Trunk Space / Subwoofer Box
I am having a hard time figuring out what size box I can get for my Subwoofer for my FR-S Trunk.
Information is hard to come by: ---------------- Trunk Space: 32" Deep The alcoves above behind the rear wheels are 14" deep and 11" tall. ---------------- I am trying to figure out what sub enclosure I can get for a 10" Alpine Type X The recommended enclosure size will not fit into the trunk |
10" - 12.5"W x 13.0"H x 16.5"D 1.10 cu ft Air Space Tuning - 44 Hz
Here is one speaker box I found for the Type X If I am not mistaken that will NOT fit into the trunk |
My sub/box came from a friend but it's got a JL 10" and just barely fits the height of the trunk. I have to ease it in. I can measure tonight. This is not ported. A custom enclosure that is molded to the trunk would really be the best bet. More money, but you get to keep a huge portion of your trunk space.
Or, when in doubt...make one! |

I don't care about trunk space... |
I'll try to remember when I get home.

I cant help with measurements as my trunk isn't stock anymore, but I will say this, go at least 1.5cf for the box tuned no higher than 36hz.
If you are gonna get something smaller and tuned higher, you'd be better of just getting one of the JBL powered setups. |
My sealed box is 12 3/8" tall and about that deep as well (on the bottom). The back is tapered, so it's shorter up top. It just barely fits, I could not have an amp on top and squeeze it in, not that I would anyway.
If you keep it around that height and not too deep, you can get away with a longer box. It's just awkward getting the thing in the trunk with such a small opening. |
This is what I have and, after shoving some padding in the rear deck lid for the rattles, it sounds fantastic.

^Are you just using heavy duty velcro to keep everything in place? It seemed to me the carpet behind the seats is a bit floppy for this.
|
Look at my build..
Message me for info on how I did it!!! |
I have a 1sq ported box with a type-r 10" in my imprezza, to my shocked it fits perfect in my fr-s I can take some measurements if you like. its a hair small for a type-r or type-s but if you add a little polyfill it does the trick.

Here are some pics of my setup:

I tried putting 2 10" kicker that comes with a encloused box but it wouldn't fit inside the entrance area! I thought 10" would be small enough.. anyone know what size the box should be max (height?) to get it in the trunk?
ps it was these kickers: http://carphonix.ca/wp-content/uploa...05/10DC102.jpg |
I say either go to a professional shop and have a proper box built, or buy something that is made for the car like the JL Stealthbox:

For me, this helps keep the box in place, with my tool bag next to it. Bag has mega velcro, so it won't budge, and the car can't accelerate hard enough to push the sub back to the rear anyway. This is all just to tide me over until I build something similar to what Brian posted. |
Which single 10" do you have? do you think that a single is enough bass for you?

I did a pro-install as well - 2 JL 8 in. I have enough trunk space to fit a gym bag left, which works just fine as I get a rental if I'm taking a trip. There is a thread of mine in the audio section. Sounds amazing with an upgraded HU!

Sounds like you have a transmission line.
