Livue LB100 stealth mount

Thought I'd share my discreet behind-the-mirror dashcam setup.

It's a Livue LB100 from Korea. It's a small-ish dash cam. The mounting bracket for it mounts on a ball joint and uses permanent adhesive rather than a suction cup (the camera itself still clips in and out). I've got it and my EZ Pass behind the mirror, positioned so that I can't see either from the driver's seat. Cord for the camera goes across the headliner, down the A-pillar, and into the glovebox. No disassembly or anything, just wedged it in the gap. I removed the faceplate of the dash cam. It was originally a gloss black with a silver logo and a silver cylindrical lens housing. I plasti-dipped it black to make it less conspicuous, and did the same with my EZ Pass - removed the sticker, plasti-dipped it, and put the sticker back on.

Looks like a nice stealth install.

How is the daytime vs. nightime picture quality?

nalc 05-06-2013 07:58 AM

Daytime was decent, it's clear where other vehicles are, but license plates are hard to read unless they're very close. I'm going to try increasing the picture quality in the configuration - I think I'm at "good" or "high", and it goes up to a "very good" or "very high".

I haven't driven at night since the installation.

I bought the LB100 per the recommendations of this site

Nice picture, I'm using the same LB100 dashcam and did the plastidip trick too.

Good camera so far, just beware that the bulit-in low batt protection has too low a threshold to save the battery on the twins, as I found out after leaving my car parked for a week and coming back to a dead battery.

For 100 this looks great. How many hours of video can it record before it starts overwriting? (in high and good quality). Can it take 64gb sd cards?

that could be a bit of a problem. haven't found any work arounds?
edit: nm you can set it on timer as well
" The low voltage cut-off will turn off the camera You can also set a time for battery discharge prevention from 2 hours to 48 hours or even unlimited or completely disabled"

Sweet find.. I'm wondering if this or other dash cams allow live wifi "snooping" of the camera if they are on the same wifi signal.. Had a weird incident last week at my friends where a empy tow truck was lurking around in front of the car.. Without my buddies camera setup, I might have never seen a possible attempt to snag the car.

Nice install!

I think the 16GB card it comes with is rated for 7hrs of video, I popped in a 32GB card just to add more capacity.

As far as the problem with parking mode draining the battery because the power saver voltage threshold is too low for the 86, I solved that in a simple way, if I know my car is going to be parked for a week or more (due to work or weather), I just unplug the power chord on the dashcam itself, that way I can plug it back in when I return and start using the car regularly but it prevents the drain from parking mode during weeks when I have to leave it parked for extended periods.

Hopefully the voltage sensor threshold will become adjustable in the bios sometime.

It doesn't have wifi access like some of the $300 dashcams, but overall great small dashcam for the $100 price IMHO.

I've got it hooked up to the glovebox outlet, which I thought was switched with the ignition - is that not the case?

Was thinking about picking up this cam. Thanks for the tip, will probably do the plasti-dip like you to keep it stealth.

Do you know where those settings are? I want to turn the quality up on mine if possible.

Ok. I'll have to try doing it on my PC. I was trying to do it on my MacBook Pro running Windows 7 and it didn't seem to work right.

If it doesn't work, try the "Current Winy Viewer" (not the new one) here:
http://www.winycam-eng.com/support/support_03.php

Winy cam and Livue is actually made by the same company. I bought my Livue LB100 from a korean seller on eBay. Manual and all the software it came with was in Korean but I did some research and found the Winy cam software works perfectly with the Livue LB100.

1. DL and install the Winy current software.
2. Stick in the micro SD card
3. Open winy software, click "find" so it recognizes your card (on the right side, closer to the top).
4. Click Config at the top of the software, then adjust everything and click OK.
5. Eject your card safely and all done.

Yeah, bought mine from eBay too. Everything Korean. I think it has the Winy firmware on it already too. I just want to adjust anything to how I would like it. Thanks for the help.

When my Livue records.... it records in 30 sec clips. I just used the factory firmware. Is the Winy firmware a fix for this also?

No, It still does the 30 sec clips. Mine even sometimes randomly turns off for a second then turns back on.
