Broken into

2 Attachment(s)
Well as you can see someone broke into my car, they stole my GF's purse no credit cards or anything, but car/house keys and the $200 purse. Worst part is Before we went exploring into the zoo she had said "should I put my purse in the trunk?" I replied "Nah" so I guess I have to listen to what she says now...maybe.

Umbie 04-17-2013 06:59 PM

Truly sorry to hear this. Get those locks changed on your house and be thankful more important items weren't taken. Best of luck in resolving this and getting that window replaced!

Wilsonk227 04-17-2013 07:01 PM

omg that sucks so bad :( terrible people nowadays, hope you guys have camera footage or something :(

Rayme 04-17-2013 07:07 PM

People steal at the zoo? This sucks bros!

Ganthrithor 04-17-2013 07:10 PM

This sucks for you. Never, ever leave anything that could possibly be construed as valuable in the passenger compartment of a car. I had a roommate at one point who had her window broken over a beaten, ancient ipod. People will steal fucking anything.

I know WTF?! Did they want that extra monkey toy???

Anyway, sorry to hear about the theft, but at least it's minor and nobody was injured. A window can easily be replaced. You're peace of mind on the other hand isn't. So take it for what it is and shrug it off.

sklimo 04-17-2013 07:46 PM

People suck :paddle: . So sorry that happened to you. And like above post said change locks at the house ASAP

Edit. Not all people, theiving ass POS fu@#ers who steal.

ST185RC 04-17-2013 07:54 PM

My brother's ITR got broken into, stolen was his pack of Excel which was old and stale, through 3 summers. I hope the thieves choke. Doesn't matter in this world anymore, people break in for no reason.

BRZranger 04-17-2013 08:10 PM

One cool feature is when you lock the doors (via key fob), the trunk cannot be opened with the cabin trunk release button, even if you unlock the doors from inside.

That said, never leave valuables in the cabin or be seen putting your purse/bag in your trunk after parking. Unfortunately there are bad people who watch victims do this and break into the trunk/cabin. Just as bad is putting the purse under the car seat (not that there's space under our seats for that).

Good thing is that banks are pretty good about reversing fraudulent charges. Sucky part is paying for new window, around $200+ and ours is not generally in stock...

aceangel 04-17-2013 09:29 PM

@sharris721 did you enable the BRZ's alarm?

Yes I did, I forgot to ask the ranger if they heard the alarm or not. When I got to the car the rangers left a note. I'll be talking with the ranger that discovered it tomorrow.

Doborder 04-17-2013 10:53 PM

That sucks...

DeepHunta 04-17-2013 11:23 PM

DAMN IT! Sorry bud. Best of luck on resolution. Let us know how much the repairs cost.

And on a fellow GBS Mafia member at that. It hurts :(

The only thing I leave visible for most of the time is an old gen iPod and a cap. Everything is either in glove box or trunk.

jskurucz 04-18-2013 12:00 AM

Did they steal your antenna, as well?

ktulu7 04-18-2013 12:34 AM

Whew, that stuff happens a LOT here in San Antonio if one isn't careful... That is lousy, but thankfully at least you do still have your car!

Si_Chris 04-18-2013 12:51 AM

So wait, was the purse in plain sight or hidden in the glove box, or under the seat?

If it was in plain sight, no duh someone will break your window for a purse.

Good catch! No they didn't, I replaced it with a button head bolt.

The rangers said no one reported an alarm going off. I don't believe our cars have window sensors for the alarm.

Her purse was on the floor board, my mistake, one that I won't forget.

Mitch 04-18-2013 10:47 AM

Good luck. When my BRZ was broken into last year it took a full month to get a replacement window.

norsamerican 04-18-2013 10:51 AM

Maybe get some tint work done in the even that you accidently leave something in plain view in the future?

jadewbj 04-18-2013 11:49 AM

I make sure I never leave anything out to tempt them to break my window.

Probably just did a smash n grab through the window anyway. Alarm won't be set off by that unless you have an aftermarket shock/motion sensor type system.

Sorry you have to deal with this. By the way, looks like the rubber edging towards the B pillar is messed up - did they try to squeeze a crowbar through there or something or was that like that before the glass smash?

Yeah, alarms don't help much against this. It takes less than one second to commit the act. Perhaps someone was someone suspicious scoping out car windows?

I'm thinking the indent is from using a tool to smash the glass. If you're near the area, check the nearby roadsides and trash cans; sometimes they ditch the stuff they don't need.

slobaru86 04-18-2013 12:33 PM

My next mod will be Tint and a good aftermarket alarm.
Sorry about what happened to your car and hopefully they catch the low-life

Rustyspoon 04-18-2013 12:40 PM

This is why I don't bother locking the doors. If I leave something valuable in the car and it gets stolen its my own fault. At least then your not out a window as well. Good luck getting a new window.

This is why I leave my key in the car with the windows rolled down. If the car gets stolen, then it's my own damn fault. At least I'm not out a steering column and a window or two.

I dont know if that's the route I would go, would hate to come back to my car after a soup kitchen had taken place

If your GF reads this post, she'll be your EX-GF......:thanks: :bonk: Trunks aren't just for elephants.

sharris721 04-18-2013 05:03 PM

An ice cream shop found her purse with nothing missing! Now I'm only out the deductible ($100) and not being able to drive my car for awhile.

Also I want to thank everyone for their kind words and advice, it feels really good to be a part of this community.

aceangel 04-18-2013 05:34 PM

I'm glad you got your stuff back! That's awesome. Now I'm thinking I should get a better alarm...

sharris721 04-26-2013 03:45 PM

Got it back today, cost $1855.10 but I only had to pay $100

:eyebulge:

wow! Didn't think it would cost half that

ihaskrayon 04-26-2013 05:26 PM

Did the ice cream shop ID the people that left the purse there?

Lonewolf 04-26-2013 07:23 PM

Wow, the cost of that damage was insane. All the more reason to spring for tint and an alarm.

I've owned many cars over the years, lived in sketchy neighborhoods, and have never had my car's cabin broken into (knocks on wood). I would like to think its because I always have tint, an alarm, and don't leave anything in plain view.

That's outrageous! I'd expect exactly that if somebody broke anything on my car with force the alarm should go off!

blacknbean 04-26-2013 08:13 PM

happened to me before. went to dinner and came back 1 hr later with a smashed window and someone stole my backpack that only had a change of clothes since i was staying at my gf place :mad0259:

trunk only from now on.

Funny story, I know someone who leaves their keys in the vehicle at work, kind of a dumb thing to do but if someone wants to risk losing their vehicle then that's their business.

It was probably a monkey, just visiting his relatives.

What, I'm not being racist.
