function, I use mine a lot but don't know if I could justify the cost. I was just curious.

i covered mine up with black fake carbon tape i had lying around.

Probably b/c you don't ever have sun in your face whenever you drive. Driving down I-10 eastbound every morning M-F, I constantly use my visor. Makes perfect sense to me. :iono:

True, you and others use it significantly more than I do, but does that warrant a $200 upgrade to add absolutely no extra functionality and only make the visors look a bit nicer? Genuinely curious.

I am all for visor upgrades and customization or even time-intensive DIYs like Jimp's since those become a product of your own work and customization, but throwing $200+ at it is just dubious to me. Then again, I could see someone who gets the JPM visors also having a number of other coachworks parts, none of which I'd go for. Maybe I just don't have enough disposable income. :iono:

My bad, I guess I misinterpreted your expensive handbag analogy. When you said it was like a girl buying an expensive hand bag just to hang up in the closet to admire, I took that to mean that he would never use the expensive visor.

Now if you compared the expensive bag and expensive visor as both being "hey look what I got" status symbols, then I would have related better!

Efferalgan 06-21-2013 05:02 AM

I was planning to put the Perrin's "Warning!" sticker on top of it - at least it has funny language in it like "This vehicle has been modified and require special driving skills - do not attempt to drive it unless you are able etc..." :) But unfortunately it's smaller than the stock one and does not cover it fully...

shaggy 06-21-2013 11:22 AM

What I did was buy a 6"x6" piece of vinyl from my local art supply store, cut it in half and glued it over the warning.

Found these. Didn't buy them, but gave me a chuckle:

Minimum octane 95? What's up with that?

gily25 06-21-2013 03:14 PM

There's a thread here of a member who covered his in a nice microfiber cloth, it walked through how to split the visor to tuck the fabric edges inside.

edit: I see it was already posted but I missed it - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ighlight=Visor

The coachworks ones look classy but do you take your visors off and send them to them for fitting? As posted above I use mine everyday so that's just weird...plus what if they don't send them back. DIY ftw.

CrazyWookiee 06-21-2013 03:35 PM

Yeah, it's a bit botched. Same with the Gross weight. 1670kg is like 3600lb's.

That's sticker is from Australia for sure: model name just "86", power in kilowatts and the RON petrol octane number (google it if want more details) - the one people use everywhere in the world except for the US and Canada :) You use so called AKI. RON 98 = 93-94 AKI.

Gross weight is maximum allowed weight of the vehicle if you load it with 4 fat people and some stuff in the trunk. Exceeding it is sort of illegal.

UPD: I just bought that sticker :)

You wouldn't happen to have pictures of how that turned out, would you? I tried to get the stickers off with little success, and that sounds like it might be a decent alternative to re-wrapping them.

it's a little less reflective than the picture may suggest. if any of my passengers noticed, nobody mentioned it.
