I'm Disappointed
Ok so actually sat in the brz today...mixed feelings
The interior quality is much nicer than I expected..felt like a very well built car. Rear seat room....nope...there is none. I'm only 5'7 and my friend is 5'10. With me in the back seat and the front seat so far back that my feet were locked in place, he was still uncomfortable. I was expecting to be able to carry people back there for short trips but even that seems like a ludicrous expectation at this point... As for the front seats, I'm 5'7 and 145 pounds and a size small in clothing so I'm not a big person by any stretch of the imagination. The seats felt way to narrow for me, I couldn't sit comfortably. I'm not sure what kinda of anorexic person they were designed for but I'd HAVE to change the seats to get the car. Other than seating the car felt really great and it's the perfect size for that type of car. Just swap the front seats for racing seats, and remove the rears all together and this can will be exactly what I want...but do I feel like doing that to a brand new car is the question. I'll probably end up with a genesis (which looks great in person despite the ugliness shown in the pics) or a mustang or something. Or if a go for another used car maybe a s2k or see if I can find supra. Edit:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay after reading my post after I woke up I was to harsh on the front seat and I apologize for that. I'm not going to remove anything I said (because I hat when people do that) so I'll just explain better below. It's not that the seat was TOO small...just a TAD bit too tight..for me. Not to the point that it's a problem for me...just past the point of being ideal. The passenger seat felt great so I'm not sure why I felt awkward in the driver seat. What Guff said is true, maybe I am just not use to it...yet. I've never been in seats like these before. As for the last line about probably ending up in a genesis or something else. Not really sure why I wrote that. Again I apologize. I read some of the posts saying I should just get the gen coupe since that's the type of car I wanted and the one about me getting the buick(lol?) and I initially got somewhat angry. Then I re-read what I said and it all made sense. As far as new cars are concerned this is still the first car on my list. Mainly because I really like small cars; and out of new cars there really isn't anything else that fits the bill. The gen and the 'stang for that size car are nice but I feel kinda lost when I sit in them. |

Oh come everyone, the opinions are all subjective from different people. We had a member that's 6'6 and 220 some pounds sit in the car and they felt just fine. I'm 6 and 160 and I'm ok with it too. The seat behind the driver is definitely useless(You know like a Porsche 911 useless), but the passenger side you can sit two people for short trips. But they are going to have to be petite people, kids or if you have a smaller gf or something i can't imagine any one past 5'4 to fit comfortably if someone is sitting behind them. It wasn't meant to carry people it was meant to be sports car( Like a Cayman), and it's coming close to every definition of it. Honestly carrying people is what a lot of us wanted, but this isn't a GT car, it's not a Sedan, it's not a Lancer or a WRX. So don't get discourage. Don't let the hype get you, figure out what you want and look for a car that fits it, if this isn't it. If it doesn't meet your needs then it's not for you.
Pretty simple really and to be honest they engineered it using Japanese people as the blue print( yes it's a Japanese car), they are much smaller then us Americans, in fact they're just about the same size as Kage. So the opinion is very subjective, I'm sorry it doesn't work out for you, best of luck to you and any car you choose, have fun with it. |

If you are going to be throwing this thing threw the corners you are going to need snug seats.
|
Like Zaku was saying, a 6'6" 220lb guy sat in it and said he was nice as snug, but everyone's body shape is different I suppose.
Also, side bolsters are supposed to lightly push/hold your sides in so perhaps you just aren't used to aggressively bolstered seats? |
There gonna be always haters... Some just don't like it. Like GC better, sure go for it. Just say "This car wasn't for me." & just move on...

Its all good in the neighborhood... I got a feeling this will still sell like hot cake ..
it would of been okay-ish ... Personally I think it'll workout for most people (who happen to be of Asian) because of size issues .. my gf and her friends are also Asian and being all 5 feet 4 it'll be alright. |

im Filipino, 5'11 160lbs winter fat ..i fit just fine in a mx5. In my FC3S the stock TII seats were fine too..But when i swapped for JDM infini bucket seats i had a bit of some struggle in getting comfortable due to being a little tight on the hip and shoulders. I suspect that i wont have much of an issue in the BRZ/FRS. Especially since im starting my spring diet and dropping to 145lbs by summer.
|
I am 5'9'' 145-150 lbs. I am very skinny so the seats sound like they were made for me. My RSX have a similar shape to the FR-S seats. The back seats will get ripped out no matter what. I want it to be a true 2 seater with rear space for my laptop or other stuff I'd like to throw in the back. Your description of the car doesn't even bother me. It actually excites me more.
|
I'm 5'10'' and 175. The BRZ has pretty standard performance seats....so they'll squeeze my shoulders a little (which isn't really that uncomfortable even for long trips). I fit in a Miata and Elise just fine. Every review I've seen has said the seats are great, including the ones from Car and Driver, who normally comment if the vehicle feels like it's attempting to strangle you.
I can't really picture how a 5'7'' 145lb guy could not fit in a car like this. And the rear seats are there primarily because they can accomodate a child seat, which is going to be a major selling point for the target market of this car....young males. A lot of young males have discovered that putting a nickel in the juke-box gets you a song. |

If you're not happy in the ****pit of this car, I doubt you'll be happy sitting in an S2000. Sounds like a 3400 lb. behemoth is what you really want. [funny, it lets me say "ass", but not C O C K pit.] |
I felt fine in the driver seat, I am 6'3" 240 lbs.
|
I saw the new GC in person and its even uglier up close.

I'm 5'8" and 140lbs so this is actually pleasing news to me. But my question is how is everyone sitting in her already? I was at the Philly auto show and it was roped off.

That said I haven't ruled the car out yet, it's still first on my list I'm just giving first impressions. @ZDan I just personally don't want the rear seats, and especially with the lack of extra storage I'll build something that works for me back there...and no I'm not worried about the added weight of whatever I put there...though I will be cognizant about the weight when it comes to design. |
Honestly, why aren't the front seats more indented towards the front of the car on the rear of the seats? Isn't this a simple design fix to allow more knee-room for rear-passengers?
Anyone know what i'm referring to? |
Well this is good news. I'm 6'3" and 215lbs. and I was planning on taking out the drivers seats and driving from the rear seat anyway. This just makes me feel better for throwing out a prefectly good pair of seats. I'll let you guys know how the rear ones do in the corners and on long road trips. ;)

One thing my friends and I discussed while being in the BRZ was, if the Steering wheel was a flat bottom like for an example a GTI there would be huge amount of knee room and extra room for the back passengers because you can push more forward. I'm blant on the GTI steering wheel, but I can see it's use. Not sure how it would feel on the BRZ though... that and Round steering wheels are sorta I dunno they just feel better.
Just food for the thought I guess |
6'6, 210 here ----> seat was snug, but isn't that the point? It's a sports car, not a Lincoln Town Car. When I'm flying through a switchback or taking it to an autocross course, I don't want to be flopping around in my seat. I think they got it right.

I'm sure OP isnt use to sport seats since that really is the only way I can see his post making sense when 6+ feet guys 200+ guys are sitting in it and loving it

I just got back from the DC show, talked to "John" from regional offices (NJ? i believe). Told me that the limited BRZ will be 27,999 and 24,999 for premium. I joked that they really did get it "under" 25k for premium. He replied "yah this will be a very low volume, 3000 for this year alone." He said the first sales start in early May.
For the car itself, im 5,7 160 lbs, the seats feel amazing. The lack of arm rest isn't too worrisome. There is definitely no leg room in the back. I dont even think there's room for 4 wheels even though he keeps telling me that 4 wheels will definitely fit. The car is smaller than I thought. I saw the new miata on display (price tag $27,848) and i thought that was bigger. The car doesn't grab ur attention but the more you walk around it and admire every detail and sit inside, it feels just right. I did not like the little bumper in front of the grill though. Look kinda cheap on a limited. For 28k though, its a hard choice, I wasn't able to get info from the scion booth all they said was under 25k which we all knew. For 28k the new WRX is very tempting. OH for the VIP program, he said its possible but its tough to negotiate with the dealer themselves and most likely to just wait a year after it comes out. I also checked out the new GC and to be honest its not so bad in person. The vents could go away though. looks kinda cheesy. The interior had nice leather. I felt it was more spacious. We went in the morning and a kind gentleman let us in, but when we came back later in the afternoon they werent letting anyone in at all which was a shame I couldnt take pics of the interior. Will add pics after dinner, ill try to answer any questions as best I can |

I have a question for you Subie fans, who have purchased cars in the past. If we assume the limited MSRP is indeed $27,999, what would you expect the invoice price to be based on similarly priced subies ? |
This is going to be the perfect car for me. I can fit in just about any car. In my Z i have plenty of room and I am 6 foot 2 180 pounds!
I can fit in a S2000, even a miata...(That is tight though) So i see no reason why a BRZ or FR-S would be a perfect fit! Headroom should be good since there is no sunroof. I could care less for people in the back. I only want petite fine women riding back there anyways....LMAO! Maybe this guy is pretty wide. It happens. Or maybe he just did not like it. So will hate this car. To each their own. The Genesis is too damn big and heavy! |
hmmm....a price rumor... that souds very close to predictions...it's not bad actually. Might push my self harder for the BRZ lol

Wait, so you said the stock seats are too tight for you, and yet you want to swap out for "Racing" seats? Have you ever sat in a proper race seat? If you think a stock sport bucket is too tight, you're in for a world of hurt.
I'm not hating or anything, just pointing it out because I used to daily drive a fixed Recaro and it became HELL after awhile. |
