Largest tire size on stock rims?
What are the largest tires (size wise) I can fit on the stock rims?
|
I have heard you can go with 225, but I would like to see a picture of this first. The 215 already look like they are a bit too wide for the 7" rim though, at least to me.
|
I have 225's on some 7" Impreza wheels without any issues.
|
225 40s should fit pretty easily.
|
Stock tires seem kinda narrow to me...

I put 225 45 hankook ipikes on my stock wheels. Looked fine, not pinched. I sold them to a guy with a legacy.

I know someone running 235/40r17 NT01s... 7J is not an approved rim width for that size, but it works. I dont think the reduced lateral stiffness would be worth the extra tread width though.

Some 215/45 Federals would be plenty wide. They're like a 225 anyway.
Just gotta find 'em first... |

225/40 would be a bit short. I'd go 225/45. Slightly taller than stock, but barely.
Maybe 225/40 if you want shorter gearing for autox or something. |
I run 225 45 17 rs-3's on my factory rims,
Fitment is good but not perfect. |
I'm on 225/45/17 Michelin PSS and love them.

OH YEH, so much meatier then OEM
|
Yeah, I really like how it looks. I think most people on here tend to go with maximum wheel width for a given tire size while I typically like the meatier look of minimum wheel width for a given tire size.

Thanks for your help, u guys are awesome!!

I am not a fan of the OEM tires at all. |

I am buying some 225/45/17 DZ101's for now so when I get a bigger 17 inch wheel I don't have to buy another set of tires

Whether you can reliably run that size tire on a 7inch-wide rim for 20K miles is another matter though. |
I think I'm going to end up getting these.

Honda challange guys have been running on 7inch rims. They run anything from a235/40-245/40. We currently run a 235/40/17 R1R on the stock rim. It's a touch smaller then stock and we have no problems.
|
Tirerack is showing a 215/45 F 255/40R stagger option for stock wheels. Anybody have any experience in that combo?
|
Bumping this?

Just got Michelin Pilot SS 225/45/17.....in love, super smooth, extra grippy!

I've always run 235/45/17 on the FR-S and my VW (has the same size rims). Been using them on the VW for over 10 years. I don't like the "look" of the stock size. It just doesn't look right to me.
Actually as soon as I got the FR-S I swapped tires with the VW. It has the stock Scion tires on it now. And it looks really wrong. They'll probably be the last tires it ever sees because I pretty much don't drive it anymore. The FR-S is much more fun to drive. |
I'm running 225/50 on 16x7 with zero issues, including autocross. Car has better feedback than the OEM setup, and I don't need to run crazy pressures get good feel. 7" is perfectly fine for a 225, unless you just like the extra weight.
|
Every manufacturer specs out acceptable wheel sizes for each of their tires and sizes. Some 225 width tires will fit. Others will not. It's dangerous to run tires out of their specs, unless you're just hard parking.
|
I installed 225 55 17. And they were rubbing. The. I went down to 225 50 17. No rub at all turning all the way and it's much more comfy as well

This thread let me know that I can order my PSS tires in 225/45/17. Thanks a bunch, heading to Costco's website.

Bump
I will buy tires soon, will stock rims can hold 225? Or can go more width without rubbing issues? |
