Anyone try 3M's Plastidip clear bra yet?

Its like Plasti Dip but clear and can be removable.

I'd be interested in spraying this for my front bumper.

BlueSTaR 05-31-2013 03:00 PM

Interested for sure.

jadewbj 05-31-2013 03:01 PM

I have seen commercials for this stuff lately.

monkeedoo 05-31-2013 03:09 PM

looks good , I wonder how smooth is it close up?

naikaidriver 05-31-2013 03:14 PM

I'm curious as well. I owned my car for a whole two weeks before a truck kicked up a rock and chipped my bumper.

It's a cool idea, but what will it do to the paint underneath if left on for years or even re applied so say the bumper and hood is covered for 3 years. It likely won't be the same color as the rest of the car.

Gearhead23 05-31-2013 03:24 PM

I applied it to the rocker panels of my WRX, to prevent cone damage/marks while autoxing. It dries really clear, and and smooth. Looks great. I hit a cone in a slalom and it left a mark on the film but did not tear it or scuff . Super durable. I wiped the cone mark off and it looks fine. I did make a mistake the first time i sprayed it, after drying it pulled right off just like a vinyl decal. I will be spray the other areas prone to cone marks.
Well worth the money.

ShoGun 06-03-2013 11:35 AM

Can it be applied to glass?

hur1ey02 06-03-2013 11:51 AM

My mom enlightened me on this stuff. She said she was curious to put it on her Element so I'm going to *Hopefully* experiment on her car first! I'll let you guys know how it does. My only concern with using hers as a test pig is that it is silver. I don't think it would show imperfections like most other paint colors would (through the clear lining).

Fett4Real 06-03-2013 11:52 AM

Dont think Id put it on glass...but I saw the youtube review on that benz...debating using it myself.....not sure though....a porche forum guy didnt have great luck with it....although he didnt seem to be a painter. And I dont think he let it cure long enough and tried removing it to soon.

Marcoscrdo 06-03-2013 12:56 PM

When did this come out?

CrazyWookiee 06-03-2013 01:10 PM

Wonder if it'll work for wheels. Would be nice to have something temporary to cover aftermarket wheels.

rice_classic 06-03-2013 01:10 PM

I really like this idea for tracking a street car. Great way to protect the headlights and bumper from debris.

Cade01 06-03-2013 01:14 PM

Hmm, I might have to try this! I bet this would give Plasti Dipped wheels a better gloss than the Plasti Dip Glossifier and still peel off when you wanted to.

Well if you're going to only apply it before a track day then any colour really would work since you're just going to peel it off. I'm really waiting on a review because this would help so much in Houston it's not funny. I'm just wondering if it'll seep into any places where the 5axis kit and bumper meets. I would hate to pull it off and ruin the adhesive on the kit.

mush 06-03-2013 02:14 PM

Intresting. Instead of a screen protector on ur phone u can apply this!

I use something similar for track days, called "Road Warrior Plus". I ordered a larger quantity of it, so the price per use was cheaper. It comes to ~$7 per track day for me to apply the stuff.

The 3M product looks more transparent and makes sense if you plan on keeping the product on the car longer. However, for track use, Road Warrior Plus seems to be much easier to install. It takes me 5-10min max to roll on the product. When it dries, it has a matte finish look...which doesn't look that great. But, it has been protecting the front of my car...installs in 5-10min...and I can remove it just as quickly.

Sorry to take away from the main thread (being that it's a 3M thread). Just thought I'd throw out another alternative for those of us who track.

PoWn3d_0704 06-11-2013 02:05 AM

I'm getting my car on Friday (6/14) and the first stop on the way home is a shop for Tint and the 3M clear bra. Just gonna do the front half, mostly.

ECUtrav 06-16-2013 08:56 PM

I just got the kit in the mail. I'm going to try and spray the front bumper this week and I'll post pics.

I'm interested in the results as well!

How many coats ? Looks like a little of the spray pattern is visible.

actually I tried 2week ago. tried to same as plasti dip(4coat)

but If you do like that the area you sprayed, will be hazy.

so I peeled off and did it again on Saturday.

in my personal opinion , need to be done by only thick one coat

and indoor is way better for best result.

I'll check and repost about week later how it is. thanks.

HunterGreene 06-17-2013 05:29 PM

I'm curious how this would withstand a winter with rock salt and other winter road debris flying up.

Also, the product is "3M Paint Defender"

yes it was pretty easy to peel off
and I'm plan to do bumper too.

Fett4Real 06-17-2013 06:10 PM

is it like plastidip where you spray over the lights and peel it off or do you want to mask it off? Does it break on seems I guess is something Id like to know for the marker/fog area...and the corner light

also it looks like thats the rear bumper in the last pic?

NorCalGirl 06-17-2013 07:38 PM

Oh wow maybe I could have used this instead of blue tape for that looooong road trip to and from Vegas...

yes last picture is rear bumper. you asked me about how to masking

foglight and drl light right? that's also my question .

maybe I'll just take that parts out and masking.

Fett4Real 06-17-2013 08:15 PM

So it looks like if you mask...you have to remove the part touching the stuff while its wet...or it wont break like plasti dip...So for headlights you would mask em off and then what cut around em with an exacto? I wanna do this but want it done right u know?
