Megan Racing's 5x100 Hub Conversion to 5x114.3
1 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone,
I searched the site for this and nothing came up so, i wanted to let you guys know that Megan Racing has released a 5x100 to 5x114.3 Hub Conversion kit for the FR-S/BRZ. This kit is available for the price of $750, i wish i would have waited for this conversion kit it.but oh well. I just wanted to share this with my fellow forum members, link is below. Also i love the fact that they engraved on the hub adds a nice touch. http://www.meganracing.com/products/...=1580&catid=97 |
Very nice. Seems a little expensive but I assume that is MSRP....
|
Megan Racing - the same company that makes budget coilovers?
I think I'll pass... |

Hardrace Hubs http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...71620228_n.jpg Look like the same thing with different engravings. |
Hardrace is Taiwan based so im sure they're just rebranded Megan here in America
|
Megan racing... no. This is pretty unnecessary as many companies make wheels in 5x100 for this car.
|
Yeah, I'm thinking about running these so I can try out some LFA wheels :) Separate post about it somewhere here.

We explored this option back when we were thinking about getting an FR-S. While there are a lot of 5x100 wheels out there, there are infinitely more 5x114.3 wheels with aggressive offsets.
For us, it would have been nice to be able to share wheels between the FRS and our shop s2000s. We already had 7 sets of 5x114.3 wheels - would have been nice to be able to use them. That being said, we have moved on with the 5x100 setup and haven't had any issues. We've even got a set of dual drilled (5x100 and 5x114.3) wheels to share between the s2000s and FRS. :) |
I think I'd trust the Project Kics adapter spacers before trusting Megan bearings.

Those things are the Hardrace hubs with a different engraving, plain and simple. Megan Racing doesn't have the resources to engineer and develop something like this.
If they are cheaper with a Megan Racing logo engraved on them, then so be it. |
haha gotta love the internet,
Good to see more options available if this even counts |

Wheel bearings and hubs, as an example, are very simplistic things when you look at how they are assembled. As long as everything is properly manufactured within spec, you won't have normal issues. The main point to consider is the company selling them: do they have a warranty? What type? How reliable is the brand? Because in the end, if something happens you have to claim warranty with Megan, not anyone else. Same with the other Hardrace hubs. Are you really going to buy something from Taiwan and then claim warranty with them, in Taiwan? YMMV. -alex |
Has anyone actually bitten the bullet and gotten these? Interested to hear feedback.
I don't agree with the 'abundance' of 5 x 100 wheels choices. In NZ we have such an abundance of anything jdm due to our lax import laws from Japan; that have since been tightened up. Any set of wheels new I price up are about $1500 landed for rota's, about $2500 for enkeis, and over $4k for anything that I'd call decent. Yet those same wheels can be found second hand locally for well under $2k, sometimes under $1k. The catch? They're all 5x114.3. It's just the initial cost of these hubs that are making me hesitate. But even costing them in, it still seems worth it. It'll also make it far easier to sell wheels and change. 5x100 wheels will never be popular here. |
The fact of the matter is that 5x114.3 wheels are going to be a much more popular option, especially used. I think a lot of manufacturers of wheels started to make a few more options in 5x100 with the anticipation of the FR-S/BRZ, but for those that want to swap wheels frequently or are into buying used wheels, 5x114.3 is the way to go.
|
Agree. 5x100 wheels are never going to become common in NZ, ever. The cars that run them aren't popular, and 86's are never going to common, especially when they cost $45k and the average salary would only be that. I know in Christchurch there's 400,000 people and they've only sold about 20 86's.

whoa, holy threadbump.
at any rate, is there a reason why you can't just redrill the fronts to fit? |

The selection of high quality wheels in 5x100 is awesome today.
Why don't poor people just buy more money? |

year or so back knsbrakes had sent me the wrong pattern sti rotor, didn't notice till the day they were going on, drill press, punch set, good bits and a rotor with the correct pattern to use as a template, problem solved. |

especially since redrilling is suggested for the rear brakes if you don't want to go aftermarket |
You don't just redrill brakes to get a new hub pattern.
That's why there are things like the hub conversion kit on the market. |

(or in other words, why are we changing calipers at all?) |

My only concern is the stock rotors have small threaded holes (for the rotors to be backed out when stuck to hub). See here: http://i.imgur.com/eZMOXR2.jpg As long as the 5x114.3mm holes are drilled properly and not too close to the existing holes, you should be fine. Print out a template of 5x114.3mm and see how it overlays with the rotors to be safe. Quote:
And by the way: It's perfectly safe if you have enough material on the rotor hat, even wheels. See: every 9x114.3mm/9x100mm and dual bolt pattern wheel ever made. -alex |

Just emailed Megan the other day about these hubs, and they mentioned that they're not on the market at the moment for some reason. They didn't have a date as to when they'd be available again either.
|
Has anyone tried this setup yet? I am very tempted to go for it, just a little confused on what needs to be done. Do i need to new brakes?
|
Anyone know of someone running these yet? I know I saw one guy on Instagram running some 5x114.3 hubs but I am not sure what they were. Also do you know of anyone selling them other than Megan Racing? I swear I saw them for like $600.00 somewhere.
|
Hard Race is the other brand but since they look similar to the Megan ones they're probably from the same manufacturer. I forget which one I heard through the rumor mill was having problems with the bearings.
There's a shop in Japan that modifies your stock knuckle to accomodate a different hub (Legac, R32,etc) so I'm sure it's possible if you find a good fabricator. |

Megan list their 114.3 front and rear hubs as 145mm in diameter, whereas the external diameter of the hub part of the front rotor is 139mm (see image below). The insides got to be smaller so the hubs aint going to fit. The same measurement on the rear rotors is about 200mm so if they are redrilled, the hubs will fit inside |
Do I also need to new brakes using this kit?
Thanks. |
I have been running for just under a year all is good

You can re-drill the rear rotor and it will fit fine The front you "will" need to change the calipers and rotors because the stock front rotors cannot fit into the Megan/hardace hubs( 145mm diameters of the hub as mentioned) cause its too small making it physically impossible to retro fit with our front rotors with them (139mm hub diameter) The OP has mentioned a few methods and i think the legacy 2012+ front brake kit is your cheapest bet if your keen |
