Stall in high G turn/oversteer spin
Last night I was doing some drifting in the rain in a parking lot and several times when I'd give it too much gas in the turn it'd oversteer and spin out and then stall. Started back up fine so I was thinking it was a sensor somewhere detecting something and shutting it down...
FRS Auto and I was driving with stability and trac off in sport mode. Anyone had this happen to them or know if this is a safety feature or something??? |

How much fuel is in the tank? |

u essentially pit maneuvered urself (i did it in my old Accord once). cops hit the rear of ur car to spin u out b/c when it happens ur wheels backspin a bit and it causes the car to shut off to prevent damage from being in a forward gear while the wheels spin in reverse. nothing is wrong, cars are programed to do this
|
In other words, switch to neutral when car spins out to prevent stall (but you wouldnt want to do that)

Agreed with some of the responses above, but remember he's in an AT.
When an unrecoverable spin begins to happen in an MT, you must clutch-in when the car spins to prevent the tires from rotating backward while in a forward gear. You must hold the clutch in until stopped or at least facing the direction of travel. However since you have an auto, I'm not sure what should happen here other than smacking the shifter to "N"... This is not going to be instinctive for auto drivers who aren't used to constantly fondling the shifter. I think one of three things happened: 1- The ECU may have thought you were in an accident condition and shut off the fuel pump, but with as many poeple as we have trying to be king dorifto, I'd expect we'd hear about this happening more often. 2- You may have instinctively stepped on the brake when you spun out, which makes it extremely easy to lock up the wheels, and the engine died because it was still "in gear" and forced to stop rotating. 3- as you were spinning, the car will monentarily travel backwards, and a sudden reversal of wheel rotation may have forced the engine to stop. |
Likely the torque converter was still locked, so the engine stalled because the wheels stopped spinning/went backwards. Not much you can do besides staying on the power or not spinning the car. With a manual you'd have the option of using the clutch to prevent the engine from stalling.

From what I remember the auto has the same plus a useless snow button. Could be wrong on the auto since I spent as little time as possible in the auto. But like others have said if he spun that tightly it most likely caused the inside tire to spin backwards.... |
The manual does have a sport mode which allows you a little less intervention from the nannies, I'd use it on canyon runs hence it does allow the tail to kick out, but would correct it if it's too much.

I have generally experienced stalls in bad spins with several cars. I drive MT cars and usually am on the clutch and brake immediately. Still stalls. I think the sideways shock load on the engine does it, especially with stock engine mounts and suspension.
You should try and see if the "Pedal Dance" will work with an AT car. See this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25494 |
Check your PCV line from intake manifold down back of motor, this blew off/got loose and caused the exact issue for a few track guys.

Seems to be an Automatic trans issue and not an issue with the car. Try driving the car up a steep hill - while you are driving up the hill, come to a complete stop, and let the car roll backwards with your foot off the brake or gas - it will likely stall (make sure the hill is steep enough to allows the car to roll back - if the car doesn't have an anti roll back feature).
It's the nature of Automatic transmissions. Sorry. |

the problem is you lifted.
Stay in the throttle, drive out. |

http://asset2.cbsistatic.com/cnwk.1d...10_610x458.jpg The AT also has the VSC Sport button on the right side, but there's an additional Sport button in the middle as well (above the snow button) - it's not the same as VSC Sport. The Sport mode button in the middle just allows higher revs before gear changes - something that you'd do yourself on an MT. http://autofluence.com/wp-content/up...6_2524_low.jpg |
