Who else will be using their FRS as a second car?

I've been debating on keeping my 300ZX for months now. I sold my RX-8, bought the 300ZX as a temporary car, and planned on selling it for the FRS. Well now I'm actually debating on keeping my Z for my daily driver and keeping my FRS for the good weather and weekends.

My Z is beautiful. I have owned 11 cars now and this is my second 300ZX. The one I own is only one or 103 made in this color, and only 53 in this color were manual transmission (cocoa bronze - color). This car is worth money and was going to be used as some of my downpayment towards my FRS. I keep putting money into this thing tho (even got my new wheels for the Z in the mail today).
I'd really hate to see it go, but have been all over this FRS for a while now.

I guess my main question is, who else is planning on getting the FRS as a second project/weekend car? Love to hear your stories.

It will probably my be #1 car but when the weather is crappy I'll drive my 91 corolla till I get something a little nicer. I'll probably sell my S14 but the GSXR 750 isn't going anywhere. I want to keep the S14 and make it a full track car but the 5k I can probably get for it would make a nice down payment.

Yeah I could probably get 4k for my Z but then I'd be stuck driving the FRS in the snow. Almost thought about selling the Z, buying an old $2k AWD Subaru, and use some cash down on the FRS.

I have always wanted a nice S15 to tho :P

I have my turbo Integra that I am keeping and my 09 GSX-R 600. The FRS will be my daily driver/track day car.

Zaku 02-21-2012 07:32 PM

If I still work for the same people that I do now I'll have a work car this Forester, but if I'm working for someone else I'll only have the BRZ. It is still up in the air for me.

SUB-FT86 02-21-2012 08:45 PM

It will be my only one. The RSX will be sold and since I don't have kids nor do I want them the FR-S is perfect as my only car.

Stryker Trailwood 02-21-2012 11:04 PM

If i get an FR-S it will not be my only car.
I will only use it for fun and when the weather is nice.

SunnyD 02-21-2012 11:15 PM

Getting rid of the xD and getting the FR-S. It will be my only car

haha im doing the exact mirror of what your doing lol. I am planning on keeping my Z since its paid off and using the FRS as my DD

If the Z is rare, and it may be worth money, then you don't really want to be driving it in the snow either. If it means that much to you maybe you should put it up in storage and get a beater winter car/truck. Save up and later get the FR-S/BRZ.

I thought about it actually, but it has some hail damage from the last owner and high miles. I'll probably keep it in the garage if I keep it, or like I said I may even buy an older AWD Subaru for the winters. It's hard to decide but I don't want to get rid of the Z nor do I need three cars (FRS, 300ZX, and an older Subaru).

alan.chalkley 02-22-2012 09:24 AM

My family has two auto camrys one manual corolla and one manual suzuki swift and I find driving these with their electronic nanny systems as boring as cleaning the kitchen.
It would be fun to drive a BRZ/ft86 and I would have to trade in one of our cars and need to decide which one.
Anyway , it is going to be a long time before BRZ/ft86 arrive down under in Australia.

FRSpdDmn 02-22-2012 11:29 AM

OP: Sell the Z and get snows for the FR-S.

This will be a 4th car for me, but it will be my primary daily driver. My Tundra will then be used for only towing or crappy weather if I don't want to drive the FR-S. Unfortunately, with the race car and the 19k mi Fiero in the garage, the FR-S will have to live outside.

TRDGT86 02-22-2012 12:25 PM

my 86 will be my daily driver, my weekend vehicle is SC430

thatautoblog.blogspot.com 02-22-2012 12:28 PM

The FR-S will definitely be my daily!

My 300ZX is the N/A model so it doesn't have any potential to be much quicker. My FRS would be my little street/track project to dump some money into and make quicker.

I would absolutely miss my 300ZX if I tried to sell it, unless I moved onto the Twin Turbo, but then id have no desire to drive it in bad weather. After selling my other 300ZX and going to that RX8, long story short, I had realized I made a huge mistake.

We shall see. I do enjoy hearing everyone else's plans tho

Tainen 02-22-2012 04:45 PM

my 2003 WRX will be my daily driver. The BRZ will be my weekend/track car. I'll keep low miles on it and have fun wrenching on it.

no need to sell the WRX. it's been paid off forever, and at 126k miles... well, it's not worth much anymore. More practical for daily driving, since it's got 4 doors, AWD, etc.
funny though, that it will be far faster and more capable than the BRZ. :) she's stage 2 with a ton of other bolt ons.

Now thats a fun daily

SpeedR 02-22-2012 05:03 PM

I am keeping my Supra and going to daily the FR-S.

delongedoug 02-22-2012 05:06 PM

BRZ will replace track Evo. Whether or not it will be tracked is another question, but it will be my second car to my 2.5RS daily.

I'm in a similar situation as I have a FXT as a daily driver that's paid off and the BRZ would be my weekend car to work on and drive on the weekends.

I've keep the FXT pretty much stock for reliability I'll throw bolt-ons the BRZ though.

I also have a sr20det 240sx which i'm not sure what do with it.

Jealous of your wealth (noting your below stable of cars for 2011):mad0259:

SoCal_86 02-23-2012 01:20 AM

The FRS will be my daily driver. I plan to keep the ae86:wub: for the weekends and hopefully hand it down to my son.

_hollywood 02-23-2012 01:22 AM

Silverado will finally sit till winter, frs everyday until snow again.....

Cant wait for 30 mpgs

Godzilla 02-23-2012 04:07 AM

If I end up one, I will use as DD.

blacknbean 02-23-2012 04:15 AM

335 will be my DD, brz will be my track/weekend warrior or whenever the f i feel like really driving!

Hanzo 02-23-2012 08:04 AM

Not a FR-S but my BRZ will be a weekend car. My daily will still be a Honda Fit.

S2kphile 02-23-2012 09:25 AM

BRz will be a daily and my TACO for heavy duty. 25-30mpg vs. 15-22mpg

maxeveland 02-23-2012 11:31 AM

if i can get enough for a trade in, then it will be my only car, but it will still be the first

Quentin 02-23-2012 12:52 PM

Since I have to wait until sometime in '14, we'll drive the '12 Prius v most of the time, '10 4Runner when the weather or terrain is bad, and the FR-S will be my daily driver when I don't have the kiddo with me. Not sure if we'll keep the MINI around or let it go. I might have to add a parking spot off to the side of my driveway if we have 4 cars. 3 usually isn't a problem.

Bristecom 02-27-2012 02:40 AM

I couldn't part with my Eclipse GSX. It's inconvenient and expensive having two cars but I suppose I could justify it by using the GSX (all-wheel-drive) in the winter/snow (although we don't get much snow here typically).

bestwheelbase 02-27-2012 03:10 AM

Every time I have bought a car for "weekend use" it has ended up becoming a daily driver because I can't stand to see it just sit there. So this time I am going to ditch the current car when I pickup an FRS or BRZ. I am committed to joyful driving seven days a week!

trueno86power 02-27-2012 08:41 AM

My FR-S will be my summer car, I'll it use all summer long. My present car, '05 Corolla XRS will be my winter car. Don't want to sell this car, they are rare but no body know it... so they don't have a lot of value.

It was my track car so maybe I'll put some OEM parts back or maybe not :P

Baby Gorilla 02-27-2012 10:11 AM

I'm getting the FR-S for my wife as her second/fun car. I will drive it occasionally and would love to take it to the track to see how it does there.

brufleth 02-27-2012 11:27 AM

Trading in my wife's 05 Legacy (neither of us like it) and she'll be driving my WRX while I DD the BRZ. That is, if I actually like the BRZ when I test drive it.

Mitchs_86 02-28-2012 10:53 AM

I'll be trading in my 08 TT coupe, the BR-Z will be used as a weekend car, and will continue to use my 08 Saab 9-7x Aero as I'm doing with the TT.
