attempt to make a deposit...
So i spoke to my local dealer Peter Warren Toyota. i asked him if i could make a deposit on the 86 since it is coming soon. The guy looked at me blankly and went "it is? we don't have anything on our database about it no stock dates, I haven't heard anything from my higher ups. how do you know all this?" my mind just went checkmate for a second and thought "shall i tell this guy i'm from a forum or shall i just play and keep him hanging....nah, i'll see what happens when if i say i'm from a forum" "i'm from a forum and there are many people in Australia that has already made deposits" his like "ahh ok, listen, people on forums are only assuming, they don't know anything. If we (the dealers) don't know the pricing and stock dates, i don't know how they could possibly make a deposit. But i have experienced and seen people make deposits of $2000 on cars that has been confirmed on a stock date but the car has not been yet released. Listen, i'll talk to my higher ups and other dealers if they got any lead on this, what's your last name (his already got my first name) and number" so i gave him my name and number and i've also added "my mates from QLD and Sydney already made their deposits" he goes "alright, i'll see what info i can get you"
i don't know how you guys do it! while typing this up, i got a call back with in an hour... "Hi, so i've spoken to my higher ups and they said that the pricing will be released late May and orders will be taken in June-July, Pricing could be around $40k - $45K Drive Away. Alright? anything else i could help you with?" me literally doing this:confused0068: instead of playing the poker face "40 to 45k drive away..." Dealer goes "yes sir, it'll be around there, you can have a up close look and feel of it in June, i'll call you as soon as i get anymore info on it." wow....dam....i think i might go to Subaru maybe?? i'll have to talk to them when i get a chance. |
But as the dealer man said, they don't have any prices. I was told a whole bunch of different prices, ranging from $29K to $50K. As for the dates, they are meant to be on sale in June (that has been the most consistent date thrown around).
The Subaru though is meant to be more expensive than the Toyota. I put a deposit on the Toyota for $100. All I said was that it had to be white and manual. I can also get out at anytime, and if they do fudge me over, it's only $100. |
Honestly you would think the dealers would at least make attempts to keep up with the news on a car that will no doubt be center stage at dealerships around the country once it is actually released. I mean, we have an interest in these cars and know more than the people whose JOB it is to know about these cars.
40-45k drive away? No thanks. Sounds like a wild guess to me. |

Man it WILL be 40-45K. You'll have to take it or leave it. This is Australia. Not trying to have a go at you but this car will be marked up to around 40-45K. I have talked to Galleria toyota dealership in Morley and I have been told to expect the car to be around 40-45K. This is the same country that overcharges for all imports. Look at the 370Z. 77K my ass... And if you go for a BRZ be prepared to pay the same or a bit more. Is the 86/BRZ a 40-45k car? No. do we have a choice? No. |
Quote:
We do have a choice. The choice is to not buy it :P The WHOLE goal of the 86/BRZ was to make and sell a CHEAP sports car for the masses. I'm not the only one who considers anything over 40k to be failing to meet that CHEAP part of their stated goals. The 370Z is a complete and utter rip off here in Aus. If history repeats itself with the 86/BRZ I will be highly dissapointed but I will exercise that dissapointment by not buying the damn car. Hell, 45k would get you an 08/09 STI. |
It'll also get you an Evo 9 or 10, r34gtr or a lotus Elise. It's not a fair comparison, but it is something you need to realize. Money spent on a new car is money that is getting you less bang for buck.
|
Yup 45k sees me getting a new wrx...
349999+ on roads which should net under 40k drive away woll get me a white manual 86 |

a group of my friend bought 4 Jazz together and got very good deals. |

Until they can take an order on these things, they have no reason to be interested in them. |

I guess it would depend on the DP/Sales Manager at each individual dealership on what they would do in regards to any discounts whether it be for individuals or groups. |
Fair enough.
If u have any info to share, please do. |
I would dare say 10 committed buyers at 1 dealership will result in a good deal.
Any 1 care too start a possible group buy in Sydney/Newcastle area. Im in Newcastle but would gladly travel to Sydney for a the right price, otherwise ill wait. |

I'll join in! though i'm from south west Sydney and i'll do anything to get a cheaper price on the car. i got no clue in group buys, never bought a car from a dealer before. My car at the moment is from a private seller. =/ |

I'd like to share with you the global comparison pricelist for a 370z. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7PHH-9tLgz...Price-List.jpg after seeing the above table, u'd probably appreciate the price of a 370z in Australia :) |

It's easy for a dealer to put cars on trucks and send them 1,000km. They don't even blink at it. You guys should do a national group buy, $1,000 down to sort out the dreamers and go to the dealers with $20k deposit on 20 cars. |

:eyebulge::thumbsup::clap: Thanks WTF for your input and your proof of deposit. :respekt: I'll go wondering around Toyota dealers around my area on the weekends and see if they'll let me put some money down on it. I'm going after the same high end model and colour as you are, but in 6 speed Auto. I'm thinking the same thing, if the price is too high then i'll probably try BRZ if not then i'll look else where. my budget would be 45K anything over - no deal. |
Hey guys, my first post here...
I pre ordered mine last month with a $500 deposit. White, Manual. Today I got a call from the dealer asking me to pop down and discuss the 'options pack'. The base model is estimated to be $39,990. The High Spec model is an unknown extra amount. It includes Leather/Alcantra inserts Three Spoke Steering wheel Sat Nav Stereo system HID Headlights LED Daytime running lights (I can only assume this means the base model does not get these) Different 17in alloys Frameless rear vision mirror There was a few other things, but nothing particularly memorable. They speculated the price difference for the high spec model could be between $5,000-$10,000 more than the $39,900 base price, which better not be the case as that brings the car into some serious trouble with other competitors, and beyond where I would have hoped the vehicle would be priced. I did make my pre-order the high-spec model, but the final decision depends on the final pricing of the entire car. If it hits $50,000 I don't think I can honestly justify that kind of price. http://firesport.com/cars/ft86/contract.jpg |

sorry i deleted and edited my post so now its below yours :P Yeah I think $45k should be the ceiling, even for the high spec model.. $50-$55k is getting into STi Territory (which I dont want), but my whole purpose of buying this car is because at the reasonable pricing it will be popular amongst the audience of my company. It would be a shame if they push for the extra dollars and miss the whole point of the car. |

Yeah, i was just looking at your Facebook, was just curious if you guys showed up at Auto Salon over the years, not sure, but if i remember clearly. Did you guys put up a car for the Dyno challenge? |
Many thanks for that info.
My deposit is for an 86 White, Auto but I have yet to hear anything from the dealer re options. |

I havent been to an Autosalon since maybe 2004 or so. Which was before I started Streetfx.com.au - back then was trading as Firesport.com Also just remembered the high spec has a frameless rear vision mirror.. (added to my above post). Anyways, I have to say if the car nudges $50k on road I think I will be forced to pull out.. While I am a Toyota advocate, that kind of dollars is far too steep, especially considering the Hyundai Genesis coupe which is Front engine, RWD, and available with a 345hp V6 - for nearly half the price, hits the target market perfectly.. http://machinespider.com/wp-content/...is-Coupe-3.jpg Not that I am a Hyundai fan, and would probably never buy one, but the numbers at half the price almost make the 86 seem a silly idea. |

But as to what "WTF" was saying, i was thinking along the same road. If the 86 is priced ridiculously high, then i'll wait and see what the Genesis has to offer. Not only that, it also have more grunt and looks very sleek from the photo WTF posted above. Never had a Korean car before, the good thing is my cousin works in Ford and KIA (which is pretty much Hyundai, they use the same engine). |
The current Genesis doesn't have RHD and will never be available here but they are designing the next one with RHD. wont be out until 2014 at least tho (Genesis facelift was only released recently).

its also up to 300KG heavier than the FR-S, wont have the low CoG and poorer weight distribution. where are you getting your price info from for it? I doubt you are going to get a V6 or I4T coupe for under 40k in australia.. |

How about you,JDM-20L? |

Ah I thought you had one down as I following WTF's comments... (has pre order down and sounds like they've called him to go in and confirm it) I just done mine through Sydney City... if you are serious and want to get it done without wasting your time just go straight there. FYI I'm signed on $38k + ORC They have not called me though to come and finalise the order.. |

Looking at Sydney City Toyota website, is it the one in Glebe or Waterloo? |
