Polo Gti or 86
Has anyone ever thought of having a polo gti insted of a 86? reasons being space, comfort, nice interior, CRUISE CONTROL... im only asking this question because im thinking of selling my car and getting a polo gti. any reasons why i shouldnt?
|
Your 86 doesn't come with cruise control?
I'm sure you'll get widely different opinions on here as opposed to a GTI forum. |
You mean a gen coupe r spec?
|
polo gti has a very uncomfortable driving position, steering wheel is of center, and no matter how high I've adjusted the steering cant get my clutch released, because my leg \ knee would press up against it, if i do adjust the seat all the way back and look out the rear passenger window, then only am i able to release the clutch properly. was very keen on buying one until i drove it

Hotted up hatchback vs. Sports Coupe...
FWD vs. RWD... Understeer vs. Oversteer... Boring vs. fun (albeit scary)... The 86 will teach you more about driving, no offense but you are a bit young to make a rash decision... Yes the Polo is more practical for taking your mates around, but the 86 will teach you to scare the hell out of your best mates! :barf: PS: Cruise control is for older people.. :bonk: |
If you have to ask then maybe the 86 is not for you. Get a Citi Golf with a 2.0 16 V motor and get it out of your system.

Sell sell sell !!!!

no cruise control in the std model.. Scarl3t im talking about the polo 6 with 7 speed dsg... Vic yes your right im young but that doesnt mean i cant drive lol cruise control for the long road only ofcoz. Was thinking about a citi golf but here in cape town its easy to steal so thats not an option..

I drove a polo GTi last week. A friend of mine just bought one.
It's got very nice power and lots of buttons on the steering, but it handles like shite. Apart from the power, I didn't care much for the drive. The 86 high spec comes with cruise control. Plus the polo isn't a head turner like the 86. If you want more speed, fit a UniQ(plug & play). You just unplug it when you take it in for a service. They can't detect that it was ever installed. |
IF you're not trolling, then you obviously don't get it.
Sell. Now. |

How many polo's do you see on a daily basis? How many 86's do you see? Maybe you like to blend in, I dont. |

IMO, just asking these questions makes the answer obvious. Enjoy your Polo. There's a forum member from Namibia who's battling to get a car. Maybe you can make today a special day for him... |

a) No b) No c) No d) No answer :bonk: Edit: sav beat me to it. Answer was "No" |
@Fish Eagle shucks... you thought of me. ;)
As was said - if you use a RWD sports coupe in the same sentence as a VW (of all things) hatch that's slightly warmed up, you probably bought the wrong car, mate... |
A friend of mine actually just changed his Polo GTI for an 86 :-)

That DSG box WILL fail. Maybe not right away, but trust me, it WILL fail.
Also, I've yet to drive a DSG gearbox that isn't nannydriven that isn't jerky and harsh. I've owned several, and driven many more. As soon as you start to drive that thing hard the learning factors and calibrations go to hell. A reset will bring smoothness back, but only until the next time you thrash it. Also, that 7speed is dryclutch, so make sure you drive it like a manual. Alway put it in neutral when stopped and stuff like that. So you might as well get a manual as far as convenience is concerned. The Polo is nice for a grannycar, but ultimately... a granny car. |

PS: We all think we can drive when we're 19... ;) lol :party0030: |

No FWD car can be compared to Hachiroku. But if you're still not sure , then .... .

[QUOTE=Vic_RSA;992650]Citi golf is a horrible retro box (and will get stolen!)... Golf Mk 2 was better in so many ways. What do you want from your car? To win at the drags, fuel efficiency, comfort, space, handling? The 86 is by far one of the best handling cars I've ever driven.
PS: We all think we can drive when we're 19... ;) lol yes to win drags... really the best handling car? my side no its the 3rd best handling maybe. thats the age wen you drive your best coz you do things on the limit;) |

Before you race out after a chip, why don't you ask Razzle what it has done to the car or what gains uniiQ has made. First item to get and possibly the best gains vs cost is either a performance DIF or CAI. Anything from 5 to 10 whp gain. You on the coast and will feel the difference immediately from what I'm told. |

methinks all your questions have been answered. but i feel somewhat obliged to give my 2 cents.
Dude is that even a question? polo or 86? you where taking the piss by asking the question? right? |
:dnftt: Ok, now that thst's been said.
I've stayed out of this one so far because I didnt think it really deserved an answer, but I may as well give my two cents. A mate of mine has a polo gti and it's a pretty cool little car. Amazing engine, cant believe that a 1.4 can perform like that. However, that being said we've had a few robot to robot dices and are neck and neck every time. I was very surprised the first time because he has launch control, dsg, turbo and supercaharger so especially up here, he should on paper smoke me. Im sure you guys at the coast would have them in a drag. So the polo really isnt quicker than an 86, neither is it more practical. The boot is probably smaller than ours or at least the same size (I havnt measured but im sure someone will tell me that im wrong.) there also isnt a huge amount of space in the back. So the only way the polo is more practical is that it has four doors. Not much of a deal breaker there. Lastly, the very fact that things have been raised like a 19yr old is the best driver because they test the limits of the car, pretty much speak for themselves. The first time I ice-skated I was the best because the skates went all over the place. Drive around a track with a professional to see what a car can really do (I garuantee, whatever you think is quick cornering will be shattered). To cut it short, if you don't want a rear wheel drive car that requires driver input to get the best from it then dont have one. Theres plenty of other cars out there and you need to be happy with what you drive. Who am I to judge someone in a pink Nissan Micra? (Even though I will) :happy0180: |
Well said, mate!

look here man i dno who started this driving thing dont come push things here. all i said was i could drive and that can clearly mean anything as to even poping to the shops and back. you suma come and say best driver please dont exaggerate things. and lastly i did go around kilarney with a professional not in my car tho in fathers old car, after i drove and he was next to me. I know how understeer and oversteer feels. |
