Thanks for sharing.

The Premium interior is livable/ok, but the Limited is so much nicer.

Depends on price. If the price is lower than we expect, I bet many of us will try to swing the limited. More than we expected; go for the premium or another car?

Honestly I am thinking WRB or SWP as well. But from the pics, the WRB has the SWP beat.

Zaku 02-19-2012 09:02 PM

When ever I think I want a Silver BRZ premium... the Red one shows up ... :(

The problem is both dealers Ive talked to are putting in the orders BEFORE pricing is revealed. So I need to make up my mind in the next week or so..

haha also thanks for all the help picking colors/trim guys :slap:

Pittsbugh Show Car / Cargo Size Info

Hello All,

Just got back from Pittsburgh where I saw the car pictured. They were not letting anyone inside the roped off area, but I told them I've been following the car for awhile and had driven a fair distance and if I returned just before closing, could they help me out? They said they would see...

Just before closing, I went back and they did let me sit in the car and check out the trunk area for a bit. Sorry, no pics, but I will concur with all the comments that the interior is quite decent. The seating position is low, but not THAT low - felt a lot like Miata or 370Z height to me and way higher than an Elise, but still with good helmet room for me. I will also concur that the rear seats are useless for adults. I'm right at 6' in shoes (~33" inseam) and with the drivers seat adjusted for me, there was about 2-3" of rear leg room. I didn't even try sitting back there.

One really important thing to me is the cargo area, since I like to haul bicycles with me almost everyday and I prefer to haul them inside the car for various reasons. The trunk pass through measures 40" wide by 13.5" high and is very rectangular. Again with the seat adjusted for me, there is 57.5" of length available from the back of the drivers seat to the rear edge of the trunk. Fitting either a road or mountain bike is looking very promising. Also, I don't think I would have to compromise my driving position in order to place a single wheel/tire horizontally behind the driver's seat, though a two-high stack might force the seat more forward than I'd prefer.

FWIW, I was told by the Subaru rep they are only planning on importing a total of 3,000 to the US for this year, they'll be in dealerships in May, and the price will start in the mid 20's. I would take all of that with a big grain of salt based on some of the other things he said, which I won't repeat.

This interior looks very nice for entry level model car

Snoopyalien24 02-20-2012 10:17 AM

The red on this car looks different in every single shot. Here it looks a bit orange

Zaku 02-20-2012 11:52 AM

Lighting red Is kinda weird like that, not to mention red is one of the harder colors to capture on camera. In the other vid posted recently when it was running around in natural light it looked washed out. Don't know how to feel about that.

I keep hearing some of these figures thrown around. 3,000 or 4,800, 7,000. The thing is Subaru and Scion would be stupid to spend all this time, research, and money to develop this car and then just make a few. Fact of the matter is they will make enough cars to meet the demand at what ever level of production that needs to be. It is easier and more beneficial for them to ramp up production than to make to many cars and have them sitting on the lot. I think they will not let demand go unmet. On the other hand a tight supply of cars does not bode well for trying to haggle and work a deal on price.

Zaku 02-20-2012 05:56 PM

You have to remember that its coming from a single factory, and they have unexpected high numbers of demand at home, they have to fill Japanese orders first and foremost. And were talking initial number for the first year. It's highly unlikely it will exceed 3000.3000 from may to Dec is pretty reasonable.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that they have to meet demand in Japan first. They will do whatever makes best business sense and I doubt that making the US market wait even longer will help their bottom line.

86design 02-20-2012 06:42 PM

is it me or does the Red have a little Orange when the lighting hits the paint

Zaku 02-20-2012 07:03 PM

Ah well I'm not the expert on this stuff, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, so I can learn something. So let me tell you about why I said that and I'll try my best to make it as clear as possible. I've been following the news in Japan very closely, and it turns out that their pre-order numbers are so high and unexpected for both 86 and BRZ( the preorder for 86 was only about hundred or so higher than BRZ in Japan) That they decided to add 1400 cars to the initial order over there. This gives me the impression that they were trying to juts like you said do what ever makes business sense, and remember the Yen is stronger than the dollar so they are selling at more lost here. So that's how I came to the they were trying to meet the demands of their home country first. And I do understand when looking at a bigger picture, I mean it's a single assembly line making this in a factory that makes other cars(Impreza) and they have so many types and trims to fill out. Toyota 86 in 4 trim, Subaru BRZ in 3 trim, BRZ AUS and US another 2 trim each, European trim another couple. and the Scions. All on one line.

3000 cars for the USA(BRZ alone) sounds very reasonable, because the cars will show up around May ish(going my the sale document we got) and seeing how each dealer will get around 4 cars( or more depending on different factors). From the month of May to about November( I say November because usually after October the MY for cars change years I believe) so in the span of 7 months 3000 cars... that doesn't sound like theirs anything wrong with it. Doesn't seem like they'll be a shortage either. So I don't see how anywhere are they making us wait.

jdrxb9 02-20-2012 08:05 PM

color

The color in the pictures in this thread is definitely more orange than the car looked in person. It was a deep red - see posts #3 and #4 from the general auto show pictures thread here for a good idea of how it looked in person.

Zaku 02-20-2012 08:33 PM

Yeah it's a hard color to really get a good picture of, and that recent video really made it look washed out. I'm sure it looks a whole lot better in person.

When you break it down like that it does sound a little more reasonable...3000 BRZ shipped here within about 6-7 months. That would come out to about 6000 units a year. That should be good.
I just think from what I've heard that Toyatabru will keep supply lines tight to maximize (dealer) profit margins. But Again just like the reason for the spike in oil prices today....at this point it's just pure speculation.

Oh and yes that Red sure looks orange with that lighting and filter setting. kind of Orednge

Wife and I went out to see the BRZ at the show. It looks good but I am not a fan of the red. I had to ask the rep really nicely to let me sit inside and look around. Overall the interior was ok, but I am definitely shooting for the limited after seeing the premium.

The more pictures I see of that engine the more I just love, love, love the placement of that oil filter. my 91 Celica was like that, where the oil filter was a cinch to get to and change.
