Found this on eBay.
Shipping fee's kinda steep. I think I'll just wait until they're at Target.

Mandy 05-07-2013 08:30 PM

Finally, I'll have to pick up one of these and a Hachiroku.

Brzetto 05-07-2013 08:47 PM

I think this car will warm the pegs in no time. Hot Wheels nerds are very picky about cars, in their little world only muscle cars exist and Japanese cars are inferior in every way. When in reality Japanese cars are more of then than not better made and better equipped. I guessed no one noticed the premium level wing on this thing. Clearly just an 86 GTS toy with Scion logo.

Muscle cars and movie cars. I never could find a KITT in the wild. But you are correct, unless they do a limited color, they will be the peg warmers with the Astons and Skylines.

hushypushy 05-07-2013 08:56 PM

Eh, looks kinda fudgy. And why does it have to have a molded body kit/side scoop instead of just a stock car?

Oh well, that's not going to stop me from buying one (just ONE, I'm not a hoarder/reseller!!) of each color I find :D

Carlitoz3 05-07-2013 09:01 PM

Kinda odd looking, but it will do for now (:

Hotwheels has always been about modding and wild over mild. Matchbox was more geared towards stock.

Turbowned 05-07-2013 09:10 PM

Sweeeeet! I'm still not gonna buy one, because I'm trying to avoid buying any more Hot Wheels cars, but awesome that they make one!

hushypushy 05-07-2013 09:11 PM

^ I agree with you, because in general you are right, but there are tons of Hot Wheels that are both based on stock cars AND have a high quality molding. I just wish this was one of them. And seeing that Hot Wheels already has the license, we won't see a Matchbox version :( Oh well, time to start looking into JDM scale models.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. Would be nice to see a stock Hot Lava FR-S or WR Blue BR-Z in the style of this one:

sprintertrueno86 05-07-2013 09:48 PM

Paint quality is probably better than a real FRS/BRZ.

This. Sad but true.

Brzetto 05-07-2013 11:09 PM

This is not an FRS, it's an 86 with a Scion badge painted on. The FRS does not have regular access to the BRZ Ltd Type S/86 GTS spoiler.

We might see a matchbox version. If I'm not mistaken Hot Wheels (Mattel) bought out matchbox a while back. They're already using the matchbox molds to make Hot Wheels, but I'm not sure about Hot Wheels molds as Matchbox cars.

Now that I know it's out there, I'll start searching the pegs at Target for these!

I hope, Hot Wheel make FR-S Concept ver... (Crossing my fingers)

mrlewistan 05-08-2013 01:35 AM

mattel owns both companies but they kinda neglect matchbox. i doubt we will see a frs/brz matchbox anytime soon. but im super excited for the frs hotwheel. gonna buy a couple and paint them to stock colors

Finally! I've been waiting over a year for this! Seriously - Hot Wheels will put out a concept car before the production version sometimes (Mustang, etc), but usually follow a hot new car to the pegs pretty quickly. I keep swinging by the displays, but haven't seen one of the twins yet.

The good thing is that Hot Wheels like to play around with paint and graphics. The first time they release a new car, they usually call it "First Release Collectirs Series", but the next year they may do the car in a different color with different rims. If you're lucky, the car will be included in a special release series (usually based on graphics added, like sports, or music, etc). They did an "Ice" series a while back (forgive me if I can't recall the name) where each car was pearl white.

I'll definitely be buying TWO of each design they make. One will go to my son (age 4) who has no concept of leaving the toy in the package. (Seriously, can you blame him? What do you mean we can't open it??) The other one will go in a box. I have about 350 unopened "mint on card" Hot Wheels - most from the '96-99 various series, and the rest just random ones I've picked up here and there. (for $1/ea, it's a no brainer to buy one you like!)

I used to put them up on cork boards, overlapping cards, no holes - using thumb tacks in the "hook" part. If I tried that now, my son would just tear them all open.

Very happy to buy a few of the twins - unfortunately I'll have to see if another company does the BRZ, bc Hot Wheels isn't about to make a whole new mold for slight changes.

And yes - Hot Wheels does the wild stuff like exposed engines, huge rims, crazy graphics, etc. I even have a toilet bowl car of theirs. Matchbox does plain-Jane models - which are better if you want something stock looking. (especially if you want to use it for something like an HO model train layout). They also seem to make more things like regular garbage trucks and construction vehicles.

Fingers crossed that next year they make a GT86 with the Hot Wheels Racing logo/graphics. :)

Uh oh... don't let the camaro/mustang/challenger forum guys see this

radroach 05-08-2013 11:59 PM

I have the AE86 Corolla, Porsche GT3RS, and Impreza WRX/STi hot wheels on my desk. I think an FR-S and hopefully a BRZ will complete my collection!

n2oinferno 05-09-2013 12:07 AM

I don't see it on their site, and normally they seem to keep it up to date with everything they've got out there.
http://www.hotwheels.com/en-us/collection/index.html

Although I did see a neat bumper car I'm going to pick up if I find it in stores. Oh, and this is new for 2013.

Fuck'em lol  I've called them out on the Hot Wheels Collectors forum before. That HWC forum is full of middle aged elitist snob assholes. I like all engines as long as they are pretty good build quality and power wise but those rednecks on the HWC forum are close minded hillbillies who prefer V8's only.

forzajuve 05-09-2013 02:24 AM

If only those wheels were white!

denkigrve 05-09-2013 03:37 AM

Eh, I don't think that's an actual hotwheels car. Looks like something custom someone is trying to say is hot wheels. There are a few other 1/64 GT86 cars available, and a fair number of people customize those all of the time.

If it is legit I need to buy 4. One for my desk at home, one for my desk at work, one for my son so he won't touch mine, and one to keep in a package in the garage in case my son breaks mine. :P

You could fix that with some paint, a fine bristled brush, and some steady hands.

Evasive Motorsports 05-10-2013 02:59 AM

O man we need a evasive one!

Shiro86 05-10-2013 03:08 AM

I just bought a hot wheels kit including an AE86 and THE EVASIVE S2000

I'm pretty happy with it!

Jond63 06-16-2013 03:39 PM

There's also a 1/64th Kyosho one on Ebay from Hong Kong for ~$16 that is really nice, and a 1/43rd one for a bit more that is super nice. Look to be authentic Toyota promo pieces.

Noble713 06-16-2013 11:03 PM

I was just in Akihabara last week. Didn't see those Toyota 86's but they were selling blue Subaru BRZ's for about $20. Guess I should have bought a few...

sidnacious 06-18-2013 02:25 PM

Lamley just posted this in their blog. The FRS is coming soon....

http://lamleydlm.blogspot.com/

Gost 06-19-2013 10:15 PM

Got my 3. They seem pretty legit. The reason why it wasn't on the official website was probably because the ones being sold on ebay were an international version before the US release.

Noble713 06-21-2013 08:00 PM

$18 for both? $9 each? I just bought one at Justco for ¥298 ($3 USD). Also bought an R35 GT-R, a C6 Z06, and an SLS AMG. Total cost of ~$12.

Brzetto 08-04-2013 05:01 AM

I have the car and it does have some subtle bodykit vents behind the foglights and behind the doors.

Mad_Mike 08-04-2013 11:09 PM

Just picked these up at my local target:

Just found those 3 myself. Pretty cool that someone at Mattel has a sense of history.
