My custom dash in my FRS

I painted a red base and went over it with black tribal. The wife drew up the tribal for me because I'm no artist lol! I'm actually looking at doing a red carbon fiber wrap on it now, but I'm not sure, I'm having a really hard time making my mind up.:iono:

OnkelC 05-31-2013 01:27 PM

Looks good! Thanks for sharing.

zaptorque 05-31-2013 01:38 PM

Looks interesting, I think for me it would be too distracting

#87 05-31-2013 01:41 PM

hmm, what id you tried black base, tape the tribal design, and clear then sand for a smooth finish.

Either way it looks good for a show car, but wouldn't want it on my daily IMO

:w00t:Well seeing all the dislikes on the dash is really helping me make the decision to go ahead and do a red carbon fiber wrap over the paint job! Thanks everyone for the constructive criticism!

BadMoon 05-31-2013 02:06 PM

It looks like Darth Maul had a baby and it turned into an FRS dash.

Good call lol. It's just a tad cheesy for my taste. Red carbon fiber wrap would be interesting though definitely post some pics once you do it!!

IntotheOcean 05-31-2013 02:07 PM

I think this would look cool on an older car or mustang... Don't get me wrong, I think it looks neat but imo think she should have a clean inside.
Keep it upscale... You know?... I think the red carbon wrap would look sweet tho :)
But if you're looking for color pop, why not do the shift ring(whatever you call it) red, door handles and the air vent rings red too and than maybe leave the dash black? Just an idea

Which is funny, because in his other thread, he has a huge tribal tattoo on his arm.

I think OP has tribal tat. . . . . Tribal is cool and all though, just not in certain applications

CF wrap would indeed look a bit nicer though.

Tanuki 05-31-2013 02:13 PM

also it would look better if the lines were a little thicker (diameter) and flush. They look worse because of the embossed look and bad paint. You could do it a little more tastefully, but I would go ahead and carbon wrap if I were you.

Mikem53 05-31-2013 02:15 PM

well it certainly livens up the cabin !! Looks nice.. Well done

supramkivtt2jz 05-31-2013 02:16 PM

Well, this is definately a different strokes for different folks situation.

Its not my taste, but it seems to be decently done. I suggest spraying it with clear coat to remove the distraction of the height difference of the tribal pattern. All in all, not bad.

whaap 05-31-2013 02:19 PM

I admire the time and effort that went into doing that but I think you're right about covering it.

Some mistakes are a little more permanent.

OnkelC 05-31-2013 02:44 PM

red carbon would be ok as well, but since the OP seems to have a tribal tat anyway, why not keep it that way?

monkeedoo 05-31-2013 02:46 PM

if you like it keep it, i would of preferred black dash red tribal

supragoods 05-31-2013 03:04 PM

joshuagranger this looks like something i would do ...on that note never do anything i would do. (hater got to live your life)

Any updates on the carbon dash? I hopefully will have time to finish at least one of my panels this weekend. Certainly not perfect though.

Hawaiian 05-31-2013 04:14 PM

Wow.. Judgmental much? I applaud your attempt to customize your car to be something you enjoy. I don't care what most people think about the things I do, as long as it makes me happy.

MmmHamSandwich 05-31-2013 04:18 PM

Not feeling that particular design, however I appreciate the approach you took and the work you put into it.

Wouldn't surprise me if we see some more DIY's like this with different themes.

marky 05-31-2013 04:40 PM

Every time you sit in the car you turn into this. Your horns can take advantage of the concave roof

thill 05-31-2013 05:52 PM

I vote carbon fiber wrap all the way. Obviously it is your car and you should do what you want, but it is just too much for me.

FRiSson 05-31-2013 06:01 PM

Like it

Re_Invention 05-31-2013 07:05 PM

If you like it, good job! Thanks for the pics.

Last coat just went on. Should have it done tomorrow night.

Craig 05-31-2013 10:34 PM

Grats on a unique mod, totally not my taste, but make the car your own.

Might want to post these over in the Visual Modification subforum, you might get a little less flame and thats where this stuff belongs.

Calidrifter 06-01-2013 04:40 AM

Not a fan of tribal. But damn the dash looks good in red.

Obja 06-01-2013 05:10 AM

im guessing to match your tribal tattooooos?

Interesting... How much resin did you apply?

Here's mine after the last coat, prior to wet sanding/final buff

Haha not as much as you? It's my third coat but I think I'm applying very thin coats. The last layer started to bead up on the top so I may have to sand it down and add another. First time doing this so I'm just going with it

kthxbai 06-01-2013 09:08 AM

To each man their own, props on originality but would be more interested in the red carbon fiber.

Barbarian 06-01-2013 09:45 AM

Props on what looked to be a well done tribal dash. To mirror what others have said it's not quite my style, but it's also not my car. Looking forward to seeing the results of the red carbon fiber wrap.
