Yeah, theyreally are, I remember when everybody here(rich guys) were all doing the TT vipers making 1200whp and we thought those were fast, now these things pull away from everything like it's nothing, if your not lighter then them and around 1350-1400 your done, not to mention they just take off with their AWD

C-Bone 03-30-2011 02:10 PM

Ya that's insane

When will they start making Toyota Supra kit cars

Ah, the Toyota Supra Mk. IV. A car many want but few can afford. With Twin Turbo Supras becoming more and more rare as rich kids keep crashing them, how long do you think it will be until they make a Toyota Supra Mk. IV kit car? I'd be first to sign up! They could offer it with a variety of motors and suspension options. It would definitely be a lot cheaper than buying and maintaining a real twin turbo Supra and you wouldn't feel bad if you crashed it. I NEED ONE SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matador 11-14-2011 09:52 AM

Why would you want a Supra that doesn't have a 2JZ?

They could always reproduce the 2JZ!

Same reason that someone would want a Lamborghini with an Iron Duke.

OP, you do realize that after all of the work you put into a kit car, assuming you can't do it yourself, you'll end up spending more than you would have if you had just gone out and bought a Supra, right?

Most of the really good kit cars I've seen that ended up as beautiful finished products cost at least 50 grand. Really, if you're going to dump a bunch of money into a kit car, why bother reproducing something you can still get for a reasonable price? Dump that into a F5R GTM or something and have a real badass monster.

kwnate 11-14-2011 12:11 PM

You can get a mk4 for $15k to $25k. Hardly an expensive purchase...

Ryuu0u 11-14-2011 12:17 PM

You make a kit car of a 100k+ exotic not a car that you could have picked up at the dealership for 20k or found in a junkyard and salvaged for that much. The supra was a mass produced sports car not something out of the ordinary. Don't get me wrong i love the car and what it is capable of but its not something that isn't out of reach just out of practicality.

ichitaka05 11-14-2011 02:35 PM

FYI, MkIV Supra in Japan is been crushing to scrap metal as we speak. I saw a ton of Supra, Evo, Skyline, & other older sports cars been waiting to be crushed @ junk yard when I went back to Japan.

The Supra was probably mass produced by Today's exotic car standards, but it is hardly common, and IMHO it was at least 10 years ahead of it's time. It really is something special, but Supras can still be had today at a reasonable price.

Perhaps 20 years into it, when you pretty much can't buy one anymore for less that 100G (and unmolested TT examples probably will get there) because time has taken it's toll on the rest, maybe then. For now, there has to be at least 5000 TT models floating around still.

Nah, they were waiting to be bought for ~$500 to ~$2000 and then exported to Canada where they are sold for ~$8000 (NA) to ~$18000 (TT).

Some junk yard yes, some no. Where I went, I literally saw R32 got crushed into scrapped metal. Of course most of the parts were parted and sold. They said sometimes it's cheaper to crush it than sell it outside. IMO they make more money selling & exporting it outside, but hell what do I know bout junk yard business :iono:

Dimman 11-14-2011 04:23 PM

I heard it's expen$ive to crush a car in Japan. That's where the 100 yen cars come from.

If that was the case, I wouldn't need to see that horror of seeing GT-R been crushed.

Expensive for a person to ask junk yard to crush the car... but for junk yard, it's different.

Guff 11-16-2011 12:49 AM

I just bought a 120k mile Built Auto, Single Turbo MKIV with 3k miles on the built motor and 7k on the built tranny; in VERY good condition. For $17k. Sure, it has a Rebuilt title (No frame damage), but so what? It's cheap and is putting about 500hp to the wheels.

For comparison, a High-Spec FT86 will cost ~$10k more.

No kit car Supras please. You will ruin it's mysticism.

Pristine Supra TT Just Got Totalled

This was my dad's car. He bought it in 2004 with 22k miles and took meticulous care of the engine, exterior, and all. A '97 Twin Turbo Anniversary Edition.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...5_186391_n.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/30jrxog.png

Earlier this month, my dad was sitting at a stop light waiting to turn left when some guy (probably inebriated) took a right turn too fast and wide into my dad's front left fender. This jolted my dad's car halfway to the next lane into a van and deployed the Supra's airbags (see pics below).

http://i.imgur.com/Gmhlbh.jpg

My dad got very lucky. No injuries whatsoever to all involved. Just like how my dad took care of his car, AAA insurance took care of my dad. They towed his car from San Diego to LA to get it adjusted as a collector's car. After 8 years and 80k miles of use, my dad is getting back 97% of what he originally paid in '04 when it had 22k miles. I won't say how much but enough for a BRZ/FR-S. He's iffy about getting one but I convinced him to wait for it to launch so at least it's an option when he shops for a replacement.

Hey Guff (if you're reading this) rather than selling your Supra TT Anniversary Edition try getting it totalled (safely). :bonk:
Jk hope nothing of this sort ever happens to you, bud. :)

WingsofWar 02-18-2012 04:16 AM

i died a little inside after reading this post. Glad your dad is ok.

Infernal 02-18-2012 05:12 AM

ah, i can't look, i saw the first damage pic and thought, og it's not too bad... but then the rest :(

i feel bad for you

i think the one that makes it worse is the one where the roof doesent align anymore :(

EJ20 02-18-2012 05:48 AM

Damn, this makes me cry :(
Glad your dad is okay.
