DRL's deactivated, beep increased

So my China pirated Toyota Techstream software came in. After several failures, I did some interwebs reading and found out that I had to use a Windows XP computer. Dusted off my fiance's old laptop and installed everything. Got it all working, and was able to make a few changes:

-DRL's turned off
-Keyless entry beep volume increased to 7(highest) from 5(default) so one can hear when the car locks now.

Hurray!

Jrohit 05-14-2013 09:22 PM

Congrats man! How does the beep sound now after you've raised the volume? I was at school today and locked my car, but I barely heard the beep. I went back to make sure that it did. It's always awkward when you have to go back to your car to lock it.

It is now a reasonable volume, not the barely noticeable state it was in before

That's good to hear, I might ask the dealership to raise it for me when I go to pick up my tags (whenever that is). The beep on my old Sentra was amazing, it was loud enough to hear, yet it was subtle at the same time.

Oh Nice I was thinking about ordering it, anything else nifty you can do ?

OrbitalEllipses 05-14-2013 10:21 PM

I wish the shift buzzer was louder, but there's probably not a setting for that.

What you mean shift buzzer like the ol "you hit the rpm set beep red light thingy?" :bonk:

Superhatch 05-15-2013 09:53 AM

I came here thinking it was the shift light/beep sound you made louder!

Yeah. I have it set so that the light goes off ~6900 so I don't actually ping the rev-limiter. The buzzer's nice in 1st or 2nd, but completely inaudible in every other gear. For safety's sake, I'm not looking at the tach when shifting like that; I'm looking at the road so a louder buzzer would be nice.

DRL's off? Can you turn them back on for street driving?

Areddi 05-15-2013 11:16 AM

Yep they can be reactivated at any time. I plan to have them off all the time, since I find them ugly. Also, it's kinda like the manufacturer saying that I don't know when to use my headlights, or something. Safety feature? Ehhhh, my car is bright red. Legally required? Nope, so off they go!

johhnc479 05-15-2013 11:32 AM

I'm glad I have the DRL's. Better than headlights since they are specifically designed for daytime visibility (of you) and are just the front. I share the road with a bunch of distracted/never look twice drivers. Every little bit helps.

I wouldn't mind an on/off switch though.

nataku 05-15-2013 11:35 AM

Haha I read the title as if some beeping got louder as a side-effect of turning off your DRLs...

Can you activate the "honk the horn if he locks it a few times quickly" thing? I lose track of my car in parking garages all the time and miss my civics little honk for echolocation...

Car has a panic mode for that.

I guess I could have added "...without being a public nuisance."

My bad, no offense was meant

Is the only way to adjust the beep volume to use this software? I called my local toyota dealer and the service representative said the volume is not adjustable - they could just turn it on or off. I kind of didn't buy it..

Came across this during a search, but I just had mine turned up to 7 at the dealer. They did say 7 was as high as it would go. They were able to do it during my oil change. I also had the seat belt reminder chime turned off. Hope this helps.

If you don't mind me asking, which dealer did you take it to?

Ventura Toyota. They seem to know what they were doing. Didn't look at me funny when I asked them to program the chimes. It was my first interaction with them but so far so good. They didn't break my car or screw up the oil change. :)

Avo1789 08-13-2013 11:33 PM

Update: went to Toyota of Riverside today and asked them to turn up the beep with my oil change. Thankfully they were able to do it without any questions asked. I guess it depends whether the service rep you initially talk to is competent enough.. Sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack!
