Anyone getting custom plates for your FR-S?

1 Attachment(s)
Hey anyone here been thinking about getting a custom license plate for their FR-S? I've been tossing around the idea of having something like "TOBARU", "AS1 86", or maybe just "86". All of these are currently available in Texas.

What about you guys? Any cool plate ideas?

Saibot 02-17-2012 01:31 AM

you could technically get TOYOBARU cus its 8 letters. but im gona stick with randomized plates. that way if i do something stupid, it wont be easy to remember me.

Enemies 02-17-2012 05:19 AM

Thought about it but then I figured it would be easier to recognize and remember which might be a bad thing in certain situations. :P

86design 02-17-2012 05:23 AM

Just ordered mine....how TOYBARU was taken I just changed the "A"

"TOYBURU"

Thought about getting I1I11I1I or something. Try to remember that!

Looks like Florida's selection of plates suck...so sadly no. I went through each of the plates and only just a couple seem like they MIGHT work...*drawn out sigh*

SUB-FT86 02-17-2012 07:34 AM

SUB-GT86 might be mines.

dori. 02-17-2012 11:07 AM

I wanted to somehow get a random plate starting with 'FRS' but my mom got new plates for her Subaru, and hers start with FRX so looks like I'm SOL

Looked into this a few years ago. Depending on the Jurisdiction though, a lot of places have a rule on vanity plates that I is effectively the same as 1 (Also O=0 and some other ones....)

The point was that if someone got the plate 'FIRST', then you couldn't get 'F1RST', because that's basically the same thing. So you could get I1I11I1I, but that's the same as IIII1111, or 11111111 or any other combination. (which also means it doesn't matter what people see, it's all the same to the computer).

Basically, it's a good idea but "They thought of that."

Sasquachulator 02-17-2012 12:50 PM

I want to get FT86 or GT86 or just plain 86 for mine.

But im pretty damn sure they will be unavailable by the time i get this car.....

7thgear 02-17-2012 01:51 PM

custom plates = attention

easier to find your ass, both for the cops and the bad guys

you never know what kind of soccer mom decides to call in a "reckless maniac driver" after she tries to change lanes and notices last second that there is someone (you) in it, and all she has to do is call the cops and tell them that someone with the plate BLSDEEP is endangering her life

or something.

true story, my father once got a knock on the door after some woman filed a road rage complaint against him. She tried to pass on the pocket/shoulder after crossing the intersection from a "turn right only" lane, except her little 2.0 jetta (the old non turbo ones) was no match for his v6 accord.

she told the cop that she was "afraid for her life due to my fathers reckless and endangering behavior"

:/

cop took down my fathers side of the story and said not to worry, nothing ever happened of it. But just think how fucked up some people are.

Enemies 02-17-2012 02:08 PM

Haha, people passing on the shoulder always cracks me up. I remember in high school some kid had just got a car, was passing a heavy duty truck and he decided to go onto a gravel shoulder to make the pass since traffic was coming the other way. Diddddddn't quite make it back onto the road in time for the bridge. He was okay but his car was not.

Snoopyalien24 02-17-2012 02:20 PM

I will probably go with the ol Miami Heat plate

Sadly yes, this is true

CSSM 02-17-2012 03:49 PM

Oregon doesnt have their registry online. I have to fill out an application where I write my top 3 choices (only 6 characters) then take it to the DMV, then wait to hear what I end up getting since my top choice might be taken. :(

LOL some of the ITR guys have done that for years to make it harder to do plate lookups to find addresses.

GenkiElite 02-17-2012 04:49 PM

TOFUMAN LOL

I'm a dog dork and we have 3 Labradors (see one of them to the left), so I've been contemplating LAAABS. I wanted to get LAB CAB or LAB TAXI on our minivan, but both were already taken.

Every time I think about getting vanity plates, I usually don't because I don't feel like paying the extra fee, so in the end I'll probably stick with my random plate.

86'd 02-17-2012 06:01 PM

My idea for a plate would only make sense to this community and would almost look like a normal plate, with it's combination of letters and numbers.

I usually hate customized plates, and do think they garner too much attention, but for this car I might have to make an exception.

Dadhawk 02-17-2012 07:07 PM

I considered but couldn't come up with anything I liked within the Georgia restrictions (7 letters numbers or spaces, no symbols).

Closest I could come was something like this where nn represents my series number assuming we know what that is (I'm guessin if they don't tell us we can figure it out by VIN)

"n of 86" or "nn o 86"

"FRS nn"

In the end though, I'm probably too cheap to pay for all the extra fees for a "prestige plate" in GA.

Godzpeed 02-19-2012 03:46 AM

i was gonna go with the plate FT 86, but its not a custom plate in hong kong, and to make things worst, this plate cost $150k!!!

Ouch.....

hachi roku 02-19-2012 04:26 PM

For an FR-S I'm thinking either "86 X 86" since it pays homage to the original and the engine. But I may be going with a Jets plate, not sure yet. http://www.mpi.mb.ca/english/registr...etsPlates.html

Monkey_Boy 02-19-2012 08:00 PM

Missouri is sadly limiting in what they allow on plates--only 6 letters/numbers and/or one space, ', or -. Based on that, I have poked a little and found this to be true in MO:

86X86 is taken
TOY SUB is available
SUB TOY is available
86'DYOU is taken
86D'U is available
BRZ is available
SUB ZRO is taken
SUBRZU is available
SUBARU is taken
MY BXR is available
BOXER is taken
SUB Z is available
PRD BXR is available
SU'BRZ is available
SUB NSD is available (for you Scion drivers)
BRZLIN is available
FRSHHH is available
BOXER Z is taken
Z BOXER is available

And that's about all I have to say about that. :)

that makes sense... but, it doesn't apply in california ~
FIRST ≠ F1RST

i will definitely be getting custom plates... they are the sh!t :)

i like unique plates that makes people think a little and somewhat generic and not vehicle specific, that way it's fun and i can keep it for a long time...

here is my old one:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...0R/STI/866.jpg

i wish i can carry this one over to my new car, but i think it is officially "retired" since i inevitably sold the car with these plates still on the car; on a super short notice...

anyways, i'm thinking about going for the all black look [murdered out?] for my next car, so i'm thinking:

In Georgia, at least as far as I can tell, you can't check in advance. They only allow you to submit up to 6 choices and then they send you the first one available.

Arggh.

The Joy of Google...

wheeladdict 02-21-2012 01:38 PM

Got it...

See sig, picked up TOYOBARU as well for laughs, there may just be a second FR-S/BRZ in my future.
Here in Ontario, personalized plates carry a one-time charge of $250.00; no annual fee added.

rosuhere 02-21-2012 04:16 PM

ahhh, ur missing a letter; it's HACHIROKU...

wheeladdict 02-21-2012 04:19 PM

Yup; 8 only here. It still "ROKS"

:thanks:

rosuhere 02-21-2012 04:22 PM

weird, i dnt rly get it... to each his own !

wheeladdict 02-21-2012 04:23 PM

Plate mounting: front

For those of us needing it, found a site that sells an offset plate mount, connecting to the tow hook on the passenger side. An elegant solution to a visual dogs breakfast.

www.rhoplate.com

hth

p.s. Of course that would require notification to the dealer that ~no~ holes are to be drilled in the bumper fascia... fyi!

p.p.s to Rosuhere; well, if I have to explain... whatever.

i'll get something like this if i get rolled too many time for having the plates on my windshield...

Moshpit37 03-26-2012 06:05 PM

I was thinking about it, but I can't really justify the cost when I can get Veteran plates for $4 a year...

fistpoint 03-26-2012 08:58 PM

If I buy the BRZ the plates will say "FR-S", and vice versa. I'm also considering "Lambo"...then again "Lando" as in Calrissian would also suffice.

:)

russv 03-26-2012 09:05 PM

I may try for 1ST 86

TOYSTRY 03-26-2012 09:30 PM

Can you buy license plates and resell them? Was thinking about buying a couple different plates and reselling........
