Convince me to wait on the 2014 model details

I am tired of driving a raggedy car, I have been waiting 6 months to buy this car. I feel like crap. I don't know if I can make it another month. Thinking about running to the dealership and buying the first fr-s I see. HELP!

thill 06-06-2013 01:34 PM

I don't really see the point in waiting. I seriously doubt the 14's will be much different and you are probably not going to be able to get one for another 4+ months depending on allocation.

I was waiting for a discount and the touchscreen that will come standard (hopefully)

BlueSTaR 06-06-2013 01:41 PM

Resale value will be a little higher?

dro 06-06-2013 01:49 PM

Well you guys aren't convincing me lol

civdaddy 06-06-2013 01:59 PM

I don't think anything is worth waiting for really.

+1 :)

Time to put the big boy pants on and make a decision for yourself. If you want the car, just buy it. Nothing exciting is going to happen for 2014.

Ryuu0u 06-06-2013 02:19 PM

Just buy it now like everyone said. No use really unless you want the special tron-wannabe edition.

BlueSTaR 06-06-2013 02:20 PM

Also, if you buy a 2013, you'll always have an "Original"

continuecrushing 06-06-2013 02:24 PM

sounds like you should just buy it...

BlueSTaR 06-06-2013 02:25 PM

Also won't 2014 just be more expensive?

Discount? If anything the price could go up on the 2014. If the touchscreen is anything like the BRZ touchscreen nav unit, I would recommend getting the current Pioneer deck and going aftermarket.

Wilsonk227 06-06-2013 02:28 PM

i say wait. There will probably be slight fixes for any small issues that they find. Like a bug fix on a patched up software.

-2014 will have new audio
-2014 will have higher resale due to that number "14" instead of "13" even if you drive off a 13 a month before, people will look at it like it's a year older :/
-2014 IS just around the corner

DeeezNuuuts83 06-06-2013 02:36 PM

If you're holding out for a better head unit or touch screen, just pay a little extra for a BRZ Premium.

BakaFT86 06-06-2013 02:41 PM

I'm waiting for the 14. I've been dreaming of buying this car since 2011. The 14 could have minor tweaks to it that fixes the first year issues they weren't aware of when they released the car. If you're in no rush why not wait?

For me I have a perfectly fine 2010 Mazda 3 that is paid off. I can go a few more months with no payments on a car. Its nice.. I hate my mazda 3 though. It has no spirit.

hanabie 06-06-2013 02:42 PM

my car is coming next week, but the wait feels like crap. I bought some parts and really hope nothing will screw up during the process and the delivery. :(

DeeezNuuuts83 06-06-2013 02:43 PM

Did that have the Skyactiv motor? Or was that the following year?

Fyi, potential issues are usually being worked on around the clock. I would not buy products from the factory that works on issues after a year or two.

However, solving the issues is another story.

When there is a solution found, they fix the current batch right away before getting to the customers' hands. If it's too late, I would not worry too much. I would just bring the car to the dealership to get it fixed. Still, I hope it is not an engine failure. That would suck.

Have you ever heard of this? Sometimes when solving an issue, it is creating another issue or maybe more..
So to answer your question, I would not wait if I were you.

This is overwhelmingly my opinion, except the OEM base stereo is perfectly adequate and I have zero complaints.

Add in that any "fixes" should be performed by the dealer under warranty there's no reason to wait. The only caution I would give is if you're planning to track it be aware of the injector seals failing.

From what I have read the Bespoke touchscreen upgrade option in the FR-S is pretty crappy. If Scion makes that the standard unit, it may not really be viewed as an upgrade and you will most likely pay more.

Higher resale value is true, but it depends also how much the price goes up on the 14's and you also have to look at interest rates which are showing signs of creeping back up. On a $25K loan for instance, 1% point on interest is about 11 per month difference. Across 60 months that is close to $700 more in payments.

And right around the corner could easily be 4-6+ months for folks depending on where you live and allocation. That said, if you wait you might score a better deal on a 2013 and Toyota may offer finance incentives on the 13 models to help clear them out.

Just depends on how long one can wait to buy. If 4-6+ months is not a long wait then go for it. But it is not like you are going to get a drastically different car by waiting and that is 4-6+ months you wont be driving the FR-S :)

Get the 13 if you can find a good deal on it...if not, wait for the 2014.

rxpx2012 06-06-2013 03:33 PM

If you have to be talked into doing something, then you probably shouldn't.

Best time to buy a new car is at the end of the model year. Towards the end of the year ... the dealerships will do anything to sell the remaining 2013 cars. The 2014 will be essentially the same car. My vote .... wait. Go for a deal on a 2013 .... if it doesn't work ..... grab a 2014. Only issue .... when is the 2014MY going to arrive at the dealerships?

I kinda think everyone hoping for slight improvements and fixes are kind of fooling them selves. Since the pre-order is already out I'm guessing the later production models of 2013 is pretty much what you're getting for 2014. Same poop different color.

CAMBAM_6 06-06-2013 04:30 PM

You might not have to worry about the "chirp" in 2014

bebopblues 06-06-2013 04:31 PM

I would wait since its only a few months.

That may not work for the FRS because those cars dont tend to sit on the lot like the other models, atleast not at this point and time..they sell before the get to the lot, or very soon after

Celica00 06-06-2013 04:32 PM

if you really want to wait. then wait for the 2015 or 16 model. other than that. just buy one dammit

Lonewolf 06-06-2013 04:42 PM

The only two things we know about 2014:

1) New standard touchscreen radio

2) The tsb's and line fixes for the 2013 MY will already be integrated into your car (less hassles and hiccups for you)

zoomzoomers 06-06-2013 04:45 PM

Why not wait for the '15 model?

IntotheOcean 06-06-2013 04:50 PM

I'm waiting too, but that's mainly because I'm still a total noob at stick.
Also I want the bugs to be fixed, and Ill have a few extra bucks for some cosmetic mods...as for touch display, Aftermarket upgrade is you're best bet. Trust me on that :)

naikaidriver 06-06-2013 04:59 PM

ugh! This is such an emo, drama-thread.

Jond63 06-06-2013 05:08 PM

Don't forget about the rear view camera in the '14!

(but I would just get one now, like I did)

Mikem53 06-06-2013 05:24 PM

You're missing out on a fab car! Get one and start having fun !!!

OEMs do running changes, they may add new items and features for a new year, but fixes happen during any model year.
The car was introduced in 2011. Production started in Feb, so that's already a year and 4 months. If you look at The TSBs you see the changes to production and the dates whitch occur throughout the year.
No need to wait.. Unless you want to pay a bit more and possibly get a new radio. As far as resale value goes it won't matter much if its 13 or 14.. Mileage will make the difference, not the year unless there are more desirable options between years. Besides.. They are rare right now.. And you get to be all jacked and cool.. People will look at you.. Your car actually..
