Sebring 6-8-13 Track Day
Shout out to all FR-S/BR-Z's that attended the Chin Motorsports Event this weekend...Dave, N_I_N, Smbstyle and Onealpha's silver BR-Z. Excellent driving and more importantly an increasing track day presence by our cars. MSILE needs to bring his FR-S next time...he brought the wrong Toyota!

Nice video.
The last time I was at Sebring at a Chin event was with an NSX. I bought the FR-S with the intent on tracking at Sebring. One of my concerns is the brakes on a big track. We're you on stock brakes? John |
No, I run Carbotech XP10's. But I ran my stock brakes the first time I took her out and they did just fine, just a little fade after 3-4 laps but nothing that wasn't manageable. Just can't run 9/10ths on stock for very long.

Yeah too bad the clutch took a crap in my ITR. Oh well.. next time.. with one car or the other lol

love the videos guys; i'll have to post up mine today. Also got some footage of a little tank-slapper at Turn 15. The stock tires are pretty horrific. Big thanks to Dave_ROR for letting me try out his Advans for the day, I really appreciate it.
Had a blast with the car, and did some testing with the @Touge Factory brake cooling kit. No noticeable difference with rotor temps after each session (which is probably due to me having to back off a bit with the cooling ducts blocked off), but a HUGE noticeable difference during the session with brake fade. I could run a session at 10/10ths with no fade on Hawk DTC-60's, but with the ducts blocked off, I would get fade on about lap 3. This is on stock rotors, stock lines. |

Thanks for the videos, I've enjoyed watching them. I wish Sebring was closer! |

Oh, and on the oil temp discussion issue; I bought a ScanGauge II to keep an eye on oil temps, as read by the ECU. Outside temps were about 90*f both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, I noticed oil temps creeped up to the 290s, and at the end of a session, it touched 300*. Then on the next day, temps hovered around the 280s and creeped up to 293* max. So oil temps on a bone stock car are definitely an issue, especially on a warm day. Just normal driving to and from the track in the morning/evening oil temps were between 213 and 220.
Here's the best I could do stock, including stock tires (only change is Hawk pads and brake cooling), a 2:48 lap: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiOCbmZ3u2E"]Stock BRZ at Sebring - 2:48 Lap - YouTube[/ame] Here you can see the tires going off pretty bad after 3 or 4 hard laps: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq5_lOPlNBc"]BRZ at Sebring sliding around - YouTube[/ame] ....And the following lap 5 in Turn 15; a little tank slapper! Those oil temps are pretty damn high.... |

Yeah without the Scangauge I'd have no idea the car was running that hot; water temp was solid all day. I'm wondering first, where the stock gauge is reading from, and if that has any bearing on it. But an oil cooler is definitely on the list. |

wow nice spin :) not the nicest place to spin though...

Thanks fldoc, smbstyle, and Amalgamo for the video. I will post some video later also. I am sorry I did not get to meet any of you guys. The whole day just flew by. After each session I kept thinking I would have time to walk around and visit, but there was always something that had to be done before the next session. Before I knew it the day was over and I was driving home exhausted with a big smile on my face. My instructor was fldoc and he did a great job of showing me the ropes. A big thank you fldoc. It was a really nice day and thank God the rain held off as long as it did.
|
You were a great student. Let's see you back out in August and we'll get you flying around Turn 5!

Eh, I could think of worse places, lol. The slide started before the apex of 15, so the momentum carried me outward. Most of the incidents at 15 that result in wall contact the spin is induced after the apex, hitting the inside wall. Tires were going off the lap before real bad, and I thought I could maybe get another out of them before giving up, but I guess I was wrong!! |

Certainly worse places to spin at sebring. Spins in general at sebring I find fairly safe, it's losing brakes and trying to save something too late that's really bad :) |

Thanks fldoc,
Here are a few video's from the first afternoon session. -------------------------------------------------------- [ame]http://youtu.be/hgh3GoOAWpU[/ame] -------------------------------------------------------- [ame]http://youtu.be/UvZtmJ7P--8[/ame] -------------------------------------------------------- At the 1:59 mark you will see Amalgamo pass me. Good to see that the brakes semi-held up. XP12 should be a better setup for your car. Are you looking into the BBK setup eventually?

Here's my video...

FYI...posted this in SE Track Resources but wanted to attach to this thread because most of you guys might be interested...
Just signed up for a track event at Palm Beach International Raceway with PCA on Saturday July 20. The event runs from about noon to 10 PM and dinner is included in the price. Solo drivers will drive at night under the lights and students during the daylight hours. Nighttime driving is cool during the summer months... |
