That's the question. If they are letting people in - I might drive over to sit in it.

well i just know in one of the subie threads on here there was a br-z and it was roped off but the guy ended up getting to sit in it... so maybe i just gotta talk someone into letting me in it

Zaku 02-07-2012 10:53 PM

Yup People who went to the Washington DC Auto show got to sit in a Limited Trim BRZ

bFreed 02-07-2012 11:12 PM

The FR-S skipped us in DC and went straight to Chicago.... You wont get any new info I bet... I didn't.

I did get to sit in the BRZ that was here and check it out though. It is perfect.

I've never had a problem with parking there. Where do you park at?

I'm probably going to go on Tuesday morning.... hopefully the fewest crowds.

Living social has $5 tickets.

Doubtful that we will get to sit in it. It's common practice to not let people sit in cars that aren't released or arent in production yet.

See ya there Saturday.

Brett

Im in Scion Evolution. Our Wisconsin Chapter meets up with Chicago and they have free tickets for us and then we all go to the show together

EDIT: I should clarify, there is a Scion dealership (cant remember the name) that we meet Chicago at and the dealer gives the SE people free tickets....

The parking there costs more then the tickets themselves :[ is there a place where parking is cheaper?

Ninja Edit: free parking preferred? :D

BP has half off tickets pretty much anywhere in the chicagoland area, just FYI for all people going. Their like 6$ at any participating BP gas station.

maxeveland 02-09-2012 10:29 AM

Also, Chevy dealerships are giving tickets away for free, if anyone is interested in going. Get on em, cause their going fast. Here is the link:

On a different note,
Anyone know any decent parking places?

tachi1247 02-09-2012 09:48 PM

Saw the BRZ and FR-S at the Chicago autoshow today and I have to say that the car looked good, but I'm a little disappointed in both manufacturers since they only brought 1 car each and had them on rotating displays and no one was allowed access.

A car that will be for sale ~may should have enough units produced already to get at least 1 car to the show for people to sit in. Going to be even worse since I know my local Subaru dealer will sell each of these cars as soon as it gets in so it may be a long while before I get to actually sit and play.

For what it is worth, the scion rep told me that the fr-s will be packaged like all other current scion models. That is one model/trim level with no options and the usual cosmetic dealer accessories will be available. Basically, no HIDs, push button start, etc. will be available, but fog lights, spoilers, and all the neon you could ever want can be yours.

I will post pics shortly.

tachi1247 02-09-2012 09:58 PM

Here are the pics I took today. I only had a point and shoot and didn't really plan on taking photos to share so excuse the quality and lack of good angles.

Is it me or does the BRZ look better then the FRS in these pictures?

tachi1247 02-09-2012 10:13 PM

I prefer the BRZ, but then again I'm looking for a nicer car and will probably buy a limited model or an STI version depending upon how soon I need to replace my current vehicle. I'm pretty confident that a turbocharged version will be in Subaru showrooms by CY 2014.

BTW, park in the 4th floor of the parking garage and you can walk across the bridge to south hall via the doors at the southeast corner of that floor. $19 for up to 16 hours.

Double4Free 02-09-2012 10:15 PM

The front end of the FR-S in this picture looks disappointing. Maybe its the camera or the light. Will have to wait until monday to see in person :P Howd you get in today? Early admission?

maxeveland 02-09-2012 10:18 PM

nice pics but i wish they wouldve let you in to take pics of the interior as well. Also I agree that the Brz looks better here because the red just doesn't look great, maybe if it were metallic it would be more appealing

tachi1247 02-09-2012 10:19 PM

Today was social media day from 8:30-3:00. Got in through my membership in the BMW CCA. Fantastic deal. Free admission, free soda, juices, waters etc all across the show and a some places like BMW and Audi had breakfast spreads. Plus there were probably 500 people total at the show and many more cars were open/unlocked than normal....got to sit in an Merc SLS and the Jag XK-RS among others.

But didn't get to sit in FRS/BRZ? That is disappointing.

I pleaded to let me up on the display, but no dice. Maybe if I had real media credentials and a real camera it could have happened.

Exactly. Other than the Maserati, Lamborghini, & Aston Martin's that comcast brought at some special booth the only other locked cars were the 3 Dodge Darts LOL. I was able to sit in a couple $190k Mercedes and a Skyline GT-R but Dodge locked up all 3 of the 2013 Darts they brought which start at $16k. I assume those will be open tonight for the black tie gala and probably once the show starts tomorrow, but they were locked when I was there and there were no people manning any Chrysler/dodge/fiat displays.

poormans_LFA 02-09-2012 10:26 PM

tachi - how does the BRZ compare to pictures??? and what did you think about the grill and black plastic bumper piece??

tranzformer 02-09-2012 10:27 PM

I am biased but BRZ looks better than the FRS in these pics.

dsgerbc 02-09-2012 10:33 PM

Sigh. No sitting in it then. Hope they come to their senses during the show...

The car looked every bit as good in person as the pictures I had seen previously. I really like the lines of the car and the overall shape. The front grill looked fine to me, but I'm really not bothered by the black bumper piece so my opinion may be skewed. I was really hoping to sit in the car and see exactly how much room there is as that could end up being a deal breaker for me at some point if you can't fit 2 small kids in back for short jaunts across town.

Highly unlikely. Both the displays have the little glass wall around them and there is no real way to get up on the Subaru display as it is raised above the show floor. It clearly isn't meant for people to be going up and down.

Double4Free 02-09-2012 10:39 PM

Ill try my luck on monday  maybe my gf can persuade them ahha. Ill lie and say I have some car show on youtube or something.

tachi1247 02-09-2012 10:41 PM

I was glad to see that Scion finally changed their stupid display as well. I got tired of seeing that 3 story rack of cars for the last 5 years or however long they have been using it. Total waste of space...what is the point in bringing 12 cars if 8 of them are up in the air and unable to be seen?

tranzformer 02-09-2012 10:42 PM

How do you like the WRB color in person?

Love it. I've always been a fan of that color. My guess is that if I don't get WRB then I would go with black or white. I really miss the white first gen Supra I used to have, but black is just so sexy....but a pain to keep clean. Decisions, decisions...

tachi1247 02-09-2012 10:49 PM

I wouldn't put too much stock into the colors you see in my photographs. Like I said, I had a point and shoot and the lighting was not at all conducive for taking pictures. There were several cars where I looked at the color of the car on the LCD screen and then at the car with my own eyes and they weren't even that close. The big halogen lights just wash out the color too much. The red really wasn't as pink looking in person, but it wasn't a deep bold red either.

The best looking paint I saw at the whole show might have been the metallic red on this accord coupe concept. Knowing honda the actual car will probably look something like this...hopefully they offer this color although I don't think I would ever buy one.

I didnt have to lie in DC; I just told her that I have been waiting years for this car to come out and I cant believe how great it is to finally admire it in person... Could you make my week and let me take a seat in it? :D

I would get there first thing in the morning to increase my chances, good luck!
