Hit Racoon, Grill Problem?

Welp, I hit an animal for the first time EVER in a car.

I was doing 27-30mph around a turn, and this little bastard jumped out literally at the last half second, giving me no time to react and, well, I just plowed his ass like the prom queen on prom night.

Saw a flash of him, then a bang, then some more weird noises. Then silence.

Then all of a sudden I hear the delicious sound of bones and other things being thrashed around and torn in and out of my wheel well, or under my car, or something...

Then a loud thud and I feel a sigh of relief from my car. Then my rear wheel runs whatever is left of him over.

Although, when I did get out of the car...he wasn't there! That's besides the point.

When I got out to check the damage, it appeared he just pretty much blew through my front grill, knocking every clip off, breaking one, and pissing on my car.

Welp, I went to where I was going, and plugged all the tabs back in. (God that's a bitch.) But something is still off, those top tabs. I don't ever remember it looking like that, so I don't think it's right.

Do you guys know how to move/pop in those tabs? They wouldn't budge. Thanks!

And RIP.

lol cool story, take out the bumper and see the damage

Fish 04-19-2013 02:43 AM

Crazy. Should probably put it up in the air and make sure it didn't get lodged somewhere underneath since you said it wasn't there anymore. I've seen it happen. Not fun.

I'll check it out tomorrow, haha. I drove ~65 miles right after this happened, so I can't imagine it's still up in there, but I'll check.

Bach415 04-19-2013 03:00 AM

I'd say to take off the bumper and manually check for any other issues that could be affected when hitting the racoon. If not just push the grill in and resnap it from the top to the sides then the bottom

Kelbyat07 04-19-2013 03:04 AM

Haha get it checked out.

"well, I just plowed his ass like the prom queen on prom night." LMAO

We had a shipping container with a couple of cars arrive at our facility with a dead rabbit in it. Now imagine that it was sealed for weeks on a boat coming from Germany. We spent a lot of time trying to get rid of the smell. Needless to say, you can still smell it from time to time. lol

What other types of damages should I be looking for?

lsxiong 04-19-2013 03:54 AM

You should braise it first before grilling; takes away a little of the gamey flavor.

Just check if anything has became cracked, loosen, or broken when you hit the raccoon because it seemed like you're not sure if you hit the raccoon full on with your bumper(or grill) or that it just went under your car and into your wheel wells. In my opinion, there doesn't seem like anything has been damage besides the grill popping off, but its better to check and be safe.

Lol that description of the crunching was terrible.

FR-Slide 04-19-2013 04:01 PM

If you're having grill problems, I feel bad for you son.
I got 99 problems, but a racoon ain't one...

#87 04-19-2013 04:03 PM

so I'm drunk and i read this title "hit bacon, girl problem" LOL

Khalis 04-19-2013 04:05 PM

I know this is a terrible thing to happen, but I can't stop laughing.

HunterGreene 04-19-2013 04:13 PM

Glad that your car wasnt more damaged..seems like an easy fix.

On an off-topic story, I was following an Acura around dusk when a deer came out of NOWHERE (literally jumped off the ridge next to the road) and plowed into the front bumper of the Acura. I coudlnt see the front of the car (the guy just kept driving), but you have to imagine his front bumper was completely destroyed.

Just pulled up on the grill, and it popped in!

briang0901 04-19-2013 08:25 PM

Worse things could've happened, good thing it only broke 1 clip...

Deadspool 04-19-2013 08:59 PM

As a prom queen on prom night, I find your post offensive.

Grill problem?

1. Skin raccoon
2. Slice off choice portions
3. Season with salt, pepper and a dash of thyme
4. Grill to perfection, I recommend charcoal
5. Serves 3 - 4

hey someone else hit something with thei white r fr-s like me. Not an armadillo at 80, which completely destroyed my front underpanels, caved my bumper, and yes dislodged my grill, but now i don't feel so bad.

lol

sevi21 04-20-2013 12:06 PM

Well that story just cracked me up man, sorry about that damn bandit running in front of you though

Ryeong86 04-20-2013 12:59 PM

Maybe the racoon was saying: Hey you need a new grill!. I think he secretly helped you out so you can get a better looking grill.... lol

But yeah.. I would wash my car.. I could only imagine what racoon urine could do to your paint...

xbreed 04-20-2013 01:22 PM

Great thread lol. Hope you get the grill all figured out.

Cade01 04-20-2013 03:26 PM

I did the same thing to the biggest Jack Rabbit I've ever seen, but at about 45-50mph. The rabbit did the same thing to my grill including breaking one of the tabs off the bumper. The tabs have to go in certain spots in the grill, I think there were actually little holes or slots they went into. It may be easier to pull the covers off of the bottom of the bumper than to remove the whole thing, but you will have to manipulate the bumper to get the tabs lined up properly.
