MightyMeeple 05-05-2013 07:13 PM

There are a lot of knowledgable folks in the forum willing to help out! Perhaps you could provide some details to help get some meaningful info to you:

-What are your goals for new tires/ wheels? Performance, looks, both?
-what size wheel do you want? Do you like the current 17 inch look?
-Are you modding your suspension/springs/ride height?
-What finish do you want?

It's great that you have a target budget, these additional details will help you get some relevant info.

ebay wheel and tire specials

scionfr_s 05-05-2013 07:50 PM

I'm looking 18"x8.5/9.5 either black or white finish. For look but still do a good job of performane. After I get the rims, I'll install eibach spring 1" lower.

cdo221 05-05-2013 08:00 PM

$1000 - is that for both tires and wheels? If so, you'll probably have to look for used wheels... or less brand-name wheel. Maybe check out Rota, XXR, or Drag wheels - good quality wheels on a budget - they'll be heavy though

For tires, how much are you willing to stretch the tires?

Opposed 05-05-2013 08:25 PM

^^^ Good question. They are not 18's, but they are 17.9's, light weight at 17.8 lbs, and good quality. They were just a tad over $1k shipped.

Search craigslist or the forum for your area. Occasionally you can get a steal on wheels and tires. Just be patient.

scionfr_s 05-05-2013 09:45 PM

Just check out the XXR 530 or XXR 527 lol they look good and not that expensive.

IloveBaldEagles 05-05-2013 10:29 PM

XXR weigh almost as much as the OEM wheels, they would be good for looks but will not get you a lot of performance. If you can save up a little more and go to $1500 then you can get wheels that are light and look good. RPF1 maybe? And if you care color picky, save up a little more and powder coat them to any color you want.

scionfr_s 05-05-2013 10:57 PM

My budgets is for both tires and rims lol so save up a little more is still too much for me lol

frslee 05-05-2013 11:37 PM

You'll end up with bad tires with $1,000 wheels + tires.

Just be patient, set that $1,000 aside and save up some more. You'll end up with A LOT better looking, performing wheels and better tires.

YDNA 05-05-2013 11:45 PM

save your money, dont rock replica wheels.

tisb0b 05-05-2013 11:50 PM

Just exploit the used market as quality rims with a bit of gutter rash seem to lose their value rather quickly.

OmarGC 05-06-2013 02:43 AM

buy some xxr's and some Indonesian or Taiwanese tire...

Lol agreed, but will that still fit in a 1k budget.. Rims can be had for around 150 each, they make 100$ 18" tires.. Hell even if they did, idk if I'd run them.. But then working at discount tire I seen 40k+ on tires that cost 25$ on old ford escorts lol.. Would perform like shit, hell maybe even the stock tire would out perform them ..

lol dude when I lived in Japan we used to order Indo and Taiwanese tires all the time for drift events... Never paid more then 80 USD for 17s or 18s. It was pretty much hit or miss... ran some that bubbled like crazy due to the excessive heat, some chunked like crazy, and some were awesome and turned almost hard plastic like. LOL

ilpad 05-06-2013 04:04 AM

I would say save up til u get to $1600. You can get Rotas and a decent rubber on them for 1600.

The OP could plastidip if just wanted a different look, but yeah $1000 for new is just to low, or else you'll get some really bad quality wheels and tires.

chulooz 05-06-2013 04:32 AM

used Rotas are your best bet... spend your money on tires, they are many drivers biggest performance upgrade.

scionfr_s 05-06-2013 08:28 AM

Mayb I just gonna get XXR wheels than wait couple months to get a good quality tires lol

frslee 05-06-2013 10:53 AM

meh,, skip xxr. Get at least rotas..

acro 05-06-2013 11:47 AM

JoeBoxer 05-06-2013 11:55 AM

17X8.25 +35 XXR 527's on stock tires with Eibach springs, i could have them to you for $800...

scionfr_s 05-06-2013 12:50 PM

I already have Eibach spring.. I want 18" rims. Is there any set up around my budgets??

636 05-06-2013 01:42 PM

No.

brianlo622 05-06-2013 03:23 PM

$1000 wheels and tires will be a DOWNGRADE, not an upgrade.

Even if you can find a package for that money, they will either be some horribly HEAVY wheels, or weak ones that cracks/bents easily, and the tires will be very unsafe.

For example, these:

http://www.tirereview.com/Article/65...ty_levels.aspx

Question is, why did you get a brand new $26k car and DOWNGRADE from the factory equipment, just to be "different" and tell the world that "oh my car is modded?"

If you can't afford it, dont do it yet until you can, that will be my advice.

MVJ1975 05-06-2013 03:38 PM

Even with 17s that's not really reasonable. My stock size setup cost more than that for the wheels alone, and they're not terribly expensive wheels either. With the tires I was around $2000.

If you really want 18" wheels and tires of decent quality, you're going to have to save a bit more.

Leonardo 05-06-2013 05:59 PM

I got cheap 17's that were 2lbs lighter and a half inch wider. I used the stock tires till they were done. Later, I upgraded the tires.

I bought new Michelin tires, 225/45/17 all around. $900 installed with $100 rebate. So $800 total.

To be honest, tires are more important in my opinion than wheels for how the car performs. Wheels are more important for how the car looks. It is up to you on how you want to balance these two aspects of the car. For 1000 you will have to make some sort of compromise. :(

ilpad 05-06-2013 06:12 PM

I too would recommend looking on the used scene and try to find something you like. May take a month or two, but if your hardline budget is 1k, then this will be your best bet. I do agree with the above posters that a 1k purchase for both wheels and tires could potentially end up being a downgrade. Someone above recommended plasti dipping your stockers for the time being and saving up some more cash and getting something that youll like and will perform well. I think that may be the best idea for you overall. Nice thing about plasti dip is that its really quite easy to do and actually looks fantastic. If you want to see some good examples of plasti dip on stock wheels Id recommend jumping over to the subaru modders forums, those guys love the plasti on their stock wheels. You also have a whiteout, so you can pretty much plasti dip any color you want and it will look good. Go neon orange imo :)

Anyway, your car stock is still awesome, so i would say dont stress it. :)

You can get the ESM BBS replicas for under $600 in 8.5/9.5 staggered on ebay. I was tempted, they do look nice, though not sure if they are available in black

Oops my bad looks like 8/9 staggered not 8.5/9.5

dori. 05-06-2013 08:19 PM

there should be a challenge to get the lightest wheels and best tire for 1k

abutterman 05-06-2013 09:13 PM

check out wheelfire.com they have packages in the $1000 range but depending what you pick, at that price you're generally either getting crappy rims or crappy tires.

eurominican 05-06-2013 09:53 PM

I glanced through the first page and didnt see any posts regarding budgeting for tire mounting/TPMS swap costs plus balancing (-+ $130), and alignment ($130-$170 done right) as well as tuner lug nuts ($40 to $100+) these things will be close to $300 or more that the OP is most probably not budgeting for. Just FYI

OmarGC 05-06-2013 10:25 PM

LOL You get/got raped on pricing @eurominican...

scionfr_s 05-06-2013 10:31 PM

Haha so there are a lot negative comments so I might just gonna plasti dip the wheels for now and save more money to get better combo lol

I think youll be more happy with this solution. Theres a few good guides on how to plasti dip your wheels around the web. Just watch a how to do it and make sure your surface is super clean. Dont worry about overspray. the more overspray the easier it is to clean off!

U going to go with a wild color or just be boring and do black?

try walmart/swap meet spinners
