Do you drift?

I bought this car over an evo simply because I wanted to get a pure rwd to get back into drifting with. I debated just buying another 240sx but the frs is surprisingly similar.
Anyone else?

BlaineWasHere 05-26-2013 11:29 AM

Nope, I grip.

Mandy 05-26-2013 11:31 AM

I got it over the BRZ in part because it's more tail happy.

After getting tail happy with it, I kinda regret not getting the BRZ; however, my front bumper makes me feel better.

240SX is probably a more practical drift car as they're much less expensive, and parts are rampant.

Drftfan 05-26-2013 11:32 AM

I am planning on building a 240 again. Just not until we get back to SoCal.
The problem with 240s is finding a decent one that hasn't been beat to shit.

whaap 05-26-2013 11:48 AM

No, being an old fart I can reach my pleasure threshold by just taking a nice, slightly agressive drive which I enjoy doing. No matter how low or high your driving expectatins might be, this car does a beautiful job of satisfying.

shirker 05-26-2013 12:03 PM

Why as a matter of fact, yes I do

...but only accidentally

6-Shift 05-26-2013 12:11 PM

There are a couple pretty active drifters on this forum. Personally I just occasionally slide around empty corners :D

You could pretty easily install BRZ springs. The only difference is the spring rates.

TylerLieberman 05-26-2013 12:24 PM

I bought the car for the sole purpose of drifting. Already did an event with it. Check out my build thread and if you have any questions, I'm more than happy to help :)

dem00n 05-26-2013 12:27 PM

Yes.

And you don't even have to do any mods.

Fucking beautiful.

Brndn704 05-26-2013 12:28 PM

I haven't really done any drifting in the FR-S, but I'll shred it up in the S13.

Sonolin 05-26-2013 02:51 PM

Love drifting with this car. No other car has made me so curious of "drifting" than this one.

I plan on doing grip racing semi competitively, but plan on at least trying drifting on a track once. There's actually a drifting track right near me!

ilpad 05-26-2013 04:13 PM

on the stock tires its incredibly easy to drift an 86.

I hear that ...... nope, I don't "drift"; I'd just as soon the back tires follow the front tires .... ;)

Are you my doppleganger? That is literally the exact same reason I decided on the FRS over an evo or WRX, AND I used to own an s13! :happy0180:

I was started to regret my decision but that was before I took the FRS to a drift event. It may be down on power but nothing tops thrashing your car around at the track.

Drftfan 05-27-2013 03:06 AM

I had an s14 then I got an s13. Once the s13 was stolen and stripped I gave up for a while.
My s14 also was stolen but when I got it back it was at least fixable. S13 not so much.
I am leaning towards 17 inch wheels since to me it makes more sense.

pascalbrax 05-27-2013 08:43 AM

I would, but I made an oath myself to never ever try to drift or disable any eletronic aid on public roads.

Do it. 17s are so much better. Especially up front

THA STI GUY 05-28-2013 02:10 AM

I bought mine strictly to turn into a full drift car. I have been doing nothing but straight drifting the car since i had it. entered by first event with 700 miles on the od and 300 of that was driving to the drift event lol. Super fun cars to slide around cant wait to put some more power to it and a good suspension soon

Takuro 05-28-2013 05:29 AM

I drift.
I used to own a S13 that I daily and drifted during events every month. Very fun car. I bought the FRS to fill the void of the 240 and it satisfies, but I still miss the 240. If I find one in good condition, I want to build another S chassis. There's a local drift event coming up and I'm probably gonna take my car for a few short laps (but mostly drift my brother's SR20 S13).

Mineral Wells by chance?

BadLuckZN6 05-28-2013 06:27 PM

I have an s14 that i drift, had a few little drifts in the 86 but nothing proper yet

driftartist 05-28-2013 06:37 PM

well...:burnrubber:

Nevermore 05-28-2013 06:44 PM

No, but apparently my dad has drifted mine on a few different occasions.

Leonardo 05-28-2013 07:41 PM

I have a 1/3 mile paved driveway with a hair pin corner. I have drifted my cars around it. S2000, GS400, FR-S. It is fun. I ended up on the bank with my GS400 one time. LOL I had just put a set of used wheels with used tires on the car.

oxygen 05-28-2013 11:10 PM

Check this video out, pretty cool drifting

I have been trying lol. seems to understeer alot for me. and in the rain, well good things did not happen in the rain.
anyone have any advice? just keep practicing? different tires? get some arms and a better alignment?
i feel like i should be able to get it sideways no easily but enough if i get good enough. its the only thing keeping me from upgrading

MVJ1975 05-29-2013 08:39 AM

I have been known to drift the occasional corner.

The only known casualty so far is a bag of popcorn.

Go to an event and practice. Much different than streets. Your learning curve will be much higher by practicing at sanctioned events

Drftfan 05-29-2013 12:42 PM

There are videos available on how to. I used to simply clutch kick my 240 but a lot of people use speed or handbrake it. Since I am still in break in period I have only handbraked it so far. Worked great.

CAMBAM_6 05-29-2013 02:38 PM

I dont know how to drift :iono:...i hope to learn SAFELY in the near future though, its my DD so I have to stay safe..lol

Why'd you choose FRS if you prefer sticking to the road? There are plenty of other sport cars that grip better.

Like what for $25k? I think there are zero. I'm already generating more grip than much more expensive "sports cars" at autoX with a few simple mods.

I don't think you don't know what you're talking about. How much racing do you do?

SP86 05-29-2013 06:57 PM

Something like that, but more so a hybrid style (grip-drift)..I hardly ever use the handbrake really not my forte. As of right now it's not in an fr-s but an 86 Starion snail powered so when I do get into one of these I'll be changing up the dynamics a little. Luckily the weight distribution in both are identical so that's a good start.

Cade01 05-29-2013 07:00 PM

I really want to learn to, I just haven't had the opportunity.

Cxlumpy 06-02-2013 02:58 AM

i have drifted my frs and i honestly like my s13 better. Its definitely a fun car to drift but i use to modified knuckles and the frs doesnt hang haha. Possibly once i get coils and what not ill have fun but for right now its ok.
