Stock AISSIN Transmission Power Capacity

How much do you think a stock trans will hold before you shear third gear?

I'm guessing a few whp less than what you just put down, or were in the process of putting down :iono:

When it went pop was it a very noticeable sound? We're you just driving it around or did it pop under hard acceleration? If it was to much torque wouldn't 1st or 2nd popped first before 3rd?

I guess he can't put the power down on 1 n 2 so that saves them a bit

Spartan65 06-05-2013 02:38 PM

Here is the Aisin transmission page, I am not sure which one the MT is. I think it may be the AZ6?aisin

SmsAlSuwaidi 06-05-2013 02:44 PM

@Don@Accelerated its time for a v160/161 :) please continue working with an MT and non of the power glides or similar ATs

Don@Accelerated 06-05-2013 03:32 PM

I've luckily got a 5spd transmission. We've got one going in a customer car. If it works out well enough I'll make another for my car!

R154 by any chance ?

ft_sjo 06-05-2013 04:06 PM

Who cares? Transmissions are rated by torque, not power.

SkullWorks 06-05-2013 04:10 PM

well this ended up being a waste thanks.

lets see what did we cover here....

oh yeah nothing,

"hey guys i broke the transmission...nope sorry not gonna tell you anything else, just want to stir the pot...k thanks bye"

based on the pictures, and the one posted here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scion-FR-S-6...61213927993%26

it would be the very bottom one.

Nice timing, this was my Saturday after an event in the mx5. Lost 6th on a pull and drove 60 miles with only 1st, some of second and third, and 5th. 6 speed, nearly same trans as an rx8. Aisin unit. About 400 tq for me.

usptwins 06-05-2013 06:08 PM

Who cares what trans it is??? WTF? If its the R154, that thing can hold a hell of a lot of power/torque. Its pretty much another powerhouse trans in stock form. Now if you don't know anything else, think about this, people use this trans that do rock crawling, other MKIV supra builds that went from NA to NA-t/NA-TT. These babies have been known to hold 700whp no prob.

DoctorNick 06-05-2013 06:14 PM

Marlin Crawler 5MT eh?

So whats the fkn story here? Reminds me of these 15 years old girl on instagram posing in bra with big boobs you want to see them u know its wrong and they wont show them, just a bunch of tease

Coheed 06-05-2013 09:31 PM

This tranny will hold 400lbft based on gear size and vehicle weight. I have a lot of experience with nearly identical transmissions and vehicles. But even 400lbft will eventually fatigue and break this transmission. 4th-6th are weakest. 3rd does look decently beefy though. But big torque will break these over time.

A few years from now, we'll be reading about everyone's transmission woes. lol.

lol just like the S15.

Lets all start the story now: the Zn6/Zc6 have glass gearboxes. Replace them with S14 5speed for the best result in holding the most power!

Yep, great service to the community this thread is!!! So far, the only info I've been able to gather from the thread is an estimate of when an MX5 tranny will go (we got great info of that one thanks to moto-mike, as he even detailed what he was doing while it went). As far as ours, well I am just as uninformed as I was before.

Power level, drivetrain work, tires, conditions would be helpful information in conjunction with the blown gear instead of this waste of a thread so far. I think I know why don and jv get along so well, 2 peas in a pod.

Nope, buying it did not make you a douche-bag. Bragging about it indirectly here does :D
