Creaking/Clinking Noise from Driver Side
So lately my cars been having this weird creaking/clinking sound from the driver side of the car. I think it's coming from the front left wheel well or maybe even something in the engine, i'm not sure...
I took it into my local subaru dealer about a week ago and they did the TSB for the rear deck panel "popping noise". I'm now realizing that this sound is entirely different. It happens almost every time i'm going from 1st-2nd or downshifting from 3rd-2nd in somewhat rough terrain and/or when i'm going into a turn. I live in Tucson, AZ and the roads here are god awful with bumps and potholes everywhere. I'm trying to figure out what exactly this sound could be coming from so I can tell the mechanics over at Subaru or fix it myself. Any ideas..? |
Does the noise increase as the wheels spin faster?

What suspension mods do you have?

None.

I believe I have this same issue, sounds like its coming from the driver side rear tire for me. At first I just thought it was a rock caught in the tread, but its not consistent enough.
|
Update: The sound is actually coming from the back left wheel well area... I can reproduce it by starting in 1st, revving to about 2,000rpm and then launching.
|
I've had an intermittent squeak coming from somewhere on the drivers side for months. Have yet to determine what causes it.
|
Well the sound seems to be more along the lines of a rock bouncing off the spokes of my rim, only a little louder... If you can imagine that.. heh.

Yes. We seem to have the exact same issue. My car is going to the dealer next Wednesday for another issue. I'll announce the sound to them when we go on the drive and I'll update if they find anything.

Cool. just keep me posted. Unfortunately I can't take my car into the dealer for another week or so.. driving home from university

Sub'd to find out more info on this. I just noticed this the other night. It sounds like a suspension component is loose in the front end.

Are you sure it's not the seat/seatbelt by any chance? I've noticed mine seems to make a small squeak occasionally.

Don't some manufacturers include anti-click washers inbetween the half-shafts and wheel hub? IIRC the phenomena is where there is a sudden slip between the two surfaces and it makes a clicking type sound. The idea behind the washer is that it makes this slip slower/controlled and the noise goes away.
Do know that I've been searching google for an example of this and I can't find any. I may be making this up. :iono: Edit: found example! http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/n.../03-006-04.pdf |
I thought your issue might be similar to mine but it doesn't like it is.
I'll state mine anyway, in case someone else comes across it. My clicking noise in the wheel/tire area was related to tire pressure. Tire pressure was low but the TPMS light did not come on. Easy fix. |
I am wondering if anyone has a slight clicking noise when accelerating in 1st or second gear? Its very slight, but you can really hear it with the window down (driver side)

edit: Maybe not louder but it will become more prominent during spirited driving. |
Hey man same issue here. I was in the hill country today keeping up with the Vette club out here and I had my traction control on since I wasn't familiar with the hair pin turns. There were a few times I made a hard right turn shifting the weight of the car to the back drivers side when it caught traction. I noticed once I stopped at a light and was in 1st and 2nd taking off relatively normal speeds. I found a thread on here that states it is most likely the CV boot into the hub or an issue with the diff. Bringing it into the stealership on Monday...
