Launch Control on Auto?

Is there going to be launch control on the auto? The IS-F does not have it... :bonk:

Guff 01-27-2012 07:34 PM

No.

I don't see what the purpose would be anyway, we aren't going to beat many people in a straight line...

zoomzoomers 01-27-2012 07:53 PM

Launch control is your left foot! :party0030:

Dave-ROR 01-27-2012 08:38 PM

Huh hold brake floor it and release brake.

Nah, it's your right foot. Right foot brake, left foot gas...let revs climb and then let go.

So you have to cross your legs?

That's the JDM way.

Nope. Pedals stay the same, shift pattern stays the same, but the damn wipers and turn signals are reversed. Serious.

Also noticed quoted you in their sig regarding a JDM girlfriend. Go for the English-speaking JDM option.

chaoskaze 01-27-2012 09:14 PM

Since Launch Control is really for cars with berzillion horse power, I don't think 86 need one at all. =p Use left foot plz.

merlin2111 01-27-2012 09:53 PM

Launch control, bringing us from 0-60 in 6.8 rather than 7 seconds.

I was being facetious :D

mastawyrm 01-27-2012 11:58 PM

I thought launch control was for auto clutch systems like dsg and smog because there is no other way to do a fast, hard launch like you can with your own clutch pedal or doing a brake stand with a torque converter automatic.

Ah, shit. You know what I meant. :(

Repyt 01-28-2012 10:21 AM

But can it do wheelies?

There's no need for LC in this car because you can just launch it off the brake. Stall it up to like 2000 and release the brake. It's not great for the car and the trans is going to get mighty hot if you do it for too long, but that's how most stock automatic drivers drag race.

That's how I leave the line at 13PSI in my WRX. I also have an external trans cooler so I don't cook the trans.

Holy shit, someone bought an automatic WRX.

PO was a middle-aged lady and this car has ~67K miles currently; unheard of for a 2002 model. Still fun despite the slushbox. Are you a manual elitist or something?

OrbitalEllipses 01-28-2012 07:16 PM

Shit, it's easier to launch, it's easy to drive, and I don't wear out my shoulder (rugby injury). My FR-S (or BRZ?) will be manual, though the automatic they've attached to it is actually a good unit.

Too bad they don't sell like they're rare :mad0260:

Curious... if you know the IS-F does not have launch control, why would the BRZ/FRS/86 have it?

OrbitalEllipses 01-30-2012 01:48 AM

I know which I'd rather have.

rayman0690 01-30-2012 09:43 AM

I would say No in stock form. If someone cracks the ECU or goes standalone I'm sure one could tune in the feature. But would you really need it? My guess (as others have stated)...is no.

Are there any torque converter automatics with launch control?

My Evo X MR with dual clutch tranny has it :party0030:

Doesn't apply... Buy a rotor if you think that's true.

If it's engineered and designed properly, it should not break for a long, long time (being an electrical part).

No, launch control is harder on the drivetrain. Remember all those GTRs that broke trannies back in 09? Launch Control.

That's a function of the calibration more than anything.
