Droo-P D1 Drift FRS Build
Hey guys,
Ran across this post this morning on the BRZ Sports Car Club FB page http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7158/6...40d2a7aa_b.jpg 405839_357779897574008_170708089614524_1380683_121 3830667_n by jeremyvelliott, on Flickr "AVO Turboworld Japan has been asked to work on the Droo-P D1 Drift FRS. We will be putting in and tuning a Cosworth engine, turbocharging it, and working on other bits and pieces. This is the standard front crossmember that we will be modifying to fit the Cosworth engine. This work is starting from next Tuesday!" so im sure we will be getting lots of pictures oof this build starting Tuesday :happyanim:....lets try to dump all the info and pictures in this thread FT86 Cosworth Engine Ok guys here are the first pics of the FT86 Cosworth Engine from Avo TurboWorlds Facebook Page http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7162/6...47005ede_b.jpg 429509_361459263872738_170708089614524_1389828_178 846822_n by jeremyvelliott, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7145/6...1331b80b_b.jpg 425706_361459393872725_170708089614524_1389829_121 0349922_n by jeremyvelliott, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7018/6...aef7a159_b.jpg 424158_361459450539386_170708089614524_1389830_251 313694_n by jeremyvelliott, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7027/6...03d6a8fb_b.jpg 409377_361459527206045_170708089614524_1389831_967 851524_n by jeremyvelliott, on Flickr |
if that's the stock front cross member then i am impressed, seems to be much more compact compared to subaru.
also, as i said in another thread, with the dry-sump installed (as seen in the photo) the engine can technically sit another 3 inches lower than OEM.. the problem comes in with the headers though. :( maybe they should have designed the exhaust ports to be angled so that the ehxaust piping can start out at an angle and therfefore not have too hard of a bend.. hmmm |
It's a standard crossmember, but won't be for long!

Turbo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :happyanim:
|
I believe they are aiming at a 600-700hp build, torque intensive. Ross is our engineer doing the work, and he's going to be at it. I'll try and leave updates here as we go.

approx .259 hp/lb or about the same as a saleen s7. Jeebus that is going to be slide happy and a ton of fun, or should i say 1.2 tons of fun.
|
Hm... from the looks of it, after market company gonna have a fun time figuring out how to fit after market NA EL/UEL header in there...
|
Glad to see it's a D1 and not a FD build.
|
Check out the new pics i just added guys!

And it begins:
http://www.brz-scc.com/media/droop_build/build_001.jpg Drove from the Akishima-shi, Tokyo AVO office to Droo-P's secret lair deep in the mountains of Japan (though admittedly probably quite near a bar of some sort) with the Cosworth engine, an AVO turbocharger of immense girth, and lots of bits n pieces of this and that to get to work with. I'll keep the build updated here and on facebook! Regards, Paul Hansen www.avoturboworld.com www.facebook.com/BRZSportsCarClub |
Where are the pics of the AVO turbo?

FT86 cosworth engine?
Common rail not found upon inspection.. FA20 not found EJ25 |
Good on you for being a pioneer and thanks for posting progress.
I think in time, this swap will become as common as changing spark plugs. Are you taking the FA20 and pulling it down? |
Even if we had access to a number of FA20's to experiment with (which we don't, not for several months), it's extremely doubtful it's going to get to the power needed for D1 right off the bat. The car is being built for the current season, which means we have weeks to get it going, not months. So going with a known quantity was necessary - thus the Cosworth engine, which we've used for our Time Attack widebody at Tsukuba for over 3 years now.
The engine is going to be the easy part, getting the piping worked out for the turbo, exhaust, and intercooling is going to be the not so easy part. Regards, Paul Hansen www.avoturboworld.com www.facebook.com/BRZSportsCarClub |
This is gold. Keep the pics coming. :happy0180:

Wow looks already fast

Just testing out clearances and such... All joking aside, it looks like there's a good amount of room available. Well, at least after you've pulled out wiring harnesses and all other unnecessary bits. Regards, Paul Hansen www.avoturboworld.com www.facebook.com/BRZSportsCarClub |
Should be able to fit an 88mm turbo in there...
:D |
is the Build taking place here in the states or in Japan? IF anyone knows.

We've got someone taking the time to post updates during a pretty serious build here.
Paul made it clear on the first page why it's an EJ. I'm sure if you want to buy your own race team, you could then make the decision to spend time and money developing whatever you want. Until then, appreciate the time taken to provide these updates, the money that's going into it and whinge elsewhere .. or you might just chase away an interesting contributor. This forum certainly can't afford to do that. |
Haha, don't worry Coyote, the question always comes up. But to answer, this is a D1 car, engine's are as related to stock in D1 as they are in stock car racing. ;)
This post is going to be longer, just warning you all now! More updates while they are working out fuel issues. This is more along the lines of information of interest - photo of the FA20 cam sensor http://www.brz-scc.com/media/droop_b...ranksensor.jpg The standard motor out of the car http://www.brz-scc.com/media/droop_build/build_006.JPG Literally just a intercooler core, we'll be building the end tanks to fit. http://www.brz-scc.com/media/droop_build/build_004.JPG More goodies. http://www.brz-scc.com/media/droop_build/build_005.JPG Technical tidbits - the standard transmission is built by Aisin for Subaru, labeled as a Subaru. It won't bolt up to a EJ series motor. The bellhousing is different, and the starter motor has been swapped to the other side. We'll be getting a custom Hollinger gearbox in for this build.
