Different key fob for BRZ limited?

did anybody get a different keyfob? Like an aftermarket one or something lol just wondering

Kwisak 04-20-2013 10:22 AM

I've seen Sti covers for it on subarus website, which is basically a leather cover with red stiching. You might check that out

that's pretty cool, i dislike the plastic simple look. I understand its reason but its not that much to make a key look better lol

AznBRZer 04-20-2013 05:41 PM

Is there a place to get them that won't cost me $150?

dustinlenguyen 04-20-2013 06:19 PM

Japan Parts has them for $50ish.

Too bad it is missing the panic button.... I was tempted too.

AznBRZer 04-22-2013 12:27 AM

I'm still debating. It's cheaper to buy a couple and protect the fob from getting destroyed in your pocket with keys instead of buying a new one, but it's still a $50+ leather cover for a remote that'll get wrecked from your keys...and it doesn't even say BRZ!:D

aceangel 04-22-2013 08:01 PM

I got a carbon fiber style cover off of ebay:

I've got no need for buttons except on rare occasions.

Search for "jdm smart key cover carbon fiber"

Looking around it seems that the BRZ key fob is the same as the prius key fob.
This is all the covers i know about some are generic and are only about 15 dollars, others are STI and are about 150. Personally i like the JPM and the man-engineering ones.

You don't need to lock your car or use the trunk often? :iono:

The Limited can be locked by touching the outside of the door handle with the key in your pocket. Trunk opens when you have the key in your pocket and you try to physically open the trunk. There is also a button inside the car that opens the trunk. Ive used my buttons very little.

SkullWorks 04-23-2013 02:44 PM

with a limited the buttons really are nearly un-used, only time i use mine is if I have a passenger and it isn't a female, that way they can get in at the same time and i don't have to wait.

(obviously ladies get the door opened and held)

I never knew these things and I've had my limited for a while. I feel like a noob. :happy0180:

Maybe I'll get bored and make a billet aluminum case that you can swap the guts into.

Turbowned 04-23-2013 08:31 PM

You could steal the key case from a 2014 Forester with keyless access; the would at least give you a real emblem:

Sorry for huuuuge pic.

You can enable the setting to unlock both doors when you grab the driver's side handle. It's in the manual. I did that because I carpool with my boss. I walk up, grab my door, and his is open by the time he throws his laptop bag in the trunk.

Kwisak 04-23-2013 10:27 PM

I would have to say i agree, now that i think about it i don't think i have ever used my fob, just keep in in my pocket, but still for those who want them there do seem to be a lot of options

For the limited: Open the driver door with the car off, hold down the lock and panic buttons on the key fob for approx 5 seconds.
When you let go the car should beep. Now both doors will unlock when you touch the door handle.

I reprogrammed it so that touching the door handle unlocks both doors :D so much easier! Keys hardly ever come out of pocket.

I went the route of getting the STI case and sticking an emblem from another case on it. It may not have a spot for the panic button, but you can see an indentation from it once you've had it in your pocket a few times.

AznBRZer 04-24-2013 10:16 AM

Nice. I have two on the way!

BRZNutt 04-24-2013 08:32 PM

I have that one on my other key fob; it doesn't look that good if you have it anywhere near any real carbon fiber. I ended up popping the emblem off it and putting it with the STI case...

Did you have to pay $200 for that?? I called my dealer and they said you can just buy the emblem itself and that's about $9... From the 2014 Forester.

Just not sure if it will fit and if it is what I'm looking for.

Draco-REX 04-24-2013 10:32 PM

I think I remember reading on a thread here that the internals can be transplanted into a Lexus proximity fob.

The downside is that a new Lexus fob is some stupid amount of $$

Hell no! I work at a dealer. I'm just going to swap key cases when no one's looking.

aceangel 04-25-2013 11:28 AM

Nice, I gotta order that emblem!

sbxjap 04-27-2013 05:18 PM

True that we don't use the buttons... But feels incomplete missing the panic button hole. Then again, why do I care since the fob buttons have been used maybe 3 times in the year I've had it.

The choices... Hmm..

Did you have to go through the dealer to reprogram that? Or is there a setting somewhere so you can do it manually?

I know about the driver's door unlocking when touching the handle but did you have to get the dealer to change the setting so it unlocks both doors when you touch one handle?
