9-1 at Initial D meet. 2-6 at Wekfest. Seems like an even balance. Lol

denkigrve 06-13-2013 10:21 AM

EDIT: Fiance is NOT working Wekfest, so I'll likely Initial D meet it up since my AE86 pals will be there.

RC51ed 06-13-2013 11:40 AM

Wekfest is more of an import scene and initial d reunion seems like a relaxing time checking out cars. I think I would do the initial d reunion. I have a couple friends that model so it's not a big thing for me to check out young females in less clothing unless its at the beach😁. And the cars you see at wekfest are not always daily drivers so its easier reading about them in the magazines. It wouldn't inspire me to do something to my car if I don't see it as a daily driver. IMO.

dun3 06-13-2013 12:57 PM

Wekfest's line is going to be crazy long all day if it was like the years before.

spitz 06-13-2013 01:34 PM

I'll be taking the Z to Initial D meet. :)

Chee-Hu 06-13-2013 01:38 PM

WekFest brings out all the cars you'd normally read about in magazines as stated above. It's actually a much better experience seeing them in person. I've gone almost every year except for last year and always had a blast if you don't mind waiting in line. From what I remember, the Hondas outshined as there were of them in attendance than others. It could have changed though.

JohnAyySays 06-22-2013 01:38 AM

Looks like that Initial D meet looks pretty cool and chill, the meets that I enjoy going to. Maybe I'll head there if other forum members will go!

bump for the Inital D Reunion 2 meet on Saturday July 27 @ 9AM.

$7 admission. Go to 86DRIVE.com to get more info. So whoever wants to do a short drive, we can meet at Castro Valley Peet's on Redwood Rd. around 8AM and drive up Redwood > Pinehurst > Canyon Rd > Moraga.

post up here or in the DRIVE thread if you'll join us, either at the park or on the drive together to get there.

denkigrve 07-25-2013 12:34 PM

I'm not bothering with Wekfest, there is just too much else going on this weekend. I'll be at the Initial D meet though.

BigFatFlip 07-25-2013 12:49 PM

You forgot the NHRA Nationals at sonoma raceway! not trollin, just where I'm gonna be:D

mkiisupra 07-25-2013 12:57 PM

Which CV starbucks? Googl-riffic shows about four along the same stretch of Castro Valley. I would like to come along and check things out if I can get away in the morning. Wish the 'devil Z' (complete with "boom turbo") lookalike was ready... :(

To each their own. I'm not into 1/4 mile racing. :P Now if it was Indy you could bet your ass I'd be there instead. I'm kind of peeved that I'll be out of the country for this years Indy@Sonoma, flying out 3 days before it. The same goes for the WTCC@Sonoma. It's on the day I fly again.

dun3 07-25-2013 03:42 PM

I think drag racing is silly too, but those top fuel and funny car machines are EPIC!!!!! To see those things in person is craaaaaaaazy.

It takes almost 500HP just to turn the belt on a top fuel supercharger. They have no idea what kind of power the cars even make because there is no dyno strong enough, but most speculate it could be close to 10K HP. It's at least 8K. Mind blown yet? How about the fact it takes them almost 5 gallons of fuel to go 1/4 mile?

I've been around that stuff all my life. My dad is into stuff like that. He's probably partially to blame for my car obsession.

Interesting, Im leaning more towards the initial d meet. Wekfest is cool, my old friend ernesto runs the show. But it's too crowded and I feel I'm getting too old for that stuff.

oh I'm sorry brain fade... it's not Starbucks, it's the Peet's on Redwood Rd. Where we meet before all our Redwood Rd. drives. Exit 580 at Redwood Rd and head N towards Castro Valley Blvd. Peet's Coffee is at the intersection of Redwood and CV Blvd., in same shopping center as Safeway.

Arigato, mi amigo. I found out today that the half shafts (CV's) are actually custom lengths and cannot simply be replaced (or serviced) with simple tools. They have to be serviced at a reputable shop and the wicked Z is on the stands waiting futher input.

Ill be there with the FR-S...

Consider swapping in CV's from Wolf Creek Racing? :)

Yes, but at $700 a set, when there is only one boot torn, seems a bit extreme. And I am getting the car prepared for its next owner...

I'll join you for the drive from Castro Valley. See you at Peet's tomorrow morning.

PMok 07-27-2013 01:07 AM

OK see you guys at 8AM @ Peets CV. We'll roll out at 8:30! Remember to buy/bring food if you are going to hang out at the Initial D meet through lunchtime, they won't have food available it seems.

denkigrve 07-27-2013 04:11 PM

What the hell was with all of the drivers on the road today? Every car was tailgating me. Ugh.

Good seeing you guys, a short but fun drive to the meet. LOL I loved rolling slowly through the crowd when we arrived and seeing all the guys there just stop what they were doing and gawk at us.

More pics from the meet to come...
