Gas preferences

I know to use premium gas. But what I was wondering what company do you best like bp,speedway, shell etc.

wheelhaus 06-04-2013 09:27 PM

I like Shell. It seems I get more consistent performance/mileage than I have with other brands.

ScionFrsFan 06-04-2013 09:38 PM

bp...only one around where I don't get crickets.

Cade01 06-04-2013 09:38 PM

I usually get fuel at Costco, it does well and is usually cheaper than anywhere else.

Nevermore 06-04-2013 09:41 PM

Speedway, since I have the card. Ironically never used the points for anything. I want to try that Shell V-Power, but Speedway recently bought just about every gas station in my town so it's hard to find any other brand.

EK_Golfer 06-04-2013 09:48 PM

Chevron has been giving me better mileage than Shell (about 1 mpg more) so I've been sticking with them.

Carlitoz3 06-04-2013 09:52 PM

COSTCO!

RIPTRD71 06-04-2013 10:08 PM

Flying J truck stop for me.

Black Tire 06-04-2013 10:31 PM

BP

Because it is the only station in my area that has 93 octane.

shirker 06-04-2013 10:42 PM

The cheapest I can find on GasBuddy

Mister 06-04-2013 10:45 PM

I never go out of my way for a particular gas station, but if a Shell is on the way I typically go there. I have no good reason for it other then V-Power sounds bad-ass, the car drinks all of it just fine.

FRSTRM 06-04-2013 10:49 PM

Sunoco/Shell/Hess/BP/Marathon/Sheetz

Bt216 06-04-2013 10:56 PM

Shell

Barbarian 06-04-2013 10:59 PM

I like to go to the ethanol free Pure station nearby, but it's pricey

nonicname 06-04-2013 11:11 PM

Shell all the way. gets me the best power and WAY better fuel economy than anything else. my second choice is BP but still doesn't compare to shell.

strat61caster 06-04-2013 11:55 PM

Arco is cheapest, which is bp as mentioned above.

Also the quietest when it comes to crickets.

Jimp 06-04-2013 11:56 PM

Shell is proven to have better gas than BP, Sunoco, and Speedway here in Ohio so when I have the option that's usually what I go with.

jstans84 06-05-2013 12:11 AM

QuikTrip is the only gas I use when I have the choice.

m.wood0213 06-05-2013 12:32 AM

qt but honestly whatever station is new they has less crud in the stations tanks.

DeeezNuuuts83 06-05-2013 01:48 AM

For my Evo, I've used Shell at least 95% of the time, with Chevron pretty much accounting for the rest. I used Sam's Club fuel once, just to see if I noticed any differences.

Did you notice a difference though? Curious :bonk:

Low&Slow 06-05-2013 05:16 AM

I fuel up at Cheveron most of the time. If not Shell! Not too many great gas stations around where i live in California.

virobloc 06-05-2013 07:14 AM

I always go to Repsol stations.
Off topic: Is 93 the highest octanage available in the USA? Is there any (relatively easy) way to get 98 octane gasoline in the USA?

roddy 06-05-2013 07:29 AM

I use either Petro Canada (formerly Sunoco) Ultra 94 or Shell 91. In my area Shell premium has no ethanol...this may not be the case in all areas. The PC 94 has "up to" 10% ethanol. The car seems to run a little better on the 94, but I get better mileage and no crickets with the ethanol free 91. Tough choice.

FRiSson 06-05-2013 10:46 AM

You should check out the site:

http://www.toptiergas.com/

BTW: I wouldn't give any credibility to claims of one brand giving higher MPG. If some additive actually does give higher mpg, its likely to be a tiny one.

Raven604 06-05-2013 10:48 AM

I've never put anything but chevron 94 ethanol free Gas in my baby

5th 86 06-05-2013 10:56 AM

I could totally tell petro 94 gave wayless mpg then Shell or esso but provided a tiny power advantage over the 91 from them. But i get crickets from petro 94, so i stick with shell if i can, which is a tiny bit better then esso.

Not really, though admittedly that tank of Sam's Club premium (assuming that is the one you're asking about) is the only one I've gotten from them so far, plus I just drove normally without really pushing the car much. I think I boosted once or twice, but it didn't seem to accelerate any differently.

Ghost 86 06-05-2013 11:02 AM

In my evo I used shell since my first fill up. Same thing with the frs but the toyota dealer filled the frs up with vpower since its next to the dealer

CSI:86 06-05-2013 11:02 AM

BP Ultimate 98 RON

What BP petrol is there in the states?

In australia, we have 91RON BP E10 (10% Ethanol), 95RON BP Premium (3-4% Ethanol) and 98RON BP Ultimate (0% Ethanol).

Jertronic 06-05-2013 11:06 AM

I have always followed the creed of Shell, BP, Chevron as the premium major players. For me, Shell V Power 93 goes into my 328 most of the time. BP has spotty prevalence in my area so I get to choose it ~ 10% of the time. I have yet to use Chevron as it doesn't exist in my area.

I plan on following the same protocol for the series 10 FR-S.

The level of refinement, literally, as well as the additives is what makes the gasolines preferred. Nitrogen enriched for Shell, Invigorate for BP, and Techron for Chevron.

Techron is available as a stand alone fuel injector cleaner additive product.

thill 06-05-2013 11:08 AM

Sams Club is the closest and cheapest to my house for premium so I usually use them. I like Shell and Chevron, but neither are convenient usually.

Ryuu0u 06-05-2013 11:14 AM

Sometimes Sam's club/Costco is more expensive than some of the chain gas stations. I just stick with any gas station that doesn't look like it's run down and actually has a recognizable name. I have yet to do a fill up on my car but will most likely be 93 or 91 octane.

Books 06-05-2013 11:16 AM

The only good (ie Top tier) gas stations near me are Shell and Mobil, so either of those. Shell is expensive, but it makes my car happy.

Yeah it's funny. For regular Sams and Costco by me (I use Gas Buddy) is usually 5 cents or more cheaper than anyone else local. But Premium sometimes is and is not the cheapest there. BP is sometimes the same price or cheaper. Sams is the closest gas station to me and Chevron and Shell (which I prefer) are way out of the way.

Sams gas seems pretty good. I have used it for years and have not noticed any performance decrease. I have noticed that I get slightly better mpg sometimes with Chevron and Shell.

D4S 06-05-2013 11:52 AM

Shell V-Power.

HotLeopardMama 06-05-2013 03:47 PM

Most Often Shell 91, but basically just never Arco or Costco. In order of Preference? Shell, Chevron, 76, Mobil, I guess.

HunterGreene 06-05-2013 03:55 PM

GetGo (cheaper) or BP usually. the Shell station I go by is closer to the freeway, so they jack up their prices. That and they charge more for v-power there.

There are places where you can get higher than 93 (sunoco still sells 94 in some places), but by and large, 93 is the highest you can go outside of a race course.

My preference is about the same, though it's partially because there is a Shell station near my office that has some of the best prices for premium in Orange County that I've seen.

I wouldn't mind Costco or Sam's Club gas, though like I said before, I rarely go there, having only filled up their once. But I avoid Arco regardless, no matter what car I'm driving, whether it's my Evo or my girlfriend's Corolla.
